good razor for the money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.first off, let me start by saying that I received this razor as part of the Best Buy tech insider network in exchange for my personal opinion. I will start off with what I think are the positives about this razor. The razor shaves very close. I have been using an older Philips arcitec for a number of years and this razor equals that older model in shaving closeness. i also like the flip open blades on the newer philips 5550. Ergonomics are good and the razor goes to a full charge in about 1 hour. I fully charged the razor when I received it and have used it every morning for over a week and the indicator still says it is at nearly full charge. This razor is also water proof. Now the things I don't like. First, I would like to have seen this razor come with a stand/charger instead of just a cord. I think the stand adds a bit of style to a razor sitting on the counter. This razor also comes with a turbo mode to increase the speed of the blades. it is my opinion that the faster speed should be the default/only speed. The two speed option seems more a gimmick. The power button and turbo buttons are large and are exactly where I like to rest my thumb when I am shaving. For some people this might not be an issue, but I have turned the razor off more than once while shaving only because that is where my thumb wants to be. This razor also has a separate trimmer that attaches where the shaving head is, so the two have to be swapped. I would prefer to have a pop out trimmer that didn't require me to swap the heads. Seems the negatives to me outweigh the positives, but that might not be the same for you. This razor has a long lasting battery, shaves very close and has a good feel. I think it is a quality shaver, just not what I had hoped for in some areas.

Solid build, good feel
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This shaver has a great feel to it, and the design and construction are really solid. It is really comfortable to hold it. I love that it comes with a beard trimmer attachment, too, so it can take care of shaping sideburns etc and it can mow down your face if you have some significant beard growth before you shave. However, this is my first time with an electric razor. Everything I read says that I'll have to keep using it for a couple of weeks to make sure that my skin is used to it, so it is doing a good job and it sounds like it will continue to get better over time. Read the instructions! It would be nice it if came with a travel bag, but it does have a cap that goes over the blades, so I can throw it in my toiletry kit when traveling. This is a good one, I recommend it.

Great razor with a unique trimmer!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used electric razors for many years, and the #1 reason they break is the integrated trimmer head! I don't care of it's a foil or rotary razor if the trimmer head was "spring loaded" it eventually broke or the floating head lockout broke. This razor has 2 separate detachable cutting heads. Either the rotary head is on or the trimming head as 2 separate units. The razor charges fast and holds a charge. An additional plus is that there's a power boost button when you hit a rough patch of beard! The only thing lacking is a travel case, which I found out since they're less expensive models include one. It also has a light that activates when it's time to clean the razor which is nice!

CLOSE, SMOOTH & QUICK SHAVE!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a Great Cordless Electric Shaver! This is a WET or DRY Use Shaver That You Can Use Dry OR With Water OR even With Shave Gels or Foams! Also Very Easy To Clean With A One-Touch Open and Then You Can Simply Rinse Under Running Water! This Shaver Takes About An Hour For A Full Charge Which Will Then Give You Up To 60 Minutes Of Shave Time. BUT A "Quick-Charge" May Also Be Done In 5 Minutes Which Will Provide You Enough Charge For 1 Good Shave! *The Shaver Does Have An Indicator Light That Tells You When It Is Time For A Charge. The Shaver Comes With A Protective Cap, Charging Cord & Instruction Manual BUT More Importantly, It Also Comes With A Click-On Precision Trimmer!! Norelco Dubbs This As "Smart-Click" . I Can Say That This Trimmer Is Easy To Use And Worked Very Well On My Moustache, My Sideburns and Around My Ears As Well. The Main Shaver Head Has 3 Rotary Heads That Pivot (or Flex) In 5 Different Directions Which Really Made It Very Smooth and Easy To Go Around My Chin, Neck & Jaw Line. Very Comfortable At That. A Couple Of Other Features Include A Turbo Mode That Provides An Extra 20% Power Boost For Quicker Shaves and/or For Areas That Have Thicker Hair. I'm Sure Turbo Mode Will Have A Little Faster Wear On The Battery Charge, But With 60 Minutes Available On A Full Charge, I'm Sure This Won't Be An Issue For Anyone. There Is Also A Lock Switch On The Shaver So That It Doesn't Accidentally Power On While Packed Up During Your Travels. Cool Bottom Line For Me Is This Is A Really Great Shaver and Has Provided Me Great Smooth Comfortable Shaves Already. I'd Recommend

Exceeds Expectations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a wet shave with this shaver using a high end shave cream and it was a real good shave. Usually when I use electric razors I have to shave again with a safety razor, this was not the case. I will be using this shaver daily. The only reason I didn't give this an excellent rating was that it was tricky shaving around my goatee with this razor.

