    Best Electric Shave I've Had

I’ve been using my trusty Philips Norelco Multi Groomer 3000 for my shaving needs for years now, the current being my 2nd one. I’ve got no plans to toss it out, but I’ve been wanting a shaver that would work in the shower and provide a closer shave without pinching me when I’m not careful of the trimmer blades. Since I’ve had such good results with Philips, I looked at their Wet & Dry shavers, specifically the higher end models as I’d like to get one that will last me for years to come. I decided to go big and go home, picking out the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Pros: - Smooth Shave, even when dry. - Easy to use with simple smart guiding features. - Works best in shower with foam. - Comes with travel case. Cons: - Dry shaving did pull hair and result in razor burn. - Longer or thicker hair will be a challenge. Setup: Setup on the Norelco i9000 was simple, out of the box there is a partial charge on the shaver so you can jump right into using it. A full charge takes about an hour, but you can also get about a shave worth charge with just 5mins of charging. This was simple to do, though Philips doesn’t include a USB outlet charger, so you will need to grab one from the stockpile of phone chargers you have. It charging light indicator made it very easy to tell when the shaver was done charging. I was able to use the Norelco i9000 without the software but would recommend using it for the customization features and maintenance reminders. Setting up the app is simple and took less than 1 min to navigate the settings. Customizing will take a bit more depending on what you need but allows you to make your routine more comfortable. You can also turn off or control the behavior of the lights in the app a bit if you find the lights a bit too much. Without customization, the shaving settings can be set to Sensitive, Regular, Intense, and Foam. Sensitive being easier on the skin, Regular being between Sensitive and Intense, and Intense being for the extra thick hairy ones. Foam helps the shaver work with shaving foams, which I was glad to see and look forward to trying it out. The included travel case is a nice touch with the premium shaver. The case is big enough to fit the shaver, attachments, and charging cable. Dry Shave: I’ve never used a shaver with the flexible shaving heads like the Norelco i9000 before, so I expected my first shave would result in some pain, but I was surprised by the results. I used the regular setting for the first try to get a sense of how to use the razor. I didn’t get any cuts, but did get some bleeding from hairs that got pulled out of the skin. Surprisingly, this only happened on my lower neck in one area. This same area of the neck is where I got razer burn, which leads me to believe it was mostly due to my own technique and inexperience with these types of razors. I had no issues in the usual places such as under the nose or under the chin. No burns or cuts at all, whereas with the trimmer and blade razors I usually get a cut or two. One minor concern I noticed was that longer and thicker hair took multiple passes to cut all of it. This resulted in some skin irritation, which was more intense with the dry shave attempt. For regular uses, such as daily or every other day I don’t think there will be much issue but for the first shave after a grow out you might want to consider trimming all the hair down for better results. Wet Shave: After my initial “dry” run on one side of my face, I finished the shave in the shower. Let me tell you, shave wet or with a foam from soap/gel/shaving foam. It makes all the difference when compared to dry shaving, even just adding water made the experience all the better. It was easy to shave without pulling hair or causing razer burn. The only downside I found to shaving in the shower was I didn’t have a mirror in front of me, so I missed a few spots. On my next shave, I tried shaving in the shower with soap, and it was the best shave I’ve had with an electric shaver. To be clear, I’ve used all types of shaving foam from gel to cream, and a good moisturizing bar of soap was what worked the best for me with razors. Soap with the i9000 got me to that smooth clean after shave feel I was used to with the razor. Though, I still must do touch ups outside the shower to clean up the hairs missed. I did try shaving on other areas like my chest, leg, and armpit. I found that the i9000 worked great for the armpits but struggled on the thicker and curlier hair of the chest and legs. Changing the settings improved the performance, but I found cutting shorter hair always worked noticeably better and resulted in less passes, which was less time shaving and less chance for irritation. Run Time: I’ve only gotten 3 shave days of use on the shaver so far, with most of the 1st and 2nd shave being mostly playing around with the different settings and getting the technique down. With the current use, I got down to 65% battery left on my 3rd shave which would be about 20ish mins in total. I’d say the 60min run time is accurate, plus the quick charge being more than enough for a single shave. Cleaning: Cleaning the shaving heads is easy, and the shaver will remind you after each use to clean out the shaver head. The head does need a deeper clean every month, which requires removing of the shaving blades to wash and clean, or the use of a shaving head cleaner accessory, which is available in other sets. Instructions for cleaning are included in the little guide but I’m going to guess the app will send you a reminder when it's time to clean and change out the blades based on the insightful metrics provided in app. This makes keeping track of when to do the maintenance simple and easy. Conclusion: If you want one of the best wet shaving experiences you can have, this is the electric shaver to get. The additional attachments provide flexibility, where the flexible shaver head might fall short such as a precision trimmer or longer hair. Though the shaver can be used dry, it runs the risk of pulling hairs or razer burn, which can be negated with the use of a foam or wet shave in the shower. By far, this was the best electric shaver experience I’ve had, achieving a level of closeness that I cannot find with other shavers. Hairs down I’ll be recommending this one.

