Almost Perfect, But....
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box, the Philips Avance Smokeless Indoor Grill impresses you with quality build and simplicity. there are only 3 parts. The main unit, the cooking grid and the slide out drip tray. You can take it out of the box and be ready to grill almost immediately. It is easily large enough to cook for a family of 4 but not so large that you wouldn't want in in your kitchen. The power switch has 2 settings, full power and keep warm. Full power heats to 446 degrees and maintains that exact temperature throughout the cooking process and provides even heat all over the cooking surface. There is an instruction booklet which also provides suggested cooking times and is very easy to follow. There is also a suggested warm up time of 6 minutes prior to placing your food on the grill. So far, I have cooked salmon and steak. Both cooked perfectly with a crunchy sear on the outside and juicy perfection on the inside. To clean you must wait at least 30 minutes for everything to cool down. I found the cooking grid and the slide out drip tray to be extraordinarily easy and fast to clean. However, the interior walls are very difficult to clean. The instruction booklet will tell you to just wipe with a damp cloth. That didn't work. I then tried Dishwashing detergent with hot water, nope. I finally had to use a ceramic cleaner with a lot of elbow grease to get it clean. And, this why I deducted 1 star. Pros: Easy to set up and use. Grills food perfectly Cons: Very difficult and time consuming to clean interior walls

Interesting Alternative to Outdoor Grilling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Philips indoor grill offers an interesting proposition, indoor electric grilling for presumably when weather or space does not cooperate. The question though is, does the grill perform well enough to be worth using, both by itself when an outdoor grill is completely not an option or as an alternative when fuel or weather prevent use of your outdoor? The short answer, mostly yes! The grill is a pretty simple affair. Easy setup and cleaning, simple controls, and muted looks. You won't feel like there's some device masquerading as something more complex or interesting than it is sitting in your kitchen. Once it heats up, 6-7 minutes which is pretty similar to outdoor grill times, it provides a very steady and uniform heat. It's quite amazing just how even things cook on the surface. The only setup issue is the comically short power cord. I suppose this is meant to sit where someone might normally have a microwave or toaster oven on their counter top. While it's certainly useful enough to deserve such space, the fact is most people will already have that taken up by another device. The cabling should allow for non-permanent placement in an otherwise normally stocked kitchen. Grilling meat and some veggies went well. It would be nice, to have a mesh grill top for smaller items. I'll need to investigate whether outdoor grill accessories will work well with this. The biggest issues, aside from the short cabling, is the effect of the light from heating elements. Typically, when grilling, one relies on either temperature, look/doneness, time, or some combination of the three to determine when to check items or remove them from heat. Here, the light from the heating elements give a weird cast that makes it hard to rely on how something looks, to tell how it's cooked. As a result, you'll definitely need to stick with the timer or temperature approach. It's not a deal breaker, but it does make this slightly less convenient than expected. In all, I think this makes a good buy. For many cooks, the holy grail is something that puts out even consistent heat. This does that in a package that fits well in most kitchens. I anticipate making use of this for winter grilling or as an accessory grill for outdoor events.

The indoor grill to get. Does not disappoint.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Why did I not have this sooner? It is a great product and very easy to use. We used it to make pork chops and hot dogs. The whole family loved it. The grill is very easy to get going, wait 6 minutes, and you are ready. The food tasted great and it is very easy to clean. The packaging was great and the instructions while in several languages were straight forward. The best feature is it was virtually smokeless. An indoor grill that does not smoke up your house. We are so excited to make more food with this grill. If you grill then there should be no other choice. Very happy.

Great for indoor Grilling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic little grill. Pros: Smokeless Heats up quickly Juicier meat Produces grill marks – I was pleasantly surprised because my Infrared gas grill does not Easy clean up Cons: (for some people maybe) Small grilling space if you have a large family - (Figure about 3 burgers) Takes up a lot of room in pantry / difficult to store (I know they kind of contradict each other ;-) ) I have used it for hot dogs, chicken breasts, burgers and steak. Wisconsin winters won’t keep me from grilling ! I would definitely recommend this product

