Boy was I excited to get this Philips Viva Collection Soupmaker! Although cooking soup the “old fashioned way” in a pot on the stovetop seems like a no-brainer, once you get the gist of what this small kitchen appliance can do, you’ll be wanting to make soup every day, like me. The ease of using this soup maker goes beyond mere convenience. After preparing all the necessary ingredients for your soup recipe, you simply add them into the “thermos-style” container. The machine literally does all the work of cooking, for you. No need to keep checking, stirring, adjusting heat settings or time. Just select one of the six preset cooking programs for whatever type of soup you’re making, and ... wait. Then, enjoy! I almost felt like a master chef after I created my first delicious homemade soup - Italian Zucchini Soup. Yum! The second soup I made was - Chicken Pot Pie Soup. Both of these I’d never made before, and they turned out better than I could have hoped. And this clever little machine doesn’t just make soups, either. With it, you can create desserts and drinks such as smoothies, compotes and even, hot chocolate. Delish! The Philips Viva Collection Soupmaker is really super easy to use. What’s nice about this small kitchen appliance, is that if you have children and they like to help you cook, this soup maker is the perfect way to include them in the preparation of ingredients and putting them into the soup maker, then pushing the button to begin cooking. Children will surely enjoy having “made soup.” Remember to take care handling the soup maker after it has finished cooking your soup. The exterior can feel quite warm to the touch, and be mindful when removing the lid, to allow for steam to escape. Cleanup goes smoothly, as long as you clean the appliance after it cools down, using a non-abrasive sponge. *Please do read the User Manual for those Important Safeguards, Cautions, Usage Tips, Cleaning Instructions, etc. A really nice extra included with the soup maker was a fully illustrated cookbook, which not only has the recipes explained in English, but French and Spanish, as well. The convenience of this Philips Viva Collection Soupmaker is just one reason why I like using this appliance. Besides that, it is quite simply fun. Being able to create fresh, tasty, homemade soups (and other dishes) makes spending time in the kitchen cooking, enjoyable.

    Ideal For Soup Lovers

The Philips Soup Maker is perfect for those who love soup, but don’t have the time for all the hassle involved in making it. This unit makes hot or cold soup with such ease and seems so much easier and cleaner than making it on the stove. This soup maker is true to the saying “set it and forget it”. You can also make smoothies with this. Description: This soup maker will make 1.3 quarts of soup. I would say about 2 large size soup mugs or 4 smaller size cups of soup. When making soup, the ingredients should not go above the Max line or below the Min line located inside the stainless steel jug. It has an overflow sensor alarm in case you put too much in the base which is a nice feature. The alarm lets you know that you have to remove some of the ingredients from the base before restarting. An alarm will go off when the soup is finished. If you leave it, it will stay warm for about 15 - 20 minutes. I love HOT soup and this delivers. It is not quite hot enough to burn my mouth, but fresh out of the jug you will need to let it sit for a few minutes or take spoon it from the sides until it cools down a bit. This is the perfect temperature for me. The actual unit comes in 3 pieces: TOP: The top has a small hand grip to lift it from or place it back in the base. The top holds the motor unit within it toward the top of the shaft which holds the sharp Z blade that is at the bottom of the shaft for blending/mixing. The top also has the control panel with different program settings (puree soup, chunky soup, milk based soup, compote program, cold soup/smoothie and manual blending in case you want to make the soup finer). It also has a selection button so that you can choose one of the programs I just listed. That is also where the Start/Stop button is located. When putting the top on the base, you need to be aware to put it on properly because they plug into each other. CORD: There is a power cord that connects toward the bottom of the base handle. The cord is fairly short, I believe to be used on a counter top. JUG/BASE: The jug has a long handle for pouring your soup or smoothie. SIZE: It is bigger than it looks on the internet. It is not huge, but approximately the size of a small blender. Accessories: This comes with a great little recipe book with some pretty simple recipes that you can follow or adjust to your taste with spices, additional vegetables, etc. I like to add my own flare to most recipes. It has a great instruction pamphlet. Recommendation: I am a true soup lover and highly recommend the Philips Soup Maker. I was always too lazy to make homemade soup and only wish I had had something like this years ago. Cooking time is between 18 – 35 minutes and I LOVE a hot cup of soup and this does just that. It will keep your soup hot.