Good Shaver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a pretty good shaver for me. I don't shave everyday, so the charge will last me a week or more before needing to be recharged. The fast charge feature is great. Shave quality - for me, it does a decent job. It took me a while to get used to it coming from a traditional 5 bladed razor. At first it caused a little skin irritation on my neck, but after using it for about 3 weeks, that doesn't happen anymore. It's pretty easy to use, but if you're coming from a traditional razor, you have to get used to how it works. It's very easy to clean, just open up the shaver head and rinse. Since it's a wet/dry shaver, you could use it in the shower, or you could use it with shave gel or foam if it irritates your skin too much. I haven't used it in either of these ways as of yet. It has a "travel lock" which helps avoid it accidentally being turned on inside your luggage. The flex heads work well to allow you to get every area. Prior electric shavers I've used had a pop-up trimmer for getting sideburns, etc, trimmed. This one, the head detaches easily and the trimmer is a separate unit. It works well, but it didn't come with a storage bag for the razor/trimmer, so it could get lost pretty easily. Overall, this is a good shaver for me. It's convenient and in the long run will save money on the traditional razor refills. If you're looking for a quality electric razor, I'd give this one a shot. Make sure you use it exclusively for 2-3 weeks to give your beard and skin time to adjust.

Takes three weeks to work efficiently
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Philips Shaver 5550 S5590/81- There is no way to fully critique this shaver after using it for a few times. Upon reading the instruction manual, it states that there is a twenty-one day trial and conversion process necessary for my skin to adjust to the new shaver. It also states that not getting a close shave at first is part of the process of the adjustment period. Also, it states longer hair should be trimmed first, before using the shaver. So a pair of scissors was needed to trim my beard a little bit. With that being said, I dry shaved my beard, neck and facial areas. The manual’s statements were totally accurate, with respect to smoothness of the shaver’s final outcome. The skin does become a little irritated with redness and the initial shaves are not that smooth. It works as a shaver should, but when I run my hand across the shaved areas at different angles I can feel unseen hair. The power of the shaver seems a bit weak and the full charge only last for one hour. After using the first day to shave on a full charge of three bars, the next day it was at two bars of power. I really cannot trash the shaver, because it takes three weeks of skin adjustment to truly critique the shaver. It does everything that the instruction manual claims it can do, the only discrepancy is the time necessary to assimilate to its use.

Philips Shaver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Phillips razor works well with just water or shaving cream/gel. I personally shave with a manual razor on Monday, and then use the electric razor Tuesday through Friday, and for that it works excellently. You get a ton of coverage so it doesn’t take long at all to shave. The turbo mode isn’t even really necessary. The trimmer head is nice for trimming your neck and sideburns precisely. Overall would recommend.

Nice Shaver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a good wet/dry shaver, it does the job. It does charge quick and last long enough to do a complete face. My husband likes it, works better than other ones he used. Gives a good clean cut, nice and smooth.

Terrible electric shaver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because I thought it would make shaving fairly quick. Couldn’t be further from the truth. It takes three times as long than using a razor blade. Also, I’ve tried using that electric shave liquid. I’ve tried not not using anything. I cannot get a close shave no matter what I do. This was a complete waste of money.

Frustrating...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me say I am new to the Electric Razor so using this took a little time to learn. I can say even with a little trial and error I cannot use this product. I eventually completely gave up as it would not trim evenly or fully. It would miss spots and I would go back over those to no avail. Took more time with this than a conventional razor would have by far. Im sorry but this product did not come close to working for me and a razor is 10x better. I cannot recommend this at all...
