The moment that I heard that Freddie Gibbs and Madlib were going to do a project together, I knew that it was going to be legendary. I didn't hype it up, I just knew that it was going to work. I've been a Madlib fan for years and have always enjoyed his Beat Konducta series as well as "Madvillainy" album with underground legend, MF DOOM. I've been following Freddie Gibbs since 2010 (and even got the chance to meet him back then). He's definitely bringing back the street element into Rap music but unlike other rappers of that type, you can tell that Freddie respects the craft of lyricism and respects the culture. From start to finish, this album is incredible. Madlib's penchant for soulful and funky samples beautifully complements Freddie Gibbs' hood tales (A lot of those samples have been used before by other artists, so it's interesting to hear Madlib's take on popular samples). Features range from younger artists such as Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Meechy Darko, Mac Miller to veterans such as Scarface and Raekwon. If you're a fan of either artists, pick this album up. If you love Hip Hop, pick this album up.

Madlib the west coast producer has came back into Hop Hops spot light with another solid collaboration album. This time he has chosen to work with the Urban legend emcee from Gary Indiana named Freddie Gibbs. Gibbs depictions of gritty street life and his daily trials and tribulations come across as sincere on this album. This is a welcome change from Madlib' last collab Madvilliany, which featured emcee MF Doom. Madlib's sonic soundscape will head your head nod constant as Gangsta Gibbs gives it to you raw from intro to bonus tracks!!

"Pinata" is a dream collabo between two hip-hop titans operating in top form. Madlib's production is disjointed; rife with warped soul and comedy samples. Freddie Gibbs' (those not hip d-load free mixtapes "Baby Face Killa" /"Miseducation of...") spit is an amalgation of west coast gangsta with urgent, double time with a melody that recalls vintage Bone Thugs. If you enjoy super dope underground rap, buy this album.

At first glance the underground, eclectic beats that Madlib has been churning out for the last 20 years would seem to be an odd backdrop for the gangsta raps of Freddie Gibbs, but this is an overall solid album in both the rap and beats departments. At times it gets a bit monotonous, but overall a good listen for both fans of Gibbs and Madlib

Freddie and Madlib do not disappoint. Simply put this is one of the realest most grittiest records I've ever heard. This is easily my choice for album of the year. Its good to see Gibbs getting some much needed exposure.