Having repeatedly run the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, I can say without doubt that it is among the most amazing electric shavers I have ever come across. Having tested with a range of electric razers over the course of their lives, I can personally attest to the great variation in quality and performance among each one. You are immediately surrounded by excellent quality as soon as you grab the i9000 Prestige Ultra. The ergonomic shape lets the hand fit comfortably, which facilitates easy navigation across the complex features of your face. Though critiques of this particular model do not directly address this, Philips often uses premium materials in their Prestige line, which gives the shaver a sturdy and elegant feel. Regarding this part, the i9000 Prestige Ultra definitely excels. The Triple Action Lift & Cut technology gently elevates the hair from the root before precisely cutting it at -0.08mm below the skin level. The blades never make direct touch with the flesh. The ultimate effect is a shaving that is almost perfect in closeness and matches the one you would get from a traditional razor. Even now, one can feel my face to be smooth to the touch after an entire day. The Hydro SkinGlide Coating provides a gliding feeling fifty percent smoother on the skin upon application when compared to previous generations. This clearly lessens discomfort even for someone like me with sensitive skin. With the Skin IQ Pro technology, you may customize your shave in line with your skin type and degree of sensitivity by using the five distinct shaving techniques. The adaptable little heads fit every contour of your face so they are always in touch with your skin. Shaving accuracy increases by 20% as a result, especially in areas like the neck and lower nose that are typically challenging to access. Even on beards growing for one to seven days, the NanoTech Precision blades—which rotate 360 degrees and have 8 million cutting motions per minute—are able to effectively capture hair emerging in every direction. The i9000 Prestige Ultra boasts outstanding artificial intelligence-powered features. The Active Pressure and Motion guidance technology uses a light ring to provide real-time feedback for helping you to improve your shaving technique. This feedback shows when you are using the suitable pressure. Over time, I have really improved my shaving technique by use of this clever feedback system. The battery provides an amazing performance and a good margin of shaving time between charges. Philips is sure this shaver will endure for two years and has a self-sharpening blade lifetime that spans up to seven years. The bundle covers all you need the shaver itself, a precision trimmer, a charging stand, a Quick Cleaner and a premium travel box. Although it performs remarkably well for detailing mustaches and sideburns, the precision trimmer is an attachment rather than a built-in tool. Though the i9000 Prestige Ultra is very expensive, if you are looking for a luxury shaving experience you should give it some thinking since it provides an exceptional shave quality, comfort, intelligent features, and lifetime. Another advantage of the long warranty term is mental peace of mind about your purchase. Regarding electric shaving technologies, the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra is regarded as the height of performance. Here is delivery of the intimacy, comfort, and accuracy it advertises. The price range puts the best possible electric shaving experience squarely in the luxury category; yet, for those who are looking for electric shaving, the performance and features justify the expenditure. After utilizing the electric shaver I have been using for the past few weeks, my face feels better than it has ever felt at last, I have found one that can adequately replace my conventional razor.

