The Philips Hue Security light is a great choice for those who need or want to see what’s going on outside weather they are home or not. Setup is very easy, just download the app, pair it with your phone, send out invites to family who you want to give access to and that’s about it! Mounting is super easy, just one screw (provided) then mount the camera to the super strong magnet. The first time I did this, it kind of caught me off guard. The magnet was so strong it basically sucked the camera out of my hands. Not even strong winds can move this. The battery is said to last about four month with average for 15-20 clips a day. less of course if you use it more, especially the live view. Recharging about 7 hours. The camera is ultra-clear in daylight and very good at night. The 2 way voice is a nice addition. If you see something going on you can turn the alarm on with flashing lights and a siren to ward off intruders. In the settings you can set up an emergency contact that will be notified at your choice or even a service (extra cost) to notify police or the like. I like the fact that the camera is great quality, the app is easy to use, the build quality is very nice, the wide angle lens lets you cover a lot of area, everything you need is included, and end to end encryption of the video. Things I don’t like, not many but the fact you have to pay for a service to save videos is the going thing but I would at least like to have 24 hrs of local storage, because if you are notified of an event, by the time you view it live, most likely it is over. The only way to see what it was is to check the stored event, only available with a fee per year. This isn’t a game stopper, but disappointing. I will however recommend this to family and friends.

    Excellent portable easily positioned surveillance

The Philips Hue Battery Security Camera is a well built aesthetically designed multi-featured rechargeable battery powered surveillance device, alas, most all of its features are tied to the user purchasing a subscription, and owning other Philips Hue products. The camera works beautifully as an integrated system that synchronizes with the Philips Hue Bridge (must be purchased separately) and thereby works in conjunction with other Philips products such as lights and security sensors. The camera mount is well designed and has the most powerful magnet I have ever encountered on any security device. It works extremely well and makes positioning very easy. Unfortunately, the magnet is so strong that Philips warns users with implanted medical devices such as a pacemaker to make sure the camera is positioned a safe distance away. I have an implanted pacemaker, cardiac mitral valve clip, and a cardiac stent. If I had not read the package instructions, I would not have been aware of the potential danger. The camera is attractive and sleek rather than boxy. The Philips Hue application is easy to install and use. The app guards user privacy by encrypting all camera data from camera to phone, tablet, or computer. A 12 word decryption phrase was provided to access the encrypted data if needed. I own 3 surveillance cameras from other manufacturers and none provide that level of security. The app allows zones to be set for detection specified alerts. The app distinguishes between people, packages, animals, autos within a zone. The alerts work extremely well providing 2 way conversation, if desired, and clear bright high quality 1080P video. The night video/alert works well. I enjoy having my interior Philips Hue lights turn on and flash when the camera alerts. The cable used to provide charging is proprietary, attaches firmly to the camera's rechargeable battery. This camera may be used indoors or outdoors as it has been built with outdoor exposure in mind. I like the camera, and how well it works with my Philip Hue lights. Caution: Without a Phillips Hue subscription, video will stream, but is not stored. Camera detection which distinguishes between people, animals, packages, cars is not provided. I was a Philips Hue subscriber before setting up the camera, hence I enjoy all features and appreciate 60 days of video event storage.

