Rating it 4/5. 7.5/10 would be more precise Pros: -Works as intended/advertised -Basic color profiles -Very vibrant and convenient -Easy to set up Cons: -individually expensive(bought for cheap during the holiday sales) -I still don't have a purpose for the switch and its limited options/use. An extra bulb would have been a better offer. -The app could use a little more creative work. -Google low key stopped supporting Hue or vice versa; I have not been able to control my lights with Google Home and that was the intended purpose of this purchase. Overall: I'm very pleased with this purchase. Only spent about $130ish and intended to integrate them with voice control. The Hue app is simple and I wish it provided more functions and a fix to Google Home Support. (Still waiting for a fix to this someone let Google and Philips Know!!) These are A19 bulbs and apparently the newer series provide more true colors [the spectrum for these lack a true purple for instance. Just see what is painted on the box or display at your local store, and the same may be said for other cooler/warmer colors] If you have the money and want to experiment. Why not invest in these? They are supposed to last an average of 10-15 years (or so I've read) which can potentially cut a couple of $$ off your electricity bill. Why not have fun with this fun fact? Don't get me wrong, the Philips Hue app while it may feel like it lack some features, the best and most used feature I like are its Timer, Routine, and Schedule On/Off functions. They may as well be therapeutic, while purposely become the new age party favor for get togethers. Hope this review is helpful out of the bunch already posted.

Great Value - Great Smart Light Introduction

After eyeing this Hue starter kit for a while I decided to take the plunge. It's not difficult to set up, but as my house is on three stories found that I had to run around once or twice when setting up the Hub as the lights were on a different floor from the router. It works very well with the Google Assistant (I don't do Alexa). As I've seen people report, I can attest that it does take a while to set up - which is not because of it being hard to set up, but rather because once set up it takes time for each item (Hub + lights) to update (which doesn't bother me - with smart items, they get better and better). You don't have to watch over it though...set it up and update it (it's intuitive and automatic). It integrates very well with the Google Hub and Google smart speakers. You can 'name' individual bulbs, work with whole room schemes, set schedules, etc. Simply download the Hue software to your smart phone and you can control all your Hue devices by assigning preset ambience 'types' - like energizing (whiter sun-like light) to shore sunset, etc. I've researched several possible brands and setups and think that I made the right choice with the Hue family, especially because it works well, responds quickly to commands (either through the Hue app on your phone or "Hey, Google" and seems to be one of the systems that will remain at the head of the pack, at a reasonable price. I look forward to the day that the prices drop on adding additional lights... :)

For more in-depth reviews, go to the four bulb starter kit. I have had these about a week now and wish I would have gotten them sooner. Set up was smooth along with pairing. The hub does all the work for you. The switch is a great addition to the kit with programmable clicks to set secnes. Light out put is good to great depending on color and what you have the bulb in. Found it is the best with a cloth like lamp shade Pros. Ability to set up a geo fence so lights will turn on when you get home and turn off when you leave Hue sync: allows you to connect your lights to your pc. This is where the fun begins. Once connected and an entertainment area has been set. The application with change the light according to the colors on you computer screen. Google hue sync and which a video. It might change you’re light. Con. So far I have run it one and it’s not a big deal. The hue app is limited to basic functions. This can be solved with third party apps but understand why Phillips went this way. If you want that function, you can get an app for it. Keeps the hue app simple. Side note: the hues app is a great experience for controlling your lights just don’t plan on only having that one app for these puppies If you are on the fence, get them. You will not regret it!!

I dig these. It's basically my new toy. Never before did I feel that lights could be so much fun. For starters, I have Hue lights installed in my kitchen, living room and bedroom. I also went a little overboard and paired it with Alexa, Google Assistant and Home Kit since I own all of those devices, and so far it's been great controlling the lights with voice and smartphone. The range of scenes you can achieve through the lights are phenomenal. But what I really love about them is how you can customize them. For instance, you can take a picture (say a sunset) and through the Hue app, you can set your lights to mimic the scene of the sunset picture you took. Pretty neat I'd say. Another feature that I really dig is the routines. I wake up to my alarm around 7am everyday but I've programmed the lights to gently turn on around 650, and soft warm shades slowly wake me up form my slumber. I've yet to try the dimmer. But you can either wall mount it or stick it using adhesive. I'm thinking of putting it next to my bed so that I can orchestrate all the lights before sleep. My wife hates it though. She finds it to be gimmicky. But I'm working on refining her taste and appreciating the joy of colored lights.