    Premium Shaving Experience

What’s in the box: The razor comes with a handy fabric covered zippered carrying case, trimmer attachment, cleaning brush, and a charging stand with separate cord. Out of the box, the razor had approximately a 50-percent charge. Charging: This is the first razor I’ve owned that required me to go find a spare USB wall charger. It comes with a cord that has a USB-A connection at one end and a proprietary charging plug at the other that connects to the razor. It seems any old wall charger will do. I repurposed a spare cell phone charger (5V, 1.5A) and it works fine and charged the razor in under an hour. Also included is a charging stand. The stand works well, but after a couple of days I have learned that my wife wants that counter space back. For now, the charger and cord will live in a drawer in the vanity, and I will plug in the charger as needed. Shaving experience and comfort: I have been using the Philips Norelco i9000 daily for the last several days, and my experience has been a quick, comfortable, close shave. The flexing head design follows the contours of my face and ensures the same excellent result from nearly any angle of approach. It seems like my shave time has been reduced, and I believe this is due to not needing to go back over areas to get what was missed in the first pass. In operation, the i9000 is very quiet. It is truly a pleasure to use. The Philips Norelco i9000 is a premium electric razor with a lot of technology incorporated into its feature set. Most notable to me: - Numeric display of remaining battery percentage. - This razor slides over my skin very smoothly versus my old one. Documentation suggests this is likely due to a “Hydro SkinGlide” coating. It’s effective. - Multiple shaving modes to accommodate different beard types and shaving conditions (maybe you use a shaving foam? The i9000 has you covered). - Light ring around the top perimeter of the shaver body changes color to indicate I’m using an appropriate pressure. Green=good pressure. Red=I’m pushing too hard. (see photos) The list goes on. Cleaning the Philips Norelco i9000 is a breeze. The cutter head can be rinsed while closed and in operation; I have found this a quick, effective way to clean the head each morning. The shaver pops open to facilitate more direct rinsing/cleaning. A small brush is included to dislodge stubborn debris. Trimmer attachment: I am glad to see that the i9000 includes a trimmer attachment to tend to those stray hairs that seem to pop up out of nowhere. Eyebrow? Sideburn? Something sprung from an ear? Neck’s getting a little unruly? No problem. This trimmer handles it all with ease. The trimmer on the i9000 is a separate piece that requires I power off the shaver, remove the shaver head (heads pop off and back on with minimal effort) and replace it with the trimmer attachment. The trimmer works as expected, but I am left scratching my head over the design decision of a separate attachment. This is my second Philips Norelco rotary razor and, to be honest, I prefer the trimmer on my previous shaver. It was an integrated design that instantly popped up from the back of the shaver body when needed and disappeared with a “click” when I was done with it. Overall, the Philips Norelco i9000 is a very nice upgrade to my previous Norelco rotary shaver. The reduced friction as it slides across my skin, ability to select beard type and shaving condition (foam/wet/dry), and the upgraded display conveying plain language, easy-to-understand razor status messages all combine to provide an excellent shaving experience.

Having slow growing, sparse, and coarse facial hair makes close dry shaving an everyday challenge for me. The budget shaver I’ve used since 2016 requires me to do numerous passes, irritating my skin especially on consecutive shaving days. The Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra cuts much closer to my ideal shave in less time, leaving my skin smoother and even to the touch. I still experienced some minor irritation likely due to using the intense setting, as the regular mode wasn’t very effective for me. Granted the irritation was probably a combination of my sensitive skin and user error, as I did struggle to use the optimal pressure and technique as guided by the i9000 indicator lights and its companion app, GroomTribe. That being said, some general things I liked about this shaver: -Lightweight -Easy to read text on a colorful screen. -Multiple shaving modes (sensitive, regular, intense, foam, custom) -Light ring that indicates optimal pressure, motion guidance, or a combination of both, selectable. -“Real time guidance” in the Philips GroomTribe app (via Bluetooth) which also provides feedback on sessions post-shave such as an overall score on duration, pressure, and motion used. -Shaver will send info from the last shave to the app the next time it is connected, even if it wasn’t connected at the time of use. Some cons: -At about 5-7% battery I started getting bombarded by push notifications every few minutes from the GroomTribe app, telling me to charge the shaver. After plugging the shaver in, the app continued to send until a few minutes passed and the battery was charged more. -In my opinion, the travel/carry case has some wasted space. I did wish it came with a cover for the heads so I could just toss the i9000 into a toiletry bag, but not really a big deal. -Battery life seems just ok - the app states that the thickness of hair, shaving technique, how clean the blade is affects the battery life - but for me, one 6 minute session (4 minutes of shaving, followed by 1-2 minutes of on and off use) dropped the battery from full to 69%. According to the app it still had 10 shaves/34 more minutes of run time, maybe I just shaved for too long per session. -No charging brick (USB cable only) so having your own or something that supplies USB power will be a necessity. Overall, for me the Philips i9000 does a great job and helps me optimize shaving sessions with relatively useful feedback via its companion app.

