Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the Philips Barista Brew's milk frother for its ability to create silky microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos. They also appreciate the machine's sleek and compact design that fits well in their kitchens. While many find the machine easy to use and convenient, some express frustration with the grinder, as even the finest setting doesn't produce fine enough grounds for espresso.

A Solid Espresso Machine with some flaws

I am someone who absolutely loves coffee. I have been making Lattes daily since 2020 and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. In fact, I am always looking for the next best espresso machine to craft the perfect latte. Now comes along the Philips Barista Brew, an all in one espresso machine that does produce good quality espresso. However, that is not to say this is a machine without it's flaws which I will address. But first, let's start off with the positives about the machine. PROS: - The automatic dosing of grinded beans is pretty accurate. I also love that you are able to adjust the grind amount with the knob to fine tune the amount of grounds you need to tamp. This is nice when you are dealing with different types of beans as they all grind differently. - The included tamper is very nice. With the spring loaded tamping, it makes tamping a breeze. - Water reservoir is massive which is great because now I do not have to fill up the water tank every week, it is so large, I can do it every 2 weeks. - The milk frother and the milk frother cup are incredible. Really it is the cup that is magical. The fact it changes colors to let you know when the ideal temperature has been reached for your milk is a game changer and allows you to constantly create creamy frothy lattes. - The aesthetic and design of the machine is sleek and modern and the portafilter is very nice. CONS - The bean grinder is pretty messy, no matter what type of bean I use. Whether it be a Starbucks reserve blend or a single origin Guatemalan from my local coffee roaster, the grinder will spew tiny coffee dust all around the machine, even WITH the portafilter cover they include (which is a cheap plastic that I do worry might break one day). If you don't use this cover, oh my, be ready for a MESS! Also, be warned, make sure the blade is properly aligned with the arrow as mine was not after unboxing and when I went to grind beans for the first time, nothing came out because it was jammed. Was annoying having to dig out beans because of that. Also, my bean grinder lid came broken and Philips has still yet to get back to me on replacing that. - Instructions lead you to a video which, was not that helpful in setup, it was too basic. - While the tamper is nice and heavy and spring loaded, it gets coffee grounds stuck in the edges around it and requires constant dusting and cleaning. It also can get coffee grounds everywhere. It would be nice if this system overall did a better job at keeping things tidy, if it had an auto tamping device like some other similar branded machines in this price range had, that would've made this a 5 star product. But overall, this is a great starter machine for someone who is either coming from an all in one machine, like the baristina, or even Nespresso. There is a slight learning curve, but after some fine tuning and testing, you can achieve the perfect espresso every morning (or night ;) )

After much debate, we finally gave in and treated our household to an espresso machine, hoping to really cut back on our coffee shop expenses as we develop our skills doing it ourselves at home. This Philips semi automatic espresso machine is an excellent unit to start with. And as we’ve done our research, we’ve learned that this unit is great not only for beginners but also experienced users as well because of all the features it has. Not only does the Philips Barista Brew elevate our coffee experience, but it also elevates the look of our kitchen! It is a beautiful unit that looks very sleek and sophisticated. There are some kitchen appliances that you decide not to purchase because they’re too large to store in a hidden place, and too ugly looking to leave permanently on the counter. Not this espresso machine, we proudly leave it out on display because it looks great. Philips also did an excellent job with packaging because all items were wrapped and protected well, and everything arrived safe with no scratches or scuffs. With this unit being considered semi automatic, I was a little nervous if it was more than we could handle as beginners, but fortunately the directions were helpful for the most part. And the straightforward and user friendly controls really helped us get the hang of this unit. We had built up our confidence within a few experiment cups. The ease of use and beautiful design would all be for nothing if the quality of the espresso it produces is no good. Fortunately though, this Barista Brew produces tasty and consistent espresso shots, leaving us shocked that we’re able to generate this kind of quality right from our own home. This machine is definitely versatile, as it also creates excellent different blends of coffee very well. A huge plus and bonus is the milk frother, allowing us to make perfect lattes and cappuccinos as well. This machine really does do it all and gives us so many choices when it comes to creating our morning and afternoon boosts of energy. And even post dinner with dessert, we can’t wait to have guests over and offer them a drink from this machine. Cleanup of this machine is not nearly as bad as we were expecting, many items are easy to remove and clean at the sink. And the self cleaning function is so appreciated as we can regularly decalcify the unit with no elbow grease or harsh chemicals. Overall this Barista Brew machine is a great addition to our home, and it will be great for many people looking to either upgrade their current machine, or get their first home espresso machine.

The Philips Barista Brew Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced coffee enthusiasts. I have given up on some espresso machines before solely due to the fact that I felt I needed to be a professional barista in order to use. This machine is semi-automatic, it’s designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible to those who may not have prior experience with espresso machines. With an intuitive interface and clear instructions in the manual, I was quickly up and running brewing the perfect shot of espresso. The included accessories, from the excellent tamper to the milk jug, provide everything you need right out of the box, making the setup and use process seamless. When it comes to performance, this machine truly shines. The Philips Barista Brew pulls a fantastic shot of espresso with rich flavor and crema, making it comparable to what you’d get at a coffee shop. One of the most impressive, but simple, features is its heat-sensing milk jug, which takes the guesswork out of steaming milk to the perfect temperature for lattes and cappuccinos. In addition to its functionality, the machine boasts a sleek design that looks great on any countertop, and its relatively compact size makes it suitable for most kitchens without taking up too much space. The only drawback is a slight learning curve, especially for those new to espresso machines. However, thanks to the well-written and thorough instruction manual, this hurdle is easily overcome with a bit of practice. The manual walked me through what I was doing wrong and I got the hang of it fast! Overall, the Philips Barista Brew Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to elevate their at-home coffee experience. Like I said in the beginning, I’ve gotten rid of espresso machines before. This one I am for sure keeping. Pros: Easy to use Pulls a fantastic shot of espresso Heat-sensing milk jug! Looks great on a counter Relatively compact All the accessories you need An instructions manual that actually explained how to use the machine properly! Cons: Little bit of a learning curve but not bad due to the excellent manual

    Instructions Unclear Among Other Things

Just as disclaimer, I have never owned an espresso machine as complex as this one. As someone who is new to the process, this was very intimidating. At the end of the day, I was able to figure it out and understand the process more thoroughly, but it took a lot of trial and error and patience to get me there. The instructions were not clear. It took a while to realize that the figures the instructions were referring to were at the end of the booklet, passed the alternate languages versions, so for the longest time, I thought the instructions were incomplete. Luckily I was able to find instructional videos on YouTube to help guide me. As for the machine itself, the grinder has 15 settings, but even the finest setting does not get the grounds fine enough for espresso. I had to get store bought espresso that was already ground to make a drink that was not bitter. The steam wand works but it stops after a certain amount of time, which was not enough time to get milk to the appropriate temperature for a latte. Because of this, I had to run it twice. Overall, I was able to figure it out, but I do not think it should have been this difficult. It would be nice if the instructions were clearer for those of us that have never had this type of machine before. But it does work and I think it works well once you get the hang of it.
