This thing is downward firing and it's sitting in a hardwood floor. It should sound like garbage but it doesn't! I was really reluctant to buy it because of the configuration and the low cost had me concerned. Now mind you I'm not rocking the house with it, this is just for family home theater, but it turned out to be perfect.

Easy install