Fun and simple product. Not great. Excellent selection of colors and color temperatures, but they need a 90, 100, 120, and 150w replacement. These are too dim for many applications, unfortunately. Works with Alexa but occasionally doesn’t respond. It’s a hue bridge issue and not Amazon’s network. That’s disappointing. For a single room or apartment, and no plans to make it work excellently with other “smart” products, it’s worth getting I suppose. For a home you own that you want to upgrade the lighting, it’s not the way to do it at all. Control (ease of use and to accommodate lifestyle) does not compare to the like’s of Lutron’s Radio Ra2 system. For everyday living these are like Tonka’s “My first controlled lighting” playset. Of course, that’s to be said for any DIY smarthome product. These... the reality... they are definitely not a whole-home, lighting control solution. For a true smarthome lighting solution, it just has to be done by a company specializing in home automation. Leave it to the experts if you want it done right. I was curious if these were a game changer. They’re not. Like I said, it’s another Tonka’s “my first” type toy for kids. Look to Lutron, Vantage, or Crestron if you want to mesh lighting control with how you live and function within your home. 3 stars because there’s a time and a place to use this product... for some people. If you’re in a dorm room this is awesome! I’m not...

Alright, so I'm gonna try to be unbiased, even though the product has impressed me. First, and foremost, buying this starter kit is actually more affordable than buying three more color lights. Consider that when it's time to add lights. Now with regards to the product, it's very user friendly, with an easy setup procedure, but it requires constant wifi. If your WiFi is not stable in certain rooms, then control may be questionable. Beyond the ease of setup, the lights themselves are exceptionally bright in white, but seem to lose lumens when reproducing certain colors, such as teal or violet. I also purchased the LED light strip for my TV and found the colors don't match perfectly with the bulbs. Just something to consider if you're even slightly OCD. Last thing to say: this setup is far more expensive than competing products, but the trade-off is easier warranty service and local replacement availability. Your choice.

I had been looking for smart lights for a while and decided to choose the Hue ecosystem during Black Friday weekend (which basically included the dimmer for free). Setup was pretty simple and the bulbs paired easily/automatically. The only issue I ran into was that the software update takes FOREVER. As a tip, I would recommend giving your bulbs line of sight to the hub during this update as I had some connection issues that I didn't have during normal operations. Anyways, lights look beautiful. Easy to configure. I would highly recommend installing the software on the Hue site that allows you to sync with your computer's video or audio. I had originally only planned to get a couple colored bulbs and get tunable whites for the rest of the apt, but I loved it so much that I splurged and bought more colored bulbs (and going to get a LED strip soon too). I have not compared with any of the competitors, but I am still very happy with my Hue purchase...even at the premium price point.

This is a great starter pack with color bulbs. Having 3 bulbs is ideal for a living room because you can use them for two table lamps and a floor lamp. This package includes the bridge which allows connection of the included components and also additional Philips Hue products. It also allows control using the Hue app which is great for turning bulbs on/off, increasing/decreasing brightness and changing colors. It also allows for routines to be automatically configured based on different triggers such as sunrise, sunset, time of day, day of week, or phone location. The included remote switch is also excellent. It has 4 buttons. On/Off and brightness +/- controls. The app allows for the On switch to be configured for 5x different actions. Basically, you can configure it where each press or subsequent press of the On button activates a different light scene, up to 5x actions. This is in addition to the dimming buttons and the Off button. Plus, the switch is also a "remote" because the button unit can be removed from the base and used as a remote. It is only attached to the plastic white base using built-in magnets.