Exceptional Cooking Experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little skeptical about the claims of no smoke filling up my home/kitchen. I am now a believer. I've grilled a couple of times on this grill and was surprised by the way it cooked. I grilled hot dogs the other day and the dogs immediately started sizzling and had really nice grill marks. The food turned out delicious and fully cooked. Heating is fast and so is the cooking experience. Please be aware that the grill heating element is extremely bright and will light up the room. I highly recommend

Nice little grill, niche usage potential
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the grill is very nice. Nice sturdy construction, nice metal cooking grates with stay cool handles. You can have the grill out of the box and cooking food in about 5 mins (after wiping down the cooking surfaces of course.) Heats up very fast, but does have a limited temperature limit as expected. It took about 5 mins for the grill to heat to a temp capable of cooking hot dogs, and maybe 10 mins for burgers (to get the metal grill hot enough.) Cooking time seemed a bit longer than expected, but once done the food was just fine. All of the grease drips away into the bottom pan which then simply slides right out for super fast cleaning. It also has a Stay Warm setting, so if you're done cooking but need to let the food sit for a bit, you can keep a steady warm heat underneath. And as advertised, little to no smoke at all, which makes it perfect for indoors. So it makes this grill perfect for winter months, or maybe apartment or condo owners. Even would be great as a tailgate grill if your car has an outlet or can power an extension cord. Simply plug this thing in and you're good to go.

Grilling in the AC!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't ever considered an item such as this as I always just cooked outside on the grill. This item, however, has changed that for me and gotten me out of the heat and into the AC! The box was good and sturdy with no damage. There was virtually no assembly, and we had it up and running in no time. A once over of the Owner's Manual made sure we were doing everything correctly. We plugged it in and let it run to make sure any manufacturing oils/other unseen things were burnt off. Wow, this thing is bright and hot! We also found our first shortcoming as this thing pulls lots of juice. We tripped the circuit breaker twice as we were trying to make fries in a fryer on the same circuit. After stopping the fryer we had no additional problems. It truly is smoke free as we made several burgers with little to no smoke. All the drippings fall to a small pan at the bottom (which is easy to pull out and clean) away from the heating lights. The burgers cooked quickly with little mess. Afterwards, the grill top is easily removed for cleaning (and the grill is non-stick) and everything else just needed a quick wipe down. We haven't tried steaks yet, as we wanted to test with what we thought would be messiest. All in all, this is a great addition to our kitchen and will be used often. If you like a grill but hate the heat or clean up, you should seriously consider this item. It is well worth it's price! Good shopping!

I love it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is really solid. It has that grilled taste with the comfort of cooking inside. I cooked chops and chicken and it cooked the insides to perfection. It had virtually no smoke. It was easy clean up as it has a bottom tray you can pull out and clean. This definitely has replaced my old Foreman grill. It cooks with infrared technology to perfection!

It works!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing I thought it would be bigger than it is. It’s perfect for a dinner for 4. I love that it’s indoor just in case it’s raining and you can’t go outside and use your grill or maybe you live in an apartment and can’t have an outdoor grill. It’s easy clean up, I did have minimal smoke I was making chicken breasts. It cooked throughly and was a decent grilled taste, definitely not like putting it on a outdoor grill but it will do for those times you don’t want to use your outdoor grill. I really liked grilling vegetables on it. I say if your planning a big grilling meal still use a outdoor grill because this can only hold so much. Definitely recommend to someone who doesn’t have an area for a outdoor grill, this will do the job. I think for me for the foods I definitely want that authentic grill taste I will continue to use an outdoor grill and for quick grilled meals and veggies I will use this indoor grill. It’s a great buy.

Same results indoors!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This grill is phenomenal. It produces the same results as a regular grill—except of course, if you are looking for that charcoal flavor. It hardly emits any smoke. I just place it on my regular stove in my apartment so I can have the stove exhaust seep away any smoke that comes out--- even if there’s hardly any! The grill itself and the pan under is easy to clean and store. Maybe my only complaint is the sides where the heat emits from—the glass. It gets stained easily and it needs some TLC to keep it tidy. IT’s a must for everyone who loves to grill—especially those without outdoor areas to grill!