    Great Premium Shaver

The i9000 Prestige Ultra is a really nice high-end shaver that provides a really close and comfortable shave, along with a handy guide light. The app, while I still think it is a bit superfluous, has some helpful customization features and fortunately you can enjoy everything the shaver has to offer without it. The box for this particular model includes the shaver, trimmer attachment, travel case, charging stand, charging cable, and a cleaning brush. Based on the manual there are other versions of this shaver that include a different variety of accessories and this one seems to be one of the more basic bundles. The charging cable does not include an AC adapter, which is disappointing. The cable ends at a USB-A connection and that in itself isn’t bad, but the side that goes into the shaver is still proprietary, so you’ll need to make sure you pack that specific cable with it if you’re traveling. If they were going to go with a USB charging cable I wish they had gone the extra step and made the connection on the shaver and the base USB-C so you could use any cable to charge it. The i9000 is an excellent shaving experience. The shaving heads cover a large area and easily contour to my face. I’ve been using the regular shaving mode and it provides a very close shave with very little irritation. The built-in ring light provides feedback on whether or not you’re putting too much or not enough pressure on your face and it can also be customized for motion as well. It’s also very easy to clean and can be rinsed under the sink or brushed clean with the included mini brush. I will say this is not a shaver made for people with beards and it doesn’t offer a ton of precision. For something like that I’ll go back to my OneBlade. The app seemed like an unnecessary extra to me at first and for the most part it is, but it does offer some helpful customization on the default shaving state and what the ring light indicates. It shows the estimated life left on the shaving heads and the approximate number of shaves left on the current charge level. It also has a guided shave program built in, which I haven’t tried. The battery life after the first few days has been great and this will easily last a week, maybe two, without needing to charge. It takes a bit of the sting out of the charging cable situation. Overall I’m happy with the i9000 Prestige Ultra and I think it has a lot of nice features for its price. I do wish there was a little bit more in the way of accessories, but you can also spring for a different version of it.

I am a longtime loyal customer purchasing Philips and Norelco products for various men’s shavers over the years. My prior Philips model was a 9400 model, but I expected the new i9000 Prestige Ultra to have more accessories included in it for the price. I did notice on the manufacturer’s website that they did offer combos that included the quick cleaning pod which does not cost that much. I was pleased with the look of the new i9000 when I unboxed it and liked the fact that it encouraged customers to download the Grooming App which I had done in the past but stopped using it. I downloaded the app again for my iPhone to be able to pair it via Bluetooth and see what kind of feedback it would give me on my shaving technique and even changes colors on the shaver while you are using it to alert you from yellow to green with the optimal color being green for applying the right amount of pressure and also alerts you when you have completed enough circular motion passes. The app does have some useful information, and I have to admit it was the first razor I ever had that had cool looking lights around the blades to help guide you without needing to look at your phone. I noticed they suggested not using shaving cream to make sure your skin does not accidentally become injured from the slick products and the blades. I always dry shave with them, so I did not even notice the warning until I started writing this review. I like the fact that they always come with a manufacturer’s warranty and have easy to replace blades or cleaning products that help keep the razor clean and blades free of residue buildup. I was able to use my new razor with the cleaning pod from my older razor and it worked perfectly and even displayed more information on the front of the razor that my old one did not have. This one also comes with a travel lock so you can through it in your luggage and not worry about it turning it on by accident. It also charges easily and quickly with the included stand, and it was fully charged within 90 minutes for me. I am happy overall with the razor and expect it to last several years without any issues.