With our new(ish) baby, we decided to upgrade some of our key spaces with these bulbs, which gave us the option to have Alexa (or Google) control the lights for us when moving into different spaces with our hands full. Carrying my son into his nursery before sunrise (cosleeping...) I can ask Alexa to turn on Mr Fox (his lamp) so we have low light to get us started before having to turn on the fuller lights, and I can easily take the lights up or down with my phone (from downstairs if I don't have the chance to turn lights off when we leave the room) or with the great remote control. When I'm away from home, I can see if my wife and son are up and if i know they've gone to sleep and left lights on I can turn the lights off in certain rooms right from my phone. I played with the whole color gamut to begin with, and there are a few scenes (especially around bedtime) that make a lot of sense, but the thing I was most excited about (color) turned out a distant second to the value of the convenient interface.

This bundle comes with every thing you need to start your smart home with lighting. Philips Hue has great variety of lights and the color is great. Full range of colors from true white to any color you would like. Using the Hue App (or even Hue Essentials (on Google Play)), you can fully customize you home lighting experience. Once connected to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you have full control of your lights with a simple command. I was able to set up the lights and start using them within a few minutes. After you have things working you will begin to tweak it to your custom unique experiences. Within an hour I was using voice commands. Within a day I had the entire system working exactly the way I liked it. Package comes with all the necessities. The bridge is key to using and customizing your experience using the Hue app. The dimmer switch even works when you internet is down thanks to the bridge. This is a MUST HAVE and the best way to get started with smart lighting in your home!!!!

I am an avid SmartThings user, but this was my first attempt at using a smart lights system. The lights themselves are very nice, just screw them in, download the app, hookup the hub, and you're good to go. A couple more clicks, and they're now in smartthings! I have a few routines setup for night lights, "morning lights" (which is a lower power output and more traditional colored lighting) and a "day lights" setting - which better matches the light found at high noon. They work exactly as expected - my only gripe is that they aren't very bright. The lumen output is rated at 800 lumens (which isn't much), but can be even lower depending on the color temperature of the light your using, as well as the power output. That combined with a lamp shade makes for pretty dim lights. You get used to the lighting, but I wish they were brighter. Overall, I'll still buy more - the convenience outweighs this minor issue, and I can automate them to do all sorts of things.

This review is more about the package deal than about the products themselves. Philips Hue color lights are a lot of fun, though at $50/light, can be prohibitively expensive. This package was priced for a holiday sale, resulting in an overall price less than the three bulbs would be individually; and the package also included the hub and a wall dimmer switch. Since a wall switch is a necessity for any room using hue lights, including the switch as part of this package is essential. At the discounted price for the holiday sale, that meant the switch was effectively free. As a starter package, the hub was also included; and at the holiday price the hub was also effectively free. Each item was also separately boxed, so this package could be broken into separate individual packages for gift giving. A great way to start a new system, though priced low enough to create a functional room full of color lights with a throw-away hub to boot.

This starter pack has three color lights, the hub, and the dimmer switch. I got the pack during the Black Friday sales for $119 which was amazing value as the color bulbs alone would normally cost that much. The lights themselves are great, I got the 4th generation and they are bright although not as bright as LifX (800 vs 1100 lumens). I own them both, the Hue's integrate slightly better with more 3rd parties and generally work 5% more reliably over the Lifx as the latter depends on how good your wifi is. The colors on the Lifx are better but they tend to be more expensive. Overall you can't go wrong with either and they are the best Smartbulbs money can buy. The dimmer adds value when you can stick it to a wall nearby and may not want to use voice at night and disturb your family. I strongly recommend this pack to anyone looking for a starter kit especially if you can find a deal.

This is the second starter kit I’ve bought. I needed the updated hub and I wanted to try out the switch so I got this kit to add to my existing Hue lights. The switch is great. On, off, and dimmer buttons, plus keep pressing the On button to cycle through the presets... so much quicker than usin the app. Also another great feature of the switch is that it has a magnetic mount. I have mine of the fridge because it controls my kitchen. The hub is incredible too. I had the original hub so the features were limited. When I hooked this up I synced it to my PC to play games and watch movies... mind blown! Right now I’m playing Battlefield V. The extra immersion the light provide are insane. When a V2 drops and lights up the screen with a flash and flames, the lights also light up and turn orange. Simply incredible! Highly recommend.

