I had been thinking about buying the starter kit for a while and finally took the plunge and went deep. We bought these bulbs in addition to the starter kit on Black Friday and ended up buying even more bulbs on Cyber Monday. It is super fun changing the bulb colors for different parts of the house. I never knew something so simple could bring so much joy. Setting it up took a while and required some research on YouTube. It seems to work best with Siri, using Apple HomeKit (that home icon that comes with the iOS update) than with Amazon Alexa. I think there are still some kinks to be addressed, as I need to ask twice to change lights, but all in all, we are totally happy with these bulbs. Let's hope they last at least 3 years or so as they are pretty pricey bulbs.
I was skeptical of these when they first came out, but ever since I've gotten a room filled with them & discovered the magic that is IFTTT, it's just been nothing but fun. I admit these can be rather pricey, but if you happen to get them on sale, I recommend getting a couple & playing around with them. Having different triggers such as changing the colors if it starts to rain, or your team colors to celebrate a win, or telling Alexa "trigger party time" and having them change different colors.. They're silly, but fun. Even for simple tasks, such as "turn on when my alarm goes off," or on when I arrive home, off when I leave, things like that, are helpful & a nice change of pace you get used to enjoying.

I had a few of these lights I was using inside. They went on sale so I picked them to replace the exterior lights. I wanted to be able to change the color of the lights based on the time of the year. Also wanted to have them hooked up to my SmartThings hub so they would come on at Sunset and turn off at sunrise. It’s nice to be able to change the colors to show my support for the football team, or look festive. They say they are not for exterior use but I haven’t had any problems yet. The only issue I had was one light was having issues connecting to the hue hub so I had to turn the hub off for a bit then restart the hub. It worked better after that.

The hue bulbs are fantastic! The colors that they produce are beautiful. However, I am disappointed in how expensive they are when sold individually, especially given that the new starter packs include 4 bulbs and a bridge. Like most LED bulbs, I find the the quality of the light is different than traditional bulbs. I wish that they threw more lumens. However, they do perform as advertised. They are a highlight of our home decor.

I love the whole Phillips Hue family of products! I have connected my bulbs to my Google Home as well as downloaded the Hue App. The color bulbs are so fun and help set an entirely different mood than just white bulbs. I love that you can set the lights to wake you up, turn off automatically or set timers to make it seem like you're home, even when you're not! Highly recommend these bulbs!

Amazing light bulb! Can access so many colors and they give off beautiful light. Definitely pricey but wait until they go on sale. I got mine on Cyber Monday for only $27! $50 is way too much to spend on these full price. But definitely try one of these out. So much more exciting than a boring white bulb. Philips Hue is a solid system. You won't be disappointed.

Easy to install. Easy to change colors. Works with Google Home.

My biggest disappointment in the 1st gen Hue bulbs was their inability to produce green or cyan. Also, blue was more purple and was very dim. This has all been fixed in their latest bulbs. The colors are much more vibrant and true to what they are supposed to be. Whites are brighter as well. Now, the only real downside I see is their cost.

What can I say? We are getting spoiled with technology today. Before you buy these bulbs, you’ll need to buy a starter kit that includes a hue connecting hub, or buy a hub separately. Once everything is synced, the fun begins. I have a Google Home device and 4 Hue lights throughout the house. I like that you can control every light in a room at once (with Home or the Hue app) or individually. For example, my wife and I have two lights above our headboard in the bedroom. One light carries my name and the other my wife’s. My wife usually nods off before me so we turn hers off and dim mine to a nice 20%. I also like to set the living room light to a Hue that matches the mood of the tv show or movie we are watching. Watching Stranger Things? Set it to a deep red, of course. Seahawks game? Lime green. Google Home and the Hue app alone only take you so far. Download the IFTTT app and you can configure your lights to do a lot more. My lights now flash when it starts to rain. I yell, “Hey Google, Sea!” and she responds with “Hawks!” while turning the lights green. Good fun. Anyway, if you’re on the fence about buying them, just indulge. They are convenient, fun and easy.