An Exceptionally Close and Comfortable Shave

As you can tell by my pictures, I'm a huge fan of Philips Norelco electric shavers. I've been using electric shavers for over 15 years. I made the switch from foil shavers to rotary shavers about 6 years ago and never looked back. While foil shavers did the job, I would get the occasional ingrown hair as a result from shaving. I also wasn't too impressed with the neck shaving performance. I decided to try a rotary shaver and I'm so glad I did. I started with the original S9000 prestige shaver that Philips released in 2019. After several months of really enjoying the shaving performance of the original S9000, I noticed that I had not encountered any ingrown hairs. Six years later and I've yet to get even a single ingrown hair from any one of Philips rotary shavers. It's one of the main reasons I've stuck with Philips for so long and why I'm always excited when Philips releases a new flagship shaver. I've owned pretty much every major S9000/Prestige shaver release for the last several years. In my attached picture, starting with the original S9000 prestige on the left, you can see how the body and shaver head design has evolved over the years. This new i9000 Prestige Ultra maintains a sleek and modern appearance while featuring the same top notch build quality I've come to expect from the prestige line of shavers. The body of the shaver is constructed of premium grade plastics. I'm really pleased with this new darker colorway with lower part of the body being a dark blue while the top of the handle transitions into a chrome finish. The lower part of the handle has a lovely satin finish that makes it feel extremely satisfying to hold. Both the power and menu button are texturized and feel solid to the touch. I also love the rubber texturized grip on the back of the handle which has proven useful in situations where I need to angle the shaver. However, I do miss the prominent groove in the rear body that was on previous versions of the S9000 prestige models (this can also be seen in my pictures). Having this aggressive groove in the back does wonders for the ergonomics as it allows you to wrap your index finger into the groove and get more precise control when angling the shaver. I suspect that the "SenseIQ" motion & pressure sensors probably don't allow for this type of design as I noticed that one of my older S9000 models, which also has the "SenseIQ" sensors, also has this same tall body design without the prominent groove in the back (see pictures). I've been using this new i9000 Prestige Ultra for a week now and it's as good a shave as I've ever received from any flagship Philips Norelco shaver. While this shaver is fully IPX7 certified and can therefore be taken into the shower, for the absolute closest shave, I get the best results with a dry shave. While this new i9000 Prestige Ultra provides an incredibly close shave, I didn't notice much of a difference from my previous series 9000 and Prestige shavers. This is likely due to the fact that this new i9000 model is still using the same "SH91" shaving heads that the previous models have been using. Personally, I think this is a great thing. I really dislike it when manufacturers release a new version of a flagship product (after a couple years of releasing the original) and completely change the refill accessories for the original product. It leaves customers with an expensive product that they soon won't be able to use due to discontinued parts. I love that Philips has stuck to the SH91 shaving heads for the better part of the last 4 years (maybe even longer). They're phenomenal blades that shave incredibly close to the skin whilst still having a very smooth glide to them. I also love the amount of flex in the new redesigned shaving head discs. Whenever I'm shaving in all sorts of odd angles around my neck and chin, they perfectly flex to contour the shape of my facial area. They also glide over my skin like butter. The only thing that I wish Philips would revise is the amount of gap space in the middle between all 3 shaving disc heads. Since I have a pretty prominent cleft chin, once in a while, the plastic edge of one of the shaving head discs will slightly snag on my chin because of that opening. It's a minor annoyance since it doesn't happen too often. However, this was a non-issue with the original S9000 prestige as the shaving head discs were a lot closer together and thus never caught an edge. This i9000 Prestige Ultra really shines in the comfort department due to its "SenseIQ" technology. You can either download the Philips GroomTribe app (and pair with Bluetooth) or you can make customizations right on the shaver with the large LED screen and menu button. You're able to choose between Regular, Intense, Foam, and Sensitive shaving modes. Each shaving mode is paired with light guidance. The colorful LED ring right below the shaver head will light up a certain color to let you know if you're using too little, too much, or just the right amount of pressure. It also has a motion sensor that provides feedback if you're not using the correct slow and controlled circular shaving motions. It will light up green if you're doing it properly or purple if you're going too fast or not using slow and controlled circular motions. Having this light guidance has been a bit of a game changer for me because it ensures that I'm not rushing through my shave and irritating my skin in the process. It has resulted in some of the most pleasant and and comfortable shaves. As someone who has sensitive skin, the i9000 has never left my skin feeling irritated. The Philips GroomTribe app also provided me with helpful information such as the percentage of how much use I have left on my shaving heads, how many shaves I have left based on battery life (can also be seen on the shaver LED screen), real time pressure and motion data during shaving, and even summarized graphical views of how each shaving session went (i.e. historical data on pressure, motion, duration). The accessories included with this particular model of the i9000 Prestige Ultra leave a bit to be desired. While you do get a premium travel case, a charging base, and precision trimmer attachment, Philips has decided to no longer include a power adapter. This is the first time, in 6 years of buying their shavers, that I've encountered this. They include their USB-A to their proprietary charging connector, but you now have to provide your own power adapter. Yet another cost cutting measure it seems. I'm not a fan of this trend and I'm pretty disappointed that Philips has jumped on this bandwagon. Thankfully I was able to use one of the Philips power adapters that came with one of my previous shavers. It also seems like some of the premium accessories, like the UV power charger and precision beard styler, only come with certain models of the i9000. While I do like the new modern and illuminated charging stand, I still think that the original wireless Qi charging base that was released for the original prestige S9000 model in 2019 is the best charging base Philips has ever designed. This is not just from an aesthetics perspective, but from a functional standpoint as well. I much prefer simply being able to quickly set my shaver down on a flat base to charge than having to fiddle with making sure that the female connector port on the bottom of the shaver lines up perfectly with the male connector on the charging base. The cleaning pod for this model also isn't included so you'll either have to purchase it separately or settle with cleaning the shaver heads under running tap water. Overall, I think this new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra continues to be one of the best flagship electric shavers on the market. It provides an exceptionally close shave while still delivering what is probably the most comfortable shave on the market from an electric shaver. I do hope to see improvements in the future with the accessories that come included with these flagship shavers from Philips. I'm probably dreaming here but I would also love to see either a shaver head redesign with a smaller gap in the middle or an optional shaver head made specifically for people with prominent cleft chins (whereby the shaver heads are designed to have a smaller gap in the middle). If you're someone looking to make the transition to electric shavers and want one of the best performing shavers out there, or you're someone with sensitive skin who is prone to ingrown hairs when shaving, I highly recommend trying this shaver!