The Philips Hue Security Camera is very high quality and does a good job with its video quality, its just let down by its software. Overall the camera has good video and works as intended which is a good thing, its software is the thing that is the big letdown and setting it up is not as intuitive as you would think. It does have excellent battery life if you are using it correctly which is a bit different than the competitors, but its differences does offer something a bit unique compared to the others. Let me start with the setup, unboxing the camera there is not much in the box a charging cable, the camera, the mount and some paperwork. Downloading the app and getting the camera all setup was a breeze took about 10 minutes. understanding the app took a little bit more time the camera has essentially two settings there is the armed setting which you get two armed options home and away, these armed options are what allow you to get notifications of movement it can also sound a siren or turn any connected Philips lights on if needed. The other setting is technically just called unarmed and your camera is basically in sleep mode, you can turn on your camera to take a look at it but you will not get any notifications from the camera in this mode. My Camera is setup on the back door of my house, so naturally I would want it armed all the time, not much movement happens in the back of my house so it should not go off all the time but the battery drains much faster wen it is armed. I dropped a good amount of battery in just 24 hours leaving it armed. and realized that I would have to unarm it during the day and arm it at night because the battery was draining faster than i would like. the battery is not removable so i have to remove the camera from the mount to charge, which is a bit inconvenient as I have to remove charge the take the time to re adjust camera to get correct angle again. The camera works really well once its armed and ready to go. Its very fast as I tested it out notifications came very quick I even tested it out of my house and got notifications pretty quickly. overall the camera is very good the video quality is outstanding and performance so far has been excellent. I think if Philips can tighten up the software this would be a 5 star camera all day.

I have multiple lights from the Phillips Hue line in my house. I absolutely love the how easy they are to add and how they can all be controlled by one page in the app. This camera adds right to your home page that controls your lights if you set it up in the app. So if at anytime you wanna check your camera or arm or disarm it, only a few taps and you're done. My favorite feature is once you arm it, if it is set off or triggered the camera itself has a siren that goes off, but most importantly your entire Hue light system flashes to the brightest setting on and off! Not as fast a strobe light but the same effect. So if someone breaks in and you're inside there's no way you wouldn't be notified, if you have bulbs and lights from their Hue line installed. It was simple to add to the app, I plugged the camera in to get a full 100% charge before installing. The camera is not cheaply made. It has weight to it unlike a lot of other cameras I've had prior. It comes with this 50 cent piece sized magnetic connector mounting piece that screws into the wall. I thought I was missing a part because of the cameras size and weight and how laughably small the other piece was, until I put them together and the connection was STRONG lol. It allows you to swivel because of the round end and concave mounting piece it fits down in. Overall I'm very happy with this camera and would highly recommend it to others

I've been using this camera now for about a month and I have to say I really like it. I like that. It doesn't need a base station to work like some of the other newer cameras out there as well. This seems to be where the space is going. Everything is self contained in the camera and controlled by Phillip's Hue app. The picture is very clear and very similar to some of the other brands i've tried. Night vision is theirs well and it works. I don't especially like the long can design as I feel it's too big for what it is. The smaller the better when it comes to these cameras, as far as i'm concerned. I understand that there needs to be room for the battery and this battery lasts a fairly long time too. In fact, I haven't been able to kill it completely in my testing. I suspect it will last over three months over my usage before I need to charge. Set up is a breeze and I was done in 5 minutes. The build quality looks like it would last outside for a good while and I would have no reservation, leaving it outside long term. Eliminating the need for a base station opens up new uses for these type of cameras.

I wonder if it's just me, or if technology is moving very quickly and abruptly. Normally, I wouldn't brag about every purchase I make, but this video camera is the greatest one to date. Its amazing mobility and functionality and meets my demands well. It's infrared black and white with exceptional daylight color HD resolution. is only topped, almost as good as military-grade infrared cameras equipped with defeater chips. Although it's not high-end stereo subwoofer sound, the audio does the job more than satisfactorily. The integrated speaker and microphone are useful when you have guests or need to ignore riffraff. The magnetic mound installs into a wall and adds a strong magnet to secure your camera so you may change the view angle to your liking. The camera claims a three-month battery life on a single charge. When there's a good breeze, the bushes move, which activates this camera's motion sensors. I've therefore already seen a 35% reduction in power in just one week, pushing it to nearly a month. My front door's older smart light is also at blame for this. You are free to modify these settings as you see fit. You can receive alerts and notifications with a modest subscription. I'm assuming that the device has typical smart device features like cloud storage for video clips and other functions. Note that you could turn on any lights and mood devices in your house, including cameras, provided you have a Phillips hub controller. It's possible that additional controllers from unusual, little businesses like Google and Alexa won't function. If you want to get serious about Phillips, I highly recommend purchasing a hub. Even without a hub, it functions as an independent camera, even if you don't have a subscription. Smaller manufacturer devices, albeit constructed well, are still being embraced by the newest smart home hubs. One of the many areas where technology is developing swiftly is smart homes with camera support. This camera would have been quite expensive not so long ago, but like many other smart cameras for home security, its price has now decreased. If their 12"+/- b/w TV is any indication, it will last forever if you enjoy classic television shows like The Twilight Zone and The Honeymooner. Given a brand like Phillips, I would say that approximately 25 years of watching a black-and-white Phillips TV and an additional 25 years of my parents watching the same TV show classic American know-how. This camera seems to follow the same guidelines. If I knew how to transfer the photos from this camera to my new laptop, I would have added them.

