This is an AM/FM mono portable radio. It comes with a six-foot power cord, no other accessories. It has a carrying handle, an extendable antenna and a 3.5 mm earphone jack.
The speaker is 4 inches and produces good sound. It's clear, doesn't sound tinny, and can be played fairly loudly without distortion. The earphone jack is mono, I only got sound out of the left side of my gaming headphones. I don't know if less sophisticated earphones would get sound out of both sides, I don't have a pair to test.
Reception is decent with the antenna extended. The antenna can only be moved in a 180-degree plane from left to right. It doesn't rotate so you sometimes have to move the position of the radio to pick up a station you're looking for. It has I guess what I'd call a tuning LED that illuminates bright red when the radio picks up a strong station signal.
The radio can also be operated on 4 AA batteries, which are not included. That makes it good for the beach or a picnic, or for emergency operation for news.
This is a nice radio for a kitchen or workshop, which is what I got it for. The material quality seems pretty decent. If you like to have background music or talk radio to listen to while working around the home or garage, you can't go wrong with this radio for its price.

Better than I thought

I have to admit this little radio is A LOT better than I initially thought it could possibly be. It was originally purchased as a backup/emergency radio for if/when the power goes out. (I mean why else buy an AM/FM radio these days right?) In addition, there is a house in our neighborhood each year that does a Christmas light show and plays the music on an FM station I can't pick up on my phone...guess who's bringing this radio with him this holiday season!?!?
We actually still have an old AM/FM cassette player from the 1980s that still works. But what is interesting is that, despite the size difference in both the unit and the antenna, (this one is much smaller) the stations come in much clearer on this one than on the one with a 3 foot long antenna.
Long story short, if you're like me and you inexplicably find yourself in the market for a good old-fashioned AM/FM radio, you probably can't or won't go wrong with this one.
So congratulations, your search is over...now get out there and let's dance!

I'm all about retro-ish style things, being sorta 'old school' myself. So, I was really interested in getting this Panasonic AM/FM Radio to experience a little bit of nostalgia. But also, as it's a good idea to have a radio "on hand" just in case of emergency (when WiFi, internet, or cell service might fail).
It's a pretty straightforward process on how to operate this radio. Nothing fancy here. You, of course, can adjust the antenna and position of the radio itself, for increased (better) reception.
Sound coming from the speaker is what you would expect. Not at all scratchy or tinny, and the volume is good enough. There's even a 3.5mm jack if you want to use earphones.
The option to use the AC power cord or 4 AA batteries, is nice. This radio is lightweight and handily portable, which is great for taking hiking or camping, or keeping it tucked away in the car.
If I were to consider anything to be a "Con" it would be that the power cord doesn't plug-in all the way; this just looks 'wrong' somehow.
The Panasonic brand has been around for a long time, and I've owned many of their electronics over the years.
This Panasonic AM/FM 2-Band Receiver is inexpensive, of average quality, and does the job it's designed for.

The Panasonic RF-2400D is a basic no frills, portable FM-AM receiver, aka "radio". In the box, you will receive a neatly and securely packaged Panasonic RF-2400D, instruction manual, and power cord. This particular model comes in silver and can operate in either AC or battery modes. Set up as quick and easy just plug it in using the included power cable or at four AA batteries. The telescopic antenna only hinges 180 degrees, so do not try to rotate 360 degrees and snap off your antenna.
Indoors, it can be plugged into the wall using the included power cord or go portable on 4 "AA" batteries (NOT INCLUDED). It's excellent for your emergency kit or camping gear for any outdoors lover or storm survivor. The body is all plastic; everything feels like a plastic radio in this price range should. The wobbly switches and dials feel to flexible and cheap. It has a very traditional analog radio interface - nostalgic of the 80s-'90s. One knob dials in frequency vertically oriented on a glow-in-the-dark AM/FM tuner spanning FM:87-108MHz and AM:502-1710kHz.
The single full range speaker measures 4in or 10cm, and gets the job done with plenty of volume. This radio is not for sound quality - evident by the mono speaker selection. However, it is more than serviceable in volume and clarity. There are two ways to listen: using the single internal speaker or plugging in a 3.5mm 1/8" earphone of your choice for listening in private, not to wake others, or during times of silence. Battery life is roughly 52-55hrs using 4 - alkaline (LR6/R6) batteries. If you use Manganese (R6) batteries, you can expect much less battery life at around 20 hours. There is a battery drain in standby mode, which drains at roughly 0.4W.
Things to know:
-The glow-in-the-dark could be more effective and bright. No numbers visible either.
-The telescopic antenna only hinges 180 degrees.
-There isn't a way to know the remaining battery, so just keep a set of batteries handy.
-An added backlight may be more useful than glow-in-the-dark plastic provided.
-Do NOT use this plugged-in and leave your batteries inside. Battery operation should only be done without the AC power cord.
The Verdict:
This radio will definitely get the job done if you are just looking to hear some tunes or catch the news during an emergency or while out at the beach. This is nothing to write home about concerning sound quality you get what you pay for. I can recommend this to anyone who is looking for a basic radio.