I exclusively use electric razors, and once your face is “conditioned” I don’t think you can beat the comfort and results of a high-quality rotary razor. I consider the Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra the best rotary razor available today! The shaving head is slightly smaller than previous versions, and the material has been formulated to reduce drag. The shaver is ergonomically designed and a joy to hold, mainly due to the contoured case. The shaving head is removable and can be replaced with the included trimmer attachment, which eliminates the “boxy” feel that most shavers have since there’s no “pop-up” trimmer. Aside from the razor, shaving head, and trimming head, there is a charging stand, cleaning brush, and charging cord (not a power supply) included. There is no USB-A power block included for the charging cord or standard AC cord, but the cord from my older Norelco also fits the razor. This unit does not include the cleaning base, so if you don’t have one be prepared for a regular “clean razor” notification on the razor’s display panel. Aside from self-sharpening blades, the razor has a blade coating stated to reduce friction by 50%. Five shaving modes can be selected including sensitive, regular, intense, foam shaving, and custom controlled by a selector on the razor. There is an included power adapt sensor that adjusts the razor speed/power based on the density of your beard. You can also select a light guidance mode where lights around the edge of the razor will indicate whether you are effectively shaving and coach you for better shaver performance. The razor also connects via Bluetooth to their app which gives shaving insights as well as tracking razor usage. I’ve been using mine daily for a week, and the battery level is still above 90%, which includes running it in the cleaner after each use.

I’ve been using a Philips Norelco shaver for several years and it had served me very well. It was time for a replacement and I’m very impressed with the quality and features of this new i9000 Prestige Ultra. It never occurred to me that having an app for a shaver could be useful in any way, and yet this makes a few nice arguments for that functionality. Right out of the box it’s was clear this is a high end shaver, well packaged and a sturdy premium build quality. Very familiar in many ways to my older shaver however and that’s not a bad thing. It includes a charging stand, a USB based charging cable without a power adapter, a trimmer attachment, cleaning brush, and carrying case. On the shaver itself the most obvious updates are the screen and light ring around the neck. The screen allows for easy settings change and battery life while the light ring is aimed at giving real time feedback about your shaving habits. It will change colors to alert you of too much or too little pressure, as well as too much motion to help you get a better quality shave. The app gives you those same feedbacks while you shave as well as tracking the time you spend, and keeping tabs on the life of the foils and blades and even deeper settings you can tweak. I really appreciate most the ability to track the blade life so I’ll know when to replace them down the road instead of guessing. It’s very easy to use, gives me a much better closer shave in less time than my old one, and with an hour plus of battery life it can go awhile between charges if necessary for travel. It is also very quiet which is a nice perk. The only real drawback is the exclusion of a power adapter which is a trend I don’t appreciate especially for products in this price range. If you value your skin especially if you shave daily this is an excellent investment, it does a fantastic job and it is a worthy upgrade for me.

I have been using Norelco electric shavers for years now and have loved them all. From the 1000 series to my 5000, never had any complaints with my shave. The new i9000 has been an absolute treat from my previous series. From the LED color sensors telling you if you are pressing too hard to the app that lets you know how your routine is, there is a lot of features from Norelco. In the box is the shaver, base charging station, USB charging cable (must supply your own power brick), cleaning comb and a trimmer attachment. I downloaded the app and paired the shaver easily. You can set with the app how you want to shave. For example, Balance for a normal all around shave. There is also wet, foam, intense (those with thicker beards) for all types of faces out there. The screen on the shaver lets you know battery status, charging status, cleaning prompts and other useful info. My favorite feature is while shaving, the LED ring changes color from green, yellow to a redish hue to let you know how much pressure to allow to the area you are shaving. I did notice the chin area for me is always yellow as I don't think it can sense the angle of the chin. The trimmer attachment is excellent and cuts in a perfectly straight line with 2 or 3 passthroughs. After every shave if you have it paired to the app, you get your My Shave info telling you how the motion was, duration (apparently 3 minutes is the sweet spot), battery level and how the shaving heads are. Coming from a 5000 to a 9000 is a nice step up and has obviously become my new daily driver. I would recommend to all.

