This receiver has amazing sound quality. I am a receiver junkie and have owned several receivers over the last few years. The LX-904 is the absolute best for sound quality. I have a 7.2.4 Atmos set up and the receiver drives my system with ease. Plenty of class D power. Never breaks a sweat. Never gets hot. Best Atmos integration of any receiver I have owned. The sound field is so dynamic and real. The MCACC calibration really works well in my house. It takes awhile to get through but it is really worth the time to do the advanced set up. This receiver replaced a Pioneer LX-801 that I used with an ATI 4003 amp driving the front three speakers. The LX-904 has better sound quality and I am not using the ATI amp. I’m sure the upgraded DACS and other internal components have a lot to do with it. Even two channel stereo is plain amazing. Crystal clear, amazing bass output. The bass output for surround is fantastic. It drives a pair of SVS SB 16 Ultra’s and they integrate perfectly with the receiver. No booming, just deep, throttling chest thumping bass that blends with the mid and high range frequencies superbly. It has all the bells and whistles that you expect from a flagship receiver, but when I spend this kind of money on a receiver I am spending it on the sound quality, and this receiver is the best sounding receiver I have owned in the last five years. I usually a buy a new receiver every year, but I will be keeping this for a long, long time. It simply has amazing sound quality. I can’t remember the last time I liked a receiver this much. Pioneer hit this one out of the park!

This was my first AVR purchase in 20 years! Replaced a Pioneer Elite VSX-37TX with additional Elite M10 amp that provided 2 decades of SurroundEX/DTS-ES (6.1) excellence with this beast. First impression was “awesome” when I plugged everything up and completed the MCACC Pro calibration (which corrected several speaker phase issues I didn’t know I had!). Movie music and effects are much more full and I feel like I’m sitting at the center of my own recording studio. In addition, sound effects are more precise and truly travel throughout the room in all directions. A great receiver that will hopefully keep me satisfied for another 20! Used in a 7.1.4 Atmos config (7.1 layout plus 4 in-ceiling speakers.). Another great product and service purchase from Best Buy!

7.2.4 Atmos set up is best. The sound is awesome and the mcacc pro calibration is precise for movies and music great receiver.

This is a great home theater receiver. I owned many others over the years but this is the Mac Daddy of them all. Great for music and movies. Paired up with my Definitive Technology speakers and Super Cube 8000 sub woofer It sounds amazing. Running a 7.1.4 setup and has power to spare. This was so easy to set up, just follow the on screen instructions. I was up and running very quickly. I have been running this for about 3 months now and can’t find anything bad to say about it. Love it