The Philips Hue Battery Security Camera is a product that has great potential, but is constrained by few limiting factors that make it not the best choice. After using the camera as my main outdoor security device, I had to relegate it to as a backup. Here’s my experience with it so far: The good: - Very attractive design - Magnetic mount makes it a snap to install it and take it down when charging is needed. Installing it on the outdoor wall was a 5 minute job with almost no special tool required (except maybe a ladder and a screwdriver) - Video quality is top notch - even though not 4k it’s crisp and clear, with good saturation and white balance out of the box - Alert settings are fast and pretty accurate in detecting things - Notification came in without much delay - 2-way talk function works well - Even though battery powered and the overall package is small, Philips was able to put in a usable light. Even though it won’t replace a flood-light, but still offers a good option - The Hue app is nicely designed with no gimmicks. Functions are easy to find and settings are laid out in a user friendly manner. I haven’t faced any stability issue so far - Having a Hue ecosystem, even though not a requirement, adds so much functionality in terms of automation. It connects to the Hue bridge (most possible via Zigbee) easily and integrates well with outdoor lighting and other components The bad: - No local storage - Subscription needed to get a better experience. Without local storage, I won’t use this as my main security cam without a subscription. Even then only 30 days storage duration seems a bit inadequate in this day and age. As such, I had to move it to another portion of the house where security needs are less important - Basic free plan only provides notification, not even small clip storage for later review - Losses a lot of functionality when WiFi is down for any reason - Not so great battery life compared to other solutions - Proprietary charging port, while looks cool, makes it a hassle. I wish Philips have opted for a more standard (USB-C) type connector (or provided some adapter). Weatherproofing a connector for an outdoor cam is surely an engineering challenge, but others have found some solutions - Haven’t found any compatibility to Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Homekit yet - which is a major omission - For the price, I think the value proposition is not the best out there. This is especially true if you are not tied to only the Hue ecosystem

Poor decisions greatly impact what could've been.