Better to Make Soup in an Instant Pot

I bought one for myself and one as a Christmas gift. I just returned both. The recipes in the book that comes with it are OK. The Turkey Chili is by far the best. I tried a couple of my personal recipes and it just wasn't great. It's so much better, and tastier, to make soup in the Instant Pot. And then you can make a big batch to eat for a couple of days. I love my kitchen toys, but this is the first I've had to return. I would say this one is an easy skip.

SOUP MAKER Saves $’s From Garbage

The exterior of the PHILIPS HR2204 SOUP MAKER appears sleek but durable…and, it is! I was happy to find that the unit isn’t has heavy as it looks. The power cord is shorter than expected but; though not needed at the moment, I have enough heavy duty extensions in the house that afford a convenient solution. After the first use, you will get familiar with the icons on the control panel on top of the unit: The icon for PUREED SOUP I engaged to create a vegetable broth with a blend of veggies that I had on hand. Using the unit gave me the revelation that, when pressed to use vegetables that are near the end of their useful life, just dump them into the SOUP MAKER for a quick broth that can be frozen for future use. Just don’t dawdle, especially when you have the tool. Interestingly, any blender should have inspired that thought. Better late to evolve than never! LoL! For my next recipe, I rough cut a blend of veggies to use the CHUNKY SOUP icon. Just love that after adding liquid and spices, in 18 min I can return for delightfully satisfying meal that will stay warm for 40 min if I get hung up with other chores. I added flourishes for an additional flavor spin i.e. hemp seed, chopped ginger, slices of goat brie and chopped chives to reach for a bit more gastronomic ecstasy. And, since my favorite sugar free Knudsen cranberry sauce has been discontinued, I am now forced to make my own. Thankfully, this unit’s COMPOTE PROGRAM reduced a bag of fresh cranberries, stevia, vanilla, chopped ginger and cinnamon into a cranberry sauce more economical and more flavorful than the commercial. I have to kick myself again for not saving money earlier; but, it’s interesting how a new tool can shift your consciousness to a new level of “cuisine artistry”. Moreover, since I make a smoothie for breakfast every day, I now have the unit’s SMOOTHIE icon to make my usual smoothie or a frozen fruit bowl or an after dinner sorbet or soft serve sherbet topped with shredded coconut, cocao nibs and/or drizzled with tahini. Now, I don’t have to wait in line when the blender’s tied up. I stopped buying commercial ice creams and dairy products years ago when I learned that the stabilizers such as guar gum, carrageenan and the myriad of other additives were some of the key culprits behind my weight management problems. Now, I happily indulge in no-damage, blood type compatible frozen smoothies and desserts without the processed sugars and junk to keep the pounds off without deprivation diets. BTW, there is a discrepancy between the manual and the recipe book about the unit’s tolerance for frozen fruits and veggies. The latter says absolutely no frozen foods; but, the recipe book seems to allow frozen items. To err on the side of caution, I let my frozen fruits defrost a bit until I get a chance to consult with a Philips Customer Service Tech. Also, this unit has an icon for MANUAL BLENDING that allowed me to interrupt any of the pre-set programs. So, with first attempts, I easily made adjustments to my own recipes as well as to those in the unit’s recipe book, good for a nudge when stuck. The MAX/MIN fill line for liquids was a little hard to locate; but, I finally found it on the inside of the unit when the light illuminated the raised icon at the right angle. The picture of its location in the manual appears to point to the fill line as if it sits on the outside of the unit. Overall, the unit’s a quick clean-up and a wise buy for the fast and furious who need to be re-tooled for healthier diet. As noted, the SOUP MAKER makes the big play to save our produce dollars from the garbage disposal or the compost bin.

