Great Indoor Grill

I was happily surprised after using this grill that it worked exactly as advertised. When I first opened the box and set up the grill which by the way was incredibly easy it really is just two pieces you put into place, I thought that there was no way this was going to produce less smoke.
But after using it this past weekend and cooking several types of meats on it. I was shocked to how well the grill cooked the meat just using light and how little smoke was ever produced.
It is very easy to clean and very portable at the same time large enough to make a good amount of food. My only gripe is that because the lights it uses are so powerful it can be hard to tell how cooked the food is and you either have to use a bright light, a thermometer, or just take the food off the grill to check it.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a grill and lives in a apartment or just doesn't want to cook outside.

The grill arrived on the same day that I came home with two ribeye steaks and a bunch of zucchini. My husband, always a sucker for a new gadget, immediately put the grill together (which means that it's so easy that a 2 year old could do it), and dropped the ribeyes and the zucchini on it and came up with a very flavorful meal. I don't know if I can say that I wouldn't have rather had the ribeyes charcoal grilled or pellet grilled, but I can say that if I can't use one of my outdoor grills, this one will do nicely. The zucchinis, by the way, came out well, too. And cleanup was a snap.

Really cool if you can't use a real grill

We live in a 2nd floor condo and aren't able to have a "real" grill on our balcony. We've wanted something to emulate one for a while. This does a pretty decent job at that.
The cooking surface is kind of small compared to an outdoor grill, but it's a kitchen appliance so I can't imagine it getting any bigger. It was tough enough to find a storage spot for the entire grill as it's pretty large. You can cook 2 steaks on it comfortably.
You don't have a lot of control over temperature and there isn't a meter anywhere to know how hot it really is. Controls are minimal and easy to use. It's a single dial with an "off" position and then a low and high. It's super easy to tell which setting you're on as this thing is BRIGHT! Seriously, don't stare directly into the grill when you turn it on. And make sure the grill is in place. I can't imagine how bright thing thing is without the grill obstructing some of the light. The low setting is bright and then the high setting is BRIGHT. There is no "not bright" setting. So far, I've only really used the high setting to cook a couple of steaks. And then we tried to cook some brats on the low setting but they weren't really cooking at all so we turned it up to high. Both turned out really well. The brats we a lot better than the water bath version we usually do. The steaks were really good and beat out the "Griddler" that we usually use to cook things.
Cleanup is pretty nice and simple. The bottom tray comes out pretty easy to clean up the drips and such and the top grill isn't attached to anything (just lays over the top) so it's super easy to remove and wipe down or wash. You're told not to submerge the actual unit in water (obvious reasons here) but I haven't noticed it getting very dirty and it's just plastic on the outside that's pretty easy to wipe down.
Which, speaking of plastic, I was pretty surprised by how cool the main plastic stayed. The harder plastic that's right next to the grill top gets a little hot but the plastic all around the unit stays really cool for the amount of heat the grill throws out when you have it on. You almost immediately feel the heat when your turn it on.
Overall. Highly recommended if you can't use a real outdoor grill for whatever reason. I'd probably still go with an outdoor grill if I was able to use one, but even if I had an outdoor grill, I think I'd still use this on occasion as it has been really easy to setup and tear down (which, sometimes, can be a hassle with an outdoor grill). So I guess I'd recommend this to anyone!

I have mixed feelings about this, thought it'd be cool to be able to grill indoors in winter or if it rains but the list of "do nots" had me almost paranoid to use it. First the infrared light tells you not to look at it, well you have to to cook your food, so I wore sunglasses, it is very bright! Next don't put under a cabinet, well my counter space is small & I had it away from cabinets but they were very warm, so I was waiting for them to ignite. Don't put near a stove still or working. I made chicken & vegetables from their recipe book, the chicken was dry & I only cooked it as per directions. I cut the vegetables large like they said & half of them fell through the grates into the bottom. They took a long time to cook. Cleaning was easy, the tray slides out so you can clean it. The inside changed color after first use. It only smoked a little too, nothing like the George Forman grill smoked, plus it's a lot larger. Might give it another try but think I'll take it outside , which defeats the whole purpose.

The Philips - Avance Collection Indoor Electric Grill is a convenient way to grille indoors all year round. It's pretty basic, lightly constructed and quick heat up.
We tried a bunch of different food stuffs on this grille, from fish to burgers to a vegetable medley wrapped in foil and everything came out decently cooked. The design does in fact do what it says dramatically reducing grease splatter in the cooking area although there is no down-draft fan to aid in this performance. Cooking area provides an nice, even environment and cleans up easily.
All this said, the unit feels cheaply constructed and is very light.
Even the control knob as a low-budget feel/action to it.
The lightweight construction may be a huge advantage to some who struggle with heavier kitchen appliances - but to us - it feels like a cheap Walmart toaster - and as such - should be much lower in price.
For thirty dollars, this would be a easy recommendation but there's really nothing fancy about his grille. We expected much more from this widget.

I wouldn't consider this a replacement for my full-size grill on my patio, but it cooked a burger up decently and left grill marks on it. I will probably use this when I can't use my big grill, such as when it's pouring down rain or covered in snow (Ohio weather...).

I've had the Philips Avance grill for a few days now and really like it so far. Assemble the parts (a snap), wash the grill, and it is ready to use. Because there are is no flame or hot coals to be concerned about, safety issues are minimized. To cook, use warming setting for a couple of minutes, switch it to "on," then load it up with whatever you plan to grill. I put 4 pork loin "steaks" on, and there was room to spare on the grill surface. Following the suggested cook time shown in the accompanying instructions, the result was very tasty. The infrared cooking process works well. Smoke was minimal, and any drip was caught in the pan (easily removable for cleaning) underneath the grill. Yes, the food may not have the same grilled flavor as from an outdoor grill, but it is the very best of any other electric grills I have tried. Clean up is easy, though not quite as easy as the promo materials imply.
I expect to get a lot of use out of this very nice grill, and the only problem that I have so far is figuring out where I will store it when it's not in use. I'd definitely recommend the Philips Avance grill.

This is a hot product

This thing is fantastic. My rating is a 4.5 rounded up. The only real reason for the half point drop is the severe brightness of the device. I was not expecting it when I turned it on, and it felt like someone turning on every light in a pitch dark room. The brightness doesn't go away, but it's quick to get used to.
I did also have a bit of smoke (enough to set off a smoke detector), but according to the included instructions, it does warn against extended use and frequent switching of food types. It also mentions that some foods are more likely to produce small amounts of smoke while others are virtually smokeless.
I will say, I had been grilling for a good amount of time, and did switch to a smokier meat, when it finally did start smoking. At that point, I just turned on my exhaust fan over the stove and never had another issue with it.
But the quality of the grill is fantastic. As was the food cooked on it. It help keeps the juices in the meat where they belong, and provides a nice, even, thorough cook. This product is definitely worth it.

Nice grill, cooks well. A little pricey but seems well made. Good for grilling when the weather is bad or too cold outside. Also good for apartments.

So the biggest thing that I like about this grill is that it is just a great companion to any kitchen setup. If I have any complaint about it then it's that it seems like it is more positioned towards making nicer meals than for someone who makes more quick meals. That being said it's really nice that they do include a great set of recipes with the grill so if you're looking for ideas it definitely brings them. The grill itself is really well built and holds up great. It definitely looks and feels premium. I can't say it made me an amazing chef; I'm college student age and not, but it definitely has the potential to cook some amazing healthy meals with both vegetables and various meat. Also I recommend pineapple if you're using any chicken. Overall if you're wanting to do some smaller scale grilling inside that's what I really like this grill for.