Smokeless is Legit! Lets me grill year round!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was dubious at first with the claims of being smokeless and for use indoors, but they're not kidding! It took a little getting used to the fact that I couldn't adjust the temperature - once I Started to treat it like a medium-high gas grill all the time, my results improved. That means you have to be careful what kind of liquids/butter/oils end up on the grilling surfaces (that might negate the smokeless part) but the end result is so similar to a bbq grilled meal it's stunning. I wish the grill size was just a little larger, but the size is perfectly suited to storage and being an indoor appliance. Between the removable surface and the lower drip tray, Philips makes this thing easy to clean. I foresee using this to have grilled food well into the winter months when I cannot/will not use my outdoor gas grill.

A true indoor grilling experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very impressed with the Phillips Avance Collection Indoor Grill and readily recommend it to anyone looking for a great answer to getting the true outdoor grilling experience indoors with minimal smoke. This unit represents a significant improvement over pther electric stand-alone and stove-top grill pans I've tried in the past. It separates grease from the food on the grill into a grease tray like other clamshell grills on the market, but with the experience similar to cooking on an open grill. It is very easy to clean - even more so with a quick spritz of cooking spray on the grill and drip tray before starting your cooking session - and easy to use. This is a perfect solution to grilling indoors that I am confident will become a key appliance in any kitchen. It is no wonder that it is already winning recognition for its design excellence!

Cooking Indoors
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you can not grill out year round this is a great indoor cooker that makes it close to outdoor grilling when needed. Heats up fast, you can barley see any smoke even if grilling a fattier meat. Cleaning the removable parts is very simple however cleaning the inside walls is impossible to make look new.

Indoor grilling perfection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love to BBQ all summer long and have been known to BBQ even in the winter months. Going outside in the cold was never pleasant. THIS is the solution. Now I can grill all year long, there is minimal smoke that is produced, any grease falls into a pan below which reduces the likelihood for smoke AND makes cooking with the Avance a healthy choice. Easy fast clean up and great tasting grilled food all year long make this a must have in the kitchen.

great grill
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.love this grill. as far as smoke, its mainly smokeless as far as what a charcoal grill would normally put out. you still will get some smoke off the food. it is a lot less smoke then even frying in a pan though. it does produce some heat but only for the grill and above. the sides of it stay cool. make sure to follow directions and like turn knob to the warm position first for a couple seconds and then on and let it warm up for about 6 min. I live in a apt and cant have a grill, I can have charcoal but cant use it on the property, so this is great. I have been using it just on my counter. being electric I could also run an extension cord and go outside with it. it is small but I can get burgers on it. the ones from Walmart that come in the box. and those are pretty round burgers. as they shrink can put another one or 2 on or some dogs. it does not have the same taste as a grill would as far as when you use charcoal. its similar to using propane. but you also don't have the taste from the propane that you can get either. its a great addition to owning grills, and great for those who are like me and cant use a charcoal or propane grill, if its raining and need to be indoors or if you want to grill but don't have charcoal. it only has 3 choices for heat, off, warm or on. and it does the whole thing so you cant have half for warm and the other half for on. I hope they come out with a bigger one that has that option or possibly an option to adjust heat. but for a smaller grill not needed. does leave grill marks as well. like I said, let it get warm first. I did not know what to expect and overall I am very satisfied.

Decent option for simple indoor grilling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Philips indoor grill is a decent option for simple indoor grilling. I was generally pleased by the results of the food I grilled during my testing. [ Pros ] - The infrared lamps leave meat more tender than fire grills do. - The infrared lamps provide more consistent heating for a smooth grilling experience, lacking the hot/cold zones and flare-ups of fire grills. - Angled placement of the infrared lamps reduces smoke generated from grilling. - Cleanup is simple, aided by light-weight non-stick grill grid and removable drip tray. - Good size for grilling on a counter-top. [ Cons ] - The infrared lamps produce blinding red light that, thanks to their angled placement, get direct access to your eyes when you stand near the grill. This made it difficult to monitor the food I was grilling during my testing. - Lack of temperature control reduces grilling flexibility. I wasn’t able to control searing/charring as much I would have liked. - The reflector surfaces seem very prone to permanent damage. No amount of dish liquid or scrubbing was able to remove the grease burn spots generated by each grilling session. Presumably, the build-up of these spots will reduce the effectiveness of the lamps over time. - The handles on the grill grid do not provide sufficient insulation for bare-handed handling while the grid is still hot.
