Bought this as a present for my sister-in law who loves English literature. Didn't know too much about the show or the stories they were based on but I was hooked after a few episodes. Definitely fun watching it with her pointing out the histories of the characters portrayed.

Many people are familiar with classic literary characters like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. "Penny Dreadful" brings those and other characters into a new light by exploring their origin stories in this psychological thriller that takes place in the dark corners of Victorian London. Very good plot and highly watchable!

The first season of "Penny Dreadful" is absolutely fabulous. I have loved watching every minute of this Showtime series. Eva Green and Timothy Dalton are outstanding in this Victorian London drama. I highly recommend this series and cannot wait to see season two.

I'm happy that they made this series where else can you see all your childhood monsters come to life in this wonderful story. I give it two thumbs up, if you like werewolf and Frankenstein all of those childhood monsters you would love this series.

I refuse to pay outrageous cable prices so most shows I buy on DVD! This show did not fail it was a great story with great plot. Can't wait for season 2

Great purchase, tasteful horror series. A bit heavy on the graphic scenes, but this IS a showtime series. Great additional special features, but I am partial to deleted/extra scenes and footage, which this didn't. But overall, a good purchase!

Didn't know what I was in for, but this is highly entertaining. Won't give away some of the characters you will see, have to see for yourself. The lovely Eva Green who has been pretty busy lately, is definitely the star of the show.

This feels like what the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen should have been. There's a great atmosphere on the show and it's very well acted. A few of the flashbacks can get somewhat tedious but overall a great start to a show.

I have definitely fallen in love with this series and it should definitely be checked out by any person who is a fan of the supernatural or the horror genre. This edition is also really good too and comes with lots of features.

Such a fantastic way to put different classic monster stories into a cohesive and intriguing story line that grabs your imagination, So happy that I found this show. Definitely one I can and will watch over and over.

Even the monsters have a character flaw. Great overall development you,lol find youself loving and loathing each! Great writing; not too cerebral but enough to catch yourself thinking about something just said or seen.

This series is an exciting new telling of the story's of old horror story characters, keeps a very good pace throughout the season and never looses your interest. We don't see that very often in most shows on tv.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first season. Can't wait for the second season to start. Liked how they brought all the various monsters into the series [Frankenstein, Varmpires and Werewolves along with Dorian Gray.

If you haven't watched Penny Dreadful, I suggest you pick up the first season and try it. Innovative writing and weaving together of various horror staples of 1800s England such as Frankenstein and Dracula.

Interesting drama set in 1890's London with some very famous characters present, such as Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray .Also has vampires, werewolves, etc.

Bought this season for my boyfriend for father's day. It was better than I expected. The show is about vampires, werewolves, and other classic monsters. If you like that kind of stuff, then you will like this show. The quality of the blu ray is also very good.

this show has great characters great storyline and and special effects you really get taken in from the first episode if you are a fan of horror and supernatural you will like this show highly recommended

What a unique concept for a show. It reminds me a lot of "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" except it's well done. The characters develop quickly enough to keep you interested, but gradually enough to be real and to keep you wondering about the next twist.

I really love this series. It has gorgeous costume and set design. The story line is excellent and the weaving of the various Victorian characters is fascinating. If you are a fan of Shelly or Stoker, you should check this out.

I bought this as a Christmas gift so have not seen it yet. My Husband and I have watched this series on Showtime over & over again we just love it. Sorry it ended after 3 seasons.