    Easy / Gentle shaving

The new Norelco I9000 Prestige Ultra is extremely gentle on the skin and i love the innovation, it is wild how much they put an accent on personalization. I found it to be the closest thing to razor shaving. It's faster though and covers a large amount of skin while doing it. The shaver comes with a nice travel bag, the cable (usbA) charger, dock and a precision head. If you are looking for a fast shave and the facial hair it's been grown for more then 7-10 days i recommend going first with the precision head really quick and then using the shaving head. So i am amazed how personalized everything is about the I9000. Everything it's done thru the GroomTribe app that controls the speed of the blades tells you the right pressure to use (also you can see that thru the integrated light) or the right circular motion that you should use for the best shaving results. I also strongly recommend using their App, it is pretty cool for Real-time guidance and Shaver personalization but if you decide not to... you have a nice color screen on the shaver that you can use to acces all the right setting with the press of a button. I have used it on dry skin with the Sensitive setting and it did a fenomenal job but i saw that it has 4 other settings like : -Regular -Intense -Foam Or Custom. You just have to pick what's right for you!

The Cleanest Shave… But No Charger

I’ve tried so many three-headed electric shavers that I’ve lost count. Most claim to offer a smooth, frictionless shave, but that has rarely been the case in my experience. Enter the new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra. My first impression was that this shaver was overkill with features that would serve no practical purpose. But I’m glad I was wrong — yes, it has some gimmicks, but this is by far the best and cleanest shave I’ve ever had with an electric shaver. === PROS === - There are five shaving modes to choose from while you are shaving: Sensitive, Regular, Intense, Foam, and Custom. You can cycle between modes by pressing the button below the screen. I’ve been mostly using the Sensitive mode and it is excellent - there is very little friction and no pulling of hairs. I can hardly tell that I’m shaving — the heads glide so smoothly across my face that they are almost imperceptible. - My chin is normally the most difficult part of my face to shave. With other shavers, I almost always miss a spot on my chin - but not with the i9000 Prestige. The heads seem to maintain constant contact with my skin, even around my chin and jawline. - The light ring at the top of the shaver changes color to let you know if you’re applying too much pressure or moving the shaver in the wrong direction. - The shaver is waterproof and can be used with gel, foam, and even in the shower. I usually prefer to use it in the shower since it makes cleanup a breeze. - Cleaning is extremely easy because the shaver heads lift open with the simple press of a button. You can run the shaver heads under running water or use the included brush. - The included charging case is nice and sturdy. There is room inside to hold the power cord and the precision trimmer head. - Likewise, the included charging stand is very nice and makes it very convenient to charge the shaver on my bathroom counter. === CONS === - You get a power cord in the box, but no power adapter — so you will need to provide your own USB-A power adapter in order to charge the shaver. This wouldn’t be a huge deal if the charger had a USB-C port for charging — I have tons of USB-C cables and power adapters sitting around. But unfortunately, the shaver uses a proprietary connector, so you are forced to use the included power cord, which has the proprietary connector on one end, and an outdated USB-A port on the other. - The shaver seems pretty slow to charge — it took about an hour to charge it from 0 to 100 percent, which seems like a long time for such a small device. Luckily, the battery lasts for about a full hour, which is plenty for multiple shave sessions. - There is a smartphone app which provides guidance while you shave and allows you to choose certain settings for the “Custom” mode of the shaver. It’s neat, but it’s also one of those gimmicky features. By the second or third day of owning the shaver, I stopped bringing my phone with me into the bathroom so I could use the app while shaving. And I’m definitely not going to use it if I shave in the shower. === OVERALL === The i9000 Prestige Ultra is an excellent shaver, but don’t buy it for the Bluetooth/app connectivity. That novelty wears off quickly, and the light ring on the shaver itself gives you all the information you truly need. Luckily, even without the app, this shaver delivers by far the best shave I’ve ever had with an electric shaver. Just be prepared to dig through your junk drawer for a spare USB-A charger to keep in the bathroom.

