Great Live Versions of Pet Sounds Classics

If you already own the Pet Sounds Box Set or the previously released Stereo/Mono CD version of this great album you will not be hearing anything new in regards to CD1; however, CD2 is the real reason to buy this set if you already own the aforementioned releases. On CD2 you get the original backing instrumentals of the entire Pet Sounds album minus the vocals and newly released live versions of some songs off of the Pet Sounds album. The live releases are the real gems of CD2. It is great to hear this incredible and talented band perform live versions of these songs. Most interesting is comparing earlier live versions of the songs to later versions of these same songs and the improvements the band made in these subsequent performances. It is also comical to hear Mike Love's mostly lackluster comments to the audience (some of them are actually OK) but on a few the band just starts to play to basically stop him from talking! I can't give this 5 stars since the liner notes are lacking in regards to details on the players of the live venues.

    Creativity at its best

Pet Sounds passed the 50-year mark since its release in 1966. Borne out of Brian Wilson’s inability to tour with the rest of the band, “Pet Sounds” was meticulously arranged by Wilson Himself. Conceived by Wilson as an attempt to create a cohesive work of art, “Pet Sounds” is an early concept album. The themes of love, both lost and found, and struggling to relate to the world are found consistently throughout the record. It's creativity at its best.

One of the best rock albums of all time. (I was not particularly enamored when it was first released in the '60s, but have since realized how great it is.) I already owned the 1990 edition of this CD. The sound quality on this re-master is excellent -- far superior. And the stereo versions of all the original tracks are superb. Kudos to Mark Linett. Do not hesitate -- buy it.

This is the third of fourth time the stereo remix of Pet Sounds has been reissued since the record's 30th anniversary. This release has a bright, clear finish to the overall sound and comes with a good selection of bonus tracks, some of which have been available for years, and some of which are collected for the first time on this CD.

I appreciate the availability of Best Buy exclusives and check to see what new ones are offered periodically. This classic Beach Boys album came with a free mail-in offer that was filled within a week of my sending it in. Thank you for these special offerings which only become more collectible as time goes by. Keep it up!

In a nutshell, Brian Wilson is the Mozart of our time. This cd also includes the instrumental tracks separately, as well as mono and stereo versions. In my opinion, two songs..."Good Vibrations" and "God Only Knows" are two of the best songs ever written by Brian Wilson.

Outstanding album. Possibly the best pop album ever. Remaster is done well. An improvement over the Pet Sounds Sessions box set, if you have that from the 90's. A little pricey for an album of this age, that has been released multiple times in multiple packages.

I bought this from BestBuy because they have an exclusive offer of a bonus collectible 7" single record on yellow vinyl. The CD includes a card with a code; I entered it online and received my record in the mail in less than a week. Very pleased!

Still holds up and inspires after 50 yrs. Disc 2 featuring background instrumentals for each song by the Wrecking Crew is a delight on its own. Also new to cd versions of this record are the names of Wrecking Crew musicians by track. Very cool.

When you listen to Pet Sounds, you can almost hear Lennon and McCartney saying "this is good". This was the the driving force for Sgt. pepper. Brian Wilson at his best. The bonus disc is especially nice with the live and alternate versions. A+

Pet Sounds is a classic and holds up well today so many years after it was released. The songs are timeless. The release of "an instrumental only" CD in the package is terrific and makes purchasing this worthwhile.

One of the best albums of all time. With both mono and stereo versions a must have for any Beach boys fans. The instrumental selections make it extra special. The free 45 arrived way ahead of schedule.

An excellent release of arguably the Beach Boy's best album. Two CD's - mono versions, stereo versions, instrumental versions, and some live versions. I think they all sound great.

Don't buy the edition, 7" is no longer available

I can't say a bad thing about Pet Sounds and the 50th anniversary edition is great, but this edition is useless. Best Buy offers the same 50th Anniversary edition for $16.99, $5 less than the "Limited Collectors 7"" edition so buy the standard double CD (or the expansive boxed set). The package doesn't say it on the outside advert for the 7" but the offer expired at the end of 2016, this information is only on the card inside the cover with the online code. Buying this edition gets you a cover ad and unusable redemption card for your extra $5, and nothing more. Beware.

One of the keystone records of the 60s. Although songs on the second disc are redundant, it still is nice to hear how they played some of these songs live.