Easy to setup. Once connected, can control your lights from your phone and display beautiful shades of color. There are even presets that work best with nighttime/Getting ready for bed, waking up, and tropical vacations. My favorite is Arctic Aurora, but sometimes in the morning I use Energize to help give me a boost to wake up.

I bought the regular bulb starter kit on Black Friday and decided to pick up one of these also given they were on sale. I put it in a cheap floor lamp and I was not all that impressed with it and almost returned it. I decided to try in a regular table lamp, with a shade and liked it much better. When I saw they were even cheaper on Cyber Monday I picked up another. SO this is what I have noticed makes the experience better.. These bulbs look great in lamps with a shade, preferably white, like the bedroom They work better in pairs- 2 bulbs in a room to evenly distribute light. Not as bright as the regular $15 bulbs- so these are better for ambiance or accent lighting, not the main light source in a room. I really like the color of the “nightlight” much better than the regular bulbs. Its fun to change the colors… but its not really useful..You would need a few to light up a room in color for a party.. Red seems to be the only color bright enough to reach across the whole room. Blue is the only other color that “looks good.” Most of the others seem to have a lot of “white” in them. I feel the 2 pack white ambiance for $50 is much better and practical than 1 of these for $50. The shades of white are worth the extra $10, not sure if colors are worth $25 on top of that. For roughly $30 sale price these are pretty cool and I am thinking about putting them in some funky Ikea lamps and replacing the ones in the bedroom with the white ambiance.

Color is better than last generation. It is easy to pair with Hue bridge. After firmware updated, light bulb worked great with other Hue light. I had Wink hub to integrate the Hue with other home automation device, motion sensor, dim switch etc. Alexa and Google home worked fine with this Hue light bulb.

I decided to give the Hues a try this black Friday and I am glad I did. Best Buy had a good deal on them and I bought the 4 bulb LED starter kit along with two colored ones. It was a breeze to install and Google Home integration was easy. The light itself is bright enough and I am pleased with my purchase

I was on the fence on the HUE system for some time but took the leap during the black Friday sales. Overall, very nice/easy set up. My kids love the colors. I haven't even hit on the bulk of the features (synch with music, play with the themes/scense) but have set up timers and love the Alexa integration.

I was not too anxious to pay as much as I did for this bulb however the way it operates is quite impressive! The setup was easy for both the smart phone app as well as getting it to operate by Alexa via the Echo and/or Echo Dot devices. Really neat the way you can select the color and brightness!

I will say that the price is a little steep but the ability and range of colors balances it out. With my HUE Hub already installed the setup was simple. It really can change the atmosphere and mood in a room! Just pray that I do not over use and wear it out sooner than its predicted life.

I bought this bulb during a Black Friday sale and it paired easily with my existing hue bulbs. The colors are great and I love that I can change the colors and scenes using Alexa. The Apple HomeKit integration is also easy to set up and works great. Highly recommended.

It's definitely a one of a kind experience and I love my hue color bulbs. So far, I have gotten 12 light bulbs and 4 strips and thinking about getting few more. Of course, these bulbs are expensive and that's what's holding me. I believe these bulbs are a bit overpriced for what they offer. When Hue will have some worthy competition in the market, the price will come down. My biggest complaint however is the brightness, the only time you'll enjoy the advertised 8000 lumens or so brightness is when your lights are on daylight mode. For larger rooms, the color bulbs don't emit a whole lot of brightness. In my main floor (living room, kitchen, dining) - I have setup majority of my lights and the effect is definitely worth the money I have spent. Be aware, this is going to get addictive and voice control via Google Home needs some work while Alexa seem to work better at controlling hue.

The difference between this third generation of bulbs and previous ones is SO CLEAR when looking at yellow and green colors specifically, but the difference is so noticeable. If you haven't invested yet, this is the way to go, although the price is pretty high...the payoff is worth it I think. If you are just looking to replace existing bulbs, I would look for a deal because the increased accuracy with a few colors isn't worth the full price in my opinion.