    Leveling up the S9000 Prestige

The Philps I9000 Prestige Ultra is one fancy shaver that has taken the Philips S9000 Prestige shaver that I have been using for the last few years (and I really love it) to the next level. It has a digital screen that you can cycle through to change shaver modes, and it also reminds you to run the shaver head under water to clean it, it shows the current battery level, about (of charges, runtime, # of shaves and firmware), turning on or off the Light Guidance, and travel lock activation. Speaking of the light guidance feature, this is a ring on the top of the shaver body that will change different colors depending on the amount of pressure (and can be set to include Motion as well) from the shaver head. Green is the optimal pressure, but it also illuminates yellow and blue. I haven’t been able to find the sweet spot in the limited amount of time that I have had it so far, but it is fun to try and keep it green. I do find that when the green light is on, the cut is still really good, and my skin is smooth as can be. Norelco really has a great shaver with this one and one of my favorite features of this model over my previous S9000 model is when it comes to clean it, I can now just press the button on the head to pop up the blades from the bottom and is flips up on a hinge, my previous model I had to pull the shaver blades off by pulling on them. This also comes with a stand so you can display your shave with pride and also charge it at the same time if you need to, but after 8 shaves so far, the battery is at 88% and when I charged it initially from the box, it charged very quickly. However, here is my only main complaint about this, the charger seems to be unique to this model, whereas I have always been able to use my latest charger with all of my previous Norelco shavers. Also, you are only given a USB Type A charging cable and no power brick. This seems to be the way Philips/Norelco does things these days since even the toothbrushes come with a USB Type A cable now. Not a big deal but at this price point, they should have included a full charging option w/o you having to find one of your old phone chargers to use for this. I did find a way to scan the QR code in the blue shaver booklet and it leads you to a USB Adapter link where it seems to can order a Splashproof adapter for your device, but I was not able to complete the request so perhaps it will be a feature offered later on down the road. Registering this with Philips/Norelco will get you a 7-year warranty (according to their website) so be sure to do that so you can rest assured for the next 7 years and from my personal experience with this company, they are very good to work with on warranty issues.

Handled my post sickness beard like a champ!

If you're like me and your beard and mustache gets out of control while our down and out from some sort of sickness, and you hate shaving afterwards because it's just long enough to be a pain for most electrics, and you don't wanna end up using a razor because you will knick yourself no matter what you do to prevent it, then this may be a good option for you. I was sick for about three days, and I didn't do anything during that time, my beard grew just to the point where my current electric is not a good choice, used this Philips shaver and it actually was able to shave my face pretty good. I had it set to slower motion, and medium pressure, and it kept glowing yellow because I was apparently pressing down too hard, but it was at the right pressure for me for that situation. The day after when I was doing a regular shave it was a lot easier to maintain the 'optimal' pressure. But I will say it's more of a hassle than a feature from my perspective. Cleaning is really easy, it just pops open and voila, rinse it off and you're good to go. For the actual shave quality, it's good. Like I mentioned earlier it took out my just long enough to be longer than recommended for most electric razors without a problem. Well it did pull my hairs more than I'd like, but it did remove the hairs. The apps are pretty well designed too, but it's really a marketing agent more so than a companion app for the razor. It does have some useful features like mode switching and things like that. As for the razor itself, it's very well made, however I don't know if I personally liked the three blade design. It probably will take some getting used to, but it felt like I had to rotate it a lot to get areas of my face rather than just keeping it in my hand. Which makes me believe that there will be uneven wear and tear on the blades. Overall though I'm really happy with it, nice gimmicky perks like the lighting during charging, and a pretty good overall package for shaving. I would recommend it.

    Better than S9000 Prestige

I bought S9000 Prestige directly from Philips almost one month ago and really liked it. After seeing this new version, I returned my original S9000 Prestige. This i9000 Prestige Ultra is much better in my opinion. The pressure sensor feature is amazing. The app keeps track of the Blade wear and tear plus the number of days remaining for the cleaning cartridge. It does not come with a cleaning cartridge so I had to buy it separately. I am using the same quick clean pod amd cartridge as S9000 Prestige. It works and cleans flawlessly. I also feel this new version provides a much better and close shave than S9000. Plus this new version is more silent. I would highly recommend.

    Great Shave with Technicak Issues

I had trouble with the shaver. It took two weeks for it to pair with GroomTribe. When I registered it via GroomTribe, the serial number was absent. The change cartridge icon came up after every shave. I did not get an extebded warranty. Unfortunately, i did not retain the box and packaging stuff, so i coujd not return it. Norekco was not helpful. It Proved easiest to discard the shaver and order a different model in the i9000 Prestige Ultra from Amazon. I think i just had a defective one. It gave a great shave and from that viewpoint i would recommend it.

As a commercial pilot, shaving is part of my daily routine. Coming from hand razors, this shaver had cut down my shaving time from about 10 minutes to 1.5 minutes. With sensitive skin, I hadn’t transitioned to a shaver because I worried avout sensitivity but this shaver has been like a dream. It’s asthetically pleasing, easy to use, and gets me a razor like shave in blazing fast time. Excellent product overall. Truly a spend once product.