Relatively easy setup...I actually setup the bridge and lights before I found the setup instructions. The bulbs were functional as soon as screwed in, working with old wall switch. The Hue bridge adds a ton of function...local/remote control, brightness/color, event-triggered automation and more. Although it all worked right out of box, newest features required the app, bridge, and each bulb to download and update its software, which takes quite a while but was very straightforward. Lights can be controlled via Hue app, Apple HomeKit (and others), or by voice via smart speaker (e.g. Apple HomePod). Scenes and rooms synchronize between the apps (single setup) but functionality varies between apps. Four button wall switch works great and attaches to wall magnetically or via tape or screws (neat) and switch pops out to become remote. LOTS OF FUN...CAN’T WAIT TO PLAY MORE.

Pros: * I really like the dimming range and ability to set color temperature. * The included remote switch is much better than the simple "ON/OFF" remote these lights replaced. This switch allows for 5 different lighting profiles and included dimming capabilities. * The available color settings are very good. Cons: * I've had some problems with phone/tablet apps connecting to the Hue hub. * The included remote switch does not provide a way to alter color selection (other than one of the 5 presets). * There are a number of other operational features available but, due to concerns over personal and data privacy that go with cloud-based implementations, I'll likely never use them. * Price is still pretty steep - even with holiday discounts. Overall, it is a very good product. No recommendations though - only because I don't believe in them....

I absolutely love the smart bulb concept and smart lighting. As a programming I like certain lighting throughout different parts of the day and these are absolute perfect. I can control them with my Echo device and Apple HomeKit as well as have them synced to my computer and keyboard. Drawbacks: Obviously the price is steep and overpriced for what it is, once more competition comes around Phillips will be forced to drop the price to compete but for now it it what it is. Some more lighting effects would also be nice, such as the ability to sync to music and have strobes and other party effects in app. Overall: This is a steal for the price of $120, anymore and it really just depends on how much you really want to have smart lights and how your gonna use them. Currently just have them used in my room. To do the whole house would get quite pricey.

I tried some WiFi smart bulbs from a competitor (no hub required) and couldn't even get the first one to connect to my router. Immediately sent them back, and went with the Hue. OMG, was there an immense difference! The hub connected very fast, and the bulbs connect with extreme ease to the hub. Each bulb responds immediately to the commands on the app, or if you choose, voice prompts using Alexa or Google. I have a 4,000 sq/ft house, with the router located on the second floor, and these bulbs have no issue communicating with the hub from anywhere in the house, even some on the outside pool area or front porch. Just ordered more bulbs to keep expanding and replacing most bulbs in the house with these ones. Definitely the best smart bulbs in the market right now.

This whole smart home idea seems a bit premature from a stand point of standardization. Everyone has their own app, think of the wife and telling her which remote controls what aspect of the Home theater. Non starter. Using Google Home to control everything, also a non starter. So I have zero'd in on Hue and Wemo as the tech for lighting. They both have their own app, and they are easy to create schedules on when to light up. As far as this Hue bundle. Its a great price for the pieces that you get . The switch is a nice simple touch. What I do have an issue with is the coloration's. Much better than gen 1 but really has a way to go. Its tough to get the right color and brightness. You really need to fuss with it... All in all I am still on the fence with it.

I love smart home devices, i am also a software developer. Hue Lights are really cool, expensive but really cool and the newer version are better since colors are a lot more accurate than previous versions. The Philips - Hue Color 3pk Starter Kit with Lightswitch - Multicolor is really nice because it allows you to start using the lights and also control them without using the app. I mostly use different colors and dim levels in the bedroom and they are great for going to sleep. They are expensive but if you have some budget I would say that you should try them out.