An Excellent Choice For A Simple AM-FM Radio

I received this product from Panasonic in order to test and review it. As I haven't had an AM-FM portable radio to use in a long while, I looked forward to receiving the silver/gray Panasonic Model RF-2400D 2-band receiver!
The Panasonic RF-2400D arrived securely packaged in a Panasonic labelled box in perfect condition with no shipping or other damage. Unboxing the radio, I discovered it came with an AC cable for plug-in use and an Owner's Manual. The radio can be operated in portable mode using four (4) AA batteries (not included.)
To use the radio, turn it on and position the sliding band selector from off to either AM or FM band. Tune in a station and an indicator turns red when the slider is solidly on the station. To tune a station simply turn the tuner knob forward or backward. A volume adjuster knob is located on the right side of the radio. To turn the radio off, slide the band selector to off and the Off indicator turns orange.
The Panasonic AM-FM radio also has an antenna mounted atop the radio to aid in reception of weaker stations. Pull out the telescopic antenna and adjust its length and angle for optimum reception. The unit also has a ferrite antenna built in. For best reception yusing the ferrite antenna just move the radio around. There is also a moveable carrying handle mounted atop the radio. It has a notch mid-handle for hanging/securing on a nail, screw or other holder.
An 3.5mm earphone jack is also included for monaural use (no headphone or earbud is included.)
Battery life is indicated to be approximately 52 hours for FM use and 55 hours receiving AM stations. The Panasonic RF-2400D weighs 1 pound 8.3 ounces without batteries.
The sound from the single speaker is quite good and the speaker is the largest part of the unit's size. I was very pleased with the quality of sound output by the speaker.

A portable radio in 2024? It still has its place!

Some people are going to ask the question as to the need of having a portable AM / FM radio in 2024, when Cell Phones provide you the same plus much more. Let me tell you, that this portable radio sure has a place and for $30 it is not only worth every penny but should be a staple for anyone who listens to the radio and does not want to kill their phone battery. Let me begin by saying the 4" speakers on this are really good and sound while outside is not a problem at all. I really love how this can be powdered by AC power or 4 AA batteries. I am likely going to use this with the batteries with the intended purpose for outdoor use. My experience so far has been using this outside for relaxation and it has been nice to listen to local sports radio, news and music. Reception has been fantastic and transitioning between AM / FM is simple, as well as dial adjustment for finding the correct station. I am planning on using this radio every Sunday for football tailgates (to listen to pregame radio), camping and regular outdoor use to listen to music and regular radio.
One thing I really would love to see if Panasonic ever upgrades this device, is to fully eliminate the battery feature. If Panasonic can put a USB-C rechargeable battery in this with a 6-10 hour battery life then I think this would be absolutely perfect.
This certainly still has its place and will continue to do so. If you are someone who does not want to kill your cell phone battery and would like a radio, then this is perfect for you.

Great emergency radio, surprisingly good sound

I have a lot of nostalgia for radios like this Panasonic AM/FM portable radio. My Grandpa had a radio like this and I remember him listening to horse races on it back in the day. My interest and need for this Panasonic portable radio comes from something else - where I live has regular power outages from storms and staying informed of what was going is better with a radio with a long last battery vs using up my phone. The Panasonic AM/FM radio is both AC and battery powered (4 x AA batteries, not included - wish they were, oh well). Setup is easy enough, plug the radio in, extend the antenna, and tune the radio. It's an analog tuner, so it took me a few seconds to find my favorite station - too use to digital tuners and not knowing the frequency anymore haha). I do wish it had a true numeric digital tuner with presets, but then you would lose the retro feel and look. Audio quality is surprisingly good, the speaker is large, clear and the side volume control smooth. Yes, it's not audiophile quality and it's all about does it meet expectations for a portable radio, yes and more. There's a side mounted headphone jack, not sure I would use this and tbh, if I wanted to listen privately I'd probably look for something a lot smaller. But it's there if you need it. The carry handle feels sturdy, you just need to be mindful of opening and closing it if the antenna is up.
Things that could be a little better - the AC power cord connects via the left side, so it doesn't look neat and tidy (you can't hide the cord), wish it was a rear mounted AC plug. The power on/off switch orange marker was a little offset on mine so the orange "on" marker doesn't align perfectly.
Overall, very happy with it - great emergency radio, portable radio for when I'm doing yard work over the summer, and everyone should have one.

Nice Little Radio at a Fair Price

I got my Panasonic RF-2400D AM/FM radio a few days ago and I have already been able to enjoy it on a few occasions. When I’m outside or in the garage working I usually prefer a ball game or sports talk to music. My old portable radio was long since dead and for some reason I had been putting off getting a replacement. The same evening my new radio arrived I put on a baseball game as it took me back to my youth when this was how I consumed most sports content. But it’s not all just nostalgia, it sounds pretty good too.
The device is fairly small and very light. It’s a little better than I expected at picking up the signal. The dial is easy to use to change stations. Obviously a radio like this isn’t going to blow anyone away in sound quality but it’s not bad and it can go fairly loud as well. Though I will rarely use this for FM radio, it sounds fine. I don’t live near a city so FM stations are just harder to get where I’m at, but I was certainly satisfied on the stations I found. All in all I would say this is a solid product at a fair price. Very happy with its performance and I would absolutely recommend it to a friend.

The Panasonic RF-24000D Portable AM/FM Radio is definitely a throw-back to simpler times! It's an AM/FM radio with a speaker and an antenna. No USB cords or chargers. Can't get much simpler than that.
However, this one sounds great! The 10 centimeter (almost 4") full-range speaker produces a crisp, clear sound. At about 1.5 pounds, it's lightweight and has a built-in carrying handle. making it easy to take anywhere. Runs on 4-AA batteries for a truly portable experience, or plug it in with the included AC cord.
The digital tuner provides a larger tuning area than traditional analog tuners, and it pulls in a clean signal (depending on area) using the built-in telescopic antenna There's even a headphone jack for private listening.
The controls are simple - there's a tuning dial with a fluorescent orange pointer and glowing panel allows for easy viewing even in the dark, and a volume adjustment knob.
The silver color is reminiscent of radios/boomboxes of the 80's but it sounds soooo much better!
Definitely a retro-look but a fun radio to have around when AM/FM is all you're really looking for.
