If you love Payback you’ll find the director’s original vision of the story significantly DIFFERENT from the theatrical cut but interesting nonetheless! Make no mistake the theatrical cut is BETTER, but this version allows you to enjoy Payback all over again and the special features are enlightening too! I don’t know if both the director’s cut and theatrical cut are available on ONE disc or in one set but if not it’s a GREAT suggestion. Enjoy, Payback fans!

A good movie from the later years of Mel Gibson. The plot moves quickly enough and has just enough dark humor to keep me laughing.

not a bad movie, but I really missed hearing Porter (Gibson's Character) go into detail about his thoughts using the classic film noir style that was used in the theatrical version. This movie is closer to how the director had originally written it, and as such is still a decent film about revenge and leverage.

I enjoyed the original theatrical Payback and was surprised to find the I liked this director's cut even more.

The director's cut is way better than the original version

Brian Helgeland's director's cut of "Payback" offers viewers almost a completely different movie. It's bleaker than the theatrical release which makes it more in tune with the late '60s, early '70s crime films. It's similar in plot, but it contains a completely different third act which, according to the bonus features, the studios and test audiences didn't care for. It's definitely worth a look, but it's not as fun as the theatrical cut.

This version of the movie is what the Director wanted to portray the movie as and compared to the Theatrical version it is not as good and I can see why it did not test well. The Theatrical version is better by far and that is the one you should get.