So with a new year beginning my goal is to eat healthier and what better way than to start off with fresh home made soups? This thing has came in handy so many times already with all of the frigid weather we've been having. It has 6 preset programs, those being pureed soup, chunky soup, cold soup, compote (if you're like me I had no idea what this is.. but it's a fruit based soup) , and smoothies as well. I'm no chef by any means so the 38 recipe color book included was added plus for me. It has a 1.2 liter capacity which for us equaled out to four small bowls or two big bowls of soup. I love how you just pour everything in, push button sit back and relax and in less than a half an hour everything's finished and ready to eat. One thing they promoted was it uses SoupPro technology ensuring soups come out with the same results each and every time also making cooking milk based soups with no problems. First one we tried and my all time favorite is cream of broccoli soup. Fresh home made soup just doesn't compare to soup in a can with all of that sodium added. It came out rich and creamy and so fresh. The only somewhat negative thing is clean up. With things not being detachable you have to be careful how you wash and clean everything up. It'd be nice if the internal canister came out and the blade and pole detached for easier clean up but still love this thing and would highly recommend it to others

    Makes great soups

This Phillips Viva product does just what’s intended. It makes a small batch of soup in an astoundingly short amount of time. We’ve made four different soups so far and all have been quite good. There’s a nice cookbook included, and so far our favorites have been the coconut shrimp puree and the turkey chili. In both cases, these take 18 minutes to cook. Milk-based soups require about 30 minutes. It also does smoothies and compotes, but we’re yet to test those functions. There are enough recipes to give you a good feel for making your own or adapting your favorites. As I said, the results have been quite tasty, and it’s great to have soup from fresh ingredients cooked up so quickly. You do have to make exactly the 1.3 quarts it’s designed to do. The minimum and maximum fill lines are less than an inch apart. That amount makes a hearty soup meal for two or a decent appetizer for four. Since it mixes or purees whatever ingredients you use as well as cooks them, even the “chunky” soups are diced fairly fine. It’s a soup maker, not a stew maker. It’s specialized and does what it’s intended for very well. My only complaint is that it’s a bit awkward to clean. Neither the top which has the blender/mixer component nor the bottom with the heating element can be immersed in water, but that's certainly not a deal breaker.

I've been eating a bit more soup lately, so this soupmaker seemed worth the investment. Quick and easy soup - sign me up. Well, it's not as quick and easy as I thought but is a bit less work than making soup stove top. Cleaning: Super easy to clean, but be careful not to submerge it in water. Ease of Use: Read the manual carefully. Do NOT trust the handy dandy icons on the sticker attached to the soupmaker. The pictures aligned with recipes in the little cookbook that came with the soupmaker. I thought Awesome, spare me the manual. Nope, the icon for the chunky soup in the picture was not the icon shown on the picture. Severe disappoint with my first round of soup that was pureed instead of chunky, but I have to admit it did puree it quite nicely. Just tasted disgusting. My wife pointed out there are icons on the pictures in the actual recipe book that properly align to the correct icons, so that will be super useful in the future. As long as you don't trust the sticker, you should be fine. Heating: Did a great job heating the soup to the appropriate temperature. Time: Here's where I struggled a bit (other than trusting the stupid sticker). It took a long time by my standard. It seems to me it would be much quicker to blend it in a blender and throw it in a pot on the stove, but then you're facing multiple things to wash vs. this super easy to clean soupmaker, so it's a bit of a toss up. If you got the time, I think this soupmaker could really come in handy especially if you're looking for one of the more pureed settings but otherwise you might be better sticking to just doing it the old-fashioned way.

    Fresh Soup Just For You

The Philips Soupmaker is a kitchen must if you enjoy eating soup from fresh ingredients. It is incredibly easy to use: just put the raw ingredients into the pourer container, select whether you want pureed soup, chunky soup, milk-based soup, compote (heating only) and cold soup and then press start. In 35 minutes or less you have fresh soup waiting for you. The soups came out just perfectly. You just can't buy canned soups that taste this good! This soup maker comes with a colorful 85-page recipe booklet to make your soup making perfectly easy. My only reservation is the cleaning process. There are only two parts to clean: (1) the pourer and the (2) mixer/controller. When your soups are completed, the parts have a heavy pureed coating that makes it difficult to clean, especially the sharp blade on the mixer. Even this complaint is negligible for what you get in return: fresh hot soup that it nutritionally good for you!