I should preface this review by stating that I've been a Philips Hue owner/user for over a decade, so I was excited to learn that they were entering the home security space. Unfortunately, this is a very crowded space and some of the decisions they've made are less than desirable. Good to Know: - (Required) The Hue Secure app to be able to setup/use these cameras. - (Recommended) A Hue Bridge to take advantage of Hue services (if you're planning on getting a Basic or Plus plan, you should ensure you have a Bridge). There is a limit of 10 cameras for the bridge. - (Recommended) A Basic or Plus plan to take advantage of activity and package zones, advanced alerts (i.e. custom alerts for people, packages, animals or vehicles) and clip history (basic plan gives you 30 days of access and advanced plan gives you 60 days). Pros: - Basic plan 30-day trial is included with purchase. This gives you access to smart alerts (i.e. people, packages, animals and vehicles) and access to up to 30 days of event recordings. - Works with your existing Hue Bridge and lights (i.e. Mimic Presence allows Hue Lights to be switched on and off in a way to appear from the outside as if someone is at home). - You can also set audio alarms (about the loudness of a police siren) and light alarms (flash red, white) in addition to being able to communicate two-ways. - Easy installation: I already had the Hue app so after scanning the camera code, updating software and charging - the camera was ready to go. Mounting is done with a single screw to the wall for the base piece and then the camera itself attaches magnetically. - IP65 water resistance rating gives flexibility of outdoor or indoor placement. - Security: end-to-end video encryption; Hue Bridge access does not enable access to video automatically (i.e. someone can have access to lights but video access must be explicitly enabled); processing of smart alerts (i.e. people, packages, animals and vehicles) is done on-device. - Includes a two-year product warranty with purchase. Cons: - Low resolution (1080p) vs. Quad HD (2k) or Ultra HD (4k) on many competitor devices. - Not compatible with HomeKit Secure Video (supposedly Amazon Echo video device compatibility is in the works). - No local storage option - recording requires a plan. - Rechargeable battery is NOT replaceable. - Subscription pricing. Basic plan is $39.99/PER camera per year (or $3.99 month) and Plus plan is $99.99/Up to 10 cameras per year (or $9.99 month). - Initial Hue Secure app process was a train wreck for me, because it refused to recognize my Hue account login, even though I was signed into said Hue account within the app. This handoff/on-boarding process should seriously be reviewed. - Motion detection and alerts are finicky with their sometimes being delays or missed events. Sometimes connecting to view can be slow as well. Suggested Improvements: - Add an option where physical movement or impact to the camera triggers the audio/light alarms (i.e. if someone were physically hitting or moving the camera). - Bring the price of the subscription down or build more value into it. As it is, it's hard to justify the premium cost of the camera AND the price of the subscription. After, say 5 years (if you're buying more than one) you start to get up there in the price bracket of commercial cameras that have way more advanced analytics, accuracy and quality for the same price (and many without subscriptions). - Make this play friendly with other devices. While it's nice to know that I'll eventually be able to view the camera feed from an Alexa, deeper smart home integration could actually HELP - for example, if I were able to automatically change the disarmed/armed status of the camera(s) based on whether a door was locked or unlocked.

With its impressive camera quality, ease of installation, and robust features, it offers a comprehensive solution for home security. This camera boasts a sleek and modern design that blends seamlessly with any outdoor setting. I live in one of the coldest areas, I need to wait for the winter to see how good the battery holds under subzero temperatures. One of the standout features of this camera is its exceptional camera quality. The camera captures video in stunning 2K resolution, offering crystal-clear images and videos. Whether it's day or night, the camera's advanced sensors and HDR technology ensure that every detail is captured with precision. A bit of a miis by Phillips on this one – there are a lot of positives and I’m sure that future gens will improve drastically but this one is a bit clunky Size – this is a fairly large camera and I had a bit of trouble mounting it. The magnetic base works well but getting it positioned into the view I want proved to be a bit trying. However, once it was there I can say that it stayed put. Setup – I also found this to be a bit of a pain. It’s not as intuitive as others I have used – it comes with virtually no instruction and just a QR code which when you scan it starts looking for a home kit or a hub automatically – too bad it does recognize the Hue hub. I had to do some Google searching to figure out how to connect – basically, you have to go through the app and manually add it – once I figured that out the installation went pretty smoothly. Connection – The camera did have a pretty good connection range – it seemed to be a bit better than most Use – please note this is a security camera and everything is designed as such – it’s not meant to be a monitoring system and if that’s what you want you should look to something else that said for this price you should get both. Viewing using the Hue App is pretty much a larger pain. Hue has designed the app to work great with lights and seems to have klugged the security section into the app and it is not intuitive to use. It really takes some work to get to view the cameras, The bottom line is if you want a security system to blend in with Hue I might go with this option however there are better security solutions out there And I would recommend one of those over this

False sense of security - exploring legal options

Picked up a pair of these cameras on a whim at BestBuy to replace my aging Arlo Pros - such a mistake. The camera is pretty much useless - packages were stolen from my doorstep and the camera captured no video clips! I am now exploring legal options - what good is a security camera that fails to perform the very basic functions reliably? Absolutely would not recommend this product to anyone.