I made the best Chicken Noodle soup I've ever had in my life! (Sorry Mom) It made a pretty decent Leek soup as well. I followed the directions in the included booklet to make mushroom soup, and it was horrible... I also tried to make clam chowder in it, and I hit the milk based soup button because clam chowder has milk in it.. wrong choice! Out cam the most disgusting "Hot Clam Smoothie" I've ever tasted! I ended up feeding it to the stray cats in my backyard. Over all though it works and does what it says it will do, it just has a learning curve to figure out what recipes to use. My plan is to just use it to make chunky soups and Purees, because I can't afford to keep feeding my food to stray cats. It is pretty fast though, and it's nice to be able to load it up and let it stir itself while I do other things, but realistically I can use a crock pot, a normal pot, and a blender, all of which I already owned, to do the same thing this does. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend unless they don't already have the above mentioned kitchen appliances.

This is perfect for someone who lives alone and doesn't need to cook for more than one person. It's as dead simple as a kitchen device can be. Put in your ingredients, put on the top, select your mode, and let it sit and do its thing for 20-30 minutes. You'll have a hot and tasty soup. My only complaint is when it comes to cleaning. The instructions say rinse with hot water but you'll end up have to do a submergence cleaning to get it really clean.

I have never made soup before. I have never *considered* makng soup before. Then I stumbled upon the Philips Soup Maker, and everything changed. Soup is easy to mak, with a "set it and forget it" approach to making soups. It essentially works like a mix between a slow cooker, and a blender. Meaning you can make all kinds of soups (hot or cold), and you don't have to worry about burning anything. The included recipe book is easy to follow, and so far, the recipes are delicious. Once I have used it a bit more, I plan on making my own recipes, which will be exciting. I love soups because they tend to be healthy, but now, since I am at the helm, I can better control how many calories and what nitrients are added. I think this might also be a good use for some leftovers, especially veggies! This is the one piece of tech I had no idea I needed, but it will be used regularly from now on.

I'm really shocked at how much we like the Philips Viva 1.3qt Soupmaker. When I first brought up the idea of getting this soupmaker, my wife scoffed. Honestly, I scoffed a little, too. But we got it to try out, and we're both very glad we did. You can put a variety of raw ingredients in, push a button, walk away, and come back in under half an hour to perfect soup. It does a variety of styles and consistency. This is become a go-to now for quick lunch prep. Even if you are something of a casual soup fan, I encourage you to give it a try.

We have tried several soups so far and following the recipes in the booklet we found most needed to be tweaked. Some became to liquefied and were more a drink than a soup. Potato soup was unsuccessful. Maybe using instant instead of fresh would have worked. All in all once the recipes are tweaked the pot will work fine for small amounts(no more than 4 servings). If you're looking to make larger portions for a family I would not recommend this.

It definitely will make soup. You must follow the instructions closely. There is no wiggle room in the max and minimum marks on the canister. If you overfill it even a little bit, you will end up getting error messages. If you don't fill it enough barely below the minimum line, you will get an error message. Fill the pot according to the procedures/recipes exactly and you will have a wonderful soup in just a few minutes. I wish the markings were on the outside of the canister as well so it would be easier to tell.

I was very hopeful for this gadget, but unfortunately it did not live up to the expectations. It is relatively small and would be good for a person who lives by themselves that really likes soup. Below is a summary of the shortcomings of this device. 1. Seems to be a space taker item that would not be used often. 2. Cannot submerge in water 3. The soup was tasty but could have been made in a pot or crockpot just the same 4. Might be handy for a one person household if the person likes soup 5. The soup kettle is not dishwasher safe 6. Electrical cord is really short, maybe 15 inches long 7. The recipe book that comes with the soup maker states that you have to chop the pieces in certain sizes in order to put in maker. If you have to cut the pieces so small anyway, why not use a pot?! That way you can cook how much you would like and not worry about the max fill line on the soup maker.
