Ive been a HUGE fan of the APE movies since I was in the 8th grade! Having seen the APES marathon at a drivein as a kid, ive been hooked ever since! This 5 movie collection is a MUST have for any true movie collector that dosnt already own them in the single disc versions! I think this is some of Roddy McDowels best work. The story telling is classic and all of this was done WAY before the CGI world took over the visuals in movies! Are there flaws in the visuals? yes - but that's part of the charm of old movies! THis is a must have for movie collectors!

A classic and a masterpiece. And all this without fancy special effects. There is something about the stories and the ideas in these movies that is so enticing and thought provoking. Never seen them in the theater and only discovered them much later. When I saw them for the first time I was mesmerized. Buy them and watch them over and over again. They are fantastic. The acting is fantastic, too.

This is the definitive Bluray collection of the original series of Planet of the Apes movies! I just wish they had come out with the 4K at the same time!

One of the original film franchises, the first two films are essential viewing and have some of the most shocking endings in film history.

The classic ape-saga brought to brilliant Blu-Ray is a definite must-own franchise at a remarkable price.

I had so much fun watching these again. The Blu-ray looks fantastic as well.

5 classic films with those dang dirty apes on one great collection

While the newer Planet Of The Apes films have been very good, dazzling with incredible special effects, solid writing and good performances, the original films are still worth watching. The first is a classic in the Sci-Fi genre and underrated as far as direction is concerned with beautiful cinematography, exciting chases, a dynamic and engaging soundtrack and a perfect hero in the stoic, no-nonsense character played by Charlton Heston. The sequel, Beneath The Planet of the Apes, in which Heston does not star, is a much weaker and often unnecessary film, though still entertaining if expectations are lowered. The next two films is where the series shines again, with the sometimes funny, sometimes nearly-satirical, and often touching Escape From The Planet of The Apes and the stylistically and thematically dark follow up, Battle For The Planet of The Apes. The final film in the franchise was unfortunately victim to a lower budget, due to weakening box-office sales from over-saturation of the series (the films had been releasing at about one per year). It has a weak plot, lack of good characters and an underwhelming battle scene that was meant to be much larger in scale. As for this Blu Ray edition, the films look great, particularly the first one.

I've been a fan of the PLANET OF THE APES series since I was a kid. This new Blu-Ray set has five classic films, starting with the 1968 classic & ending with the 1973 BATTLE FOR & tons of fun extras. AND, it takes up the space of one disc on your library shelf. Zowee! All five films are well worth the attention of any science fiction fan who's never seen them. The iconography, of course is inescapable; the statue of liberty in ruins, etc. Much like the other Charlton Heston doomed-future epic, SOYLENT GREEN, it's hard to be unaware of the apes even if you've never seen minute one. With charming monkey-men & bleak, despair-laden endings, the apes must be held in high (if sometimes silly!) esteem!

This is an outstanding set. The video quality is superb, the special features are informative and meaty, and the sound probably wasn't this good even in the movies. The Planet of the Apes series is one-of-a-kind; strange and dark, campy and funny, ground-breaking and thought-provoking, exciting and full of heart. It's science fiction writing done right (even if the budgets of the sequels weren't up to snuff, looking especially bad all these years later). For a fan, this is a must-own, especially for the price of five movies. For a newcomer, give them a chance. You'll be surprised how much you'll like them, if not love them.

I have always sought to replace my VHS PotA collection with the ultimate DVD collector's box set (the giant one that is inside either Zaius or Cornelius' head that has the complete television series, artwork, extras, etc.). However, since these sets were close to $200, that wasn't gonna work. One day at Best Buy, I come across Cornelius' familiar face on a complete theatrical Blu-Ray set for some ridiculously low price of $19.99. No brainer purchase. Besides, the T.V. series wasn't that great anyways. Glad I picked it up when I did, because the latest incarnations of this set no longer feature the gorgeous full color artwork, but rather an abstract two-tone rendering. I love this set!

I really enjoy having the new, slimmer box set. It has all the same movies as the older version. The audio and picture quality is the same as the older box set. I also like the artwork of the new package as well. The movies themselves are a lot of fun. I know some might not like all 5 of the movies, but I actually enjoy all of them. I enjoyed watching the rise of Caesar and how he created the Planet of the Apes. The performances by the main actors in all the movies were great especially Roddy McDowall. I can't praise Roddy McDowall enough. Having to go from Cornelius to Caesar was a seamless transition. I recommend you give each movie a chance. The ape masks may look dated and might make you hesitant in watching them, but I promise that you'll love at least one of them. They're also great movies to watch if you currently love the new Apes movies too.

They all work. It is a nice collection to have. I was not interested in buying the old Planet of the Apes movies but after watching War for the Planet of the Apes and then watching the extras and hearing all the stories about comparisons and such to the old ones, I decided, why not. And for a great price. It was a good buy. The quality looks good as well. I can definitely do without the short 30-sec or so intro for each movie telling me the next installment I am about to watch; I know what the heck I am about to watch because I put it in the player.

All 5 APES films in one package - what a bargain.Charlton Heston's role as Taylor is as iconic as his Moses character from the 'Ten Commandments'.The makeup work on the simians is truly unique.The second installment "Beneath...' is just as good but could have wrapped up the storyline but you can't keep a good (ape?) horse down - so we're given 3 more tales of desperation(Escape...) ,conflict(Conquest...),and redemption(Battle...).All you collectors of sci-fi are in for a treat with this one.......

So my wife and I are "new" to the Planet of the Apes movie saga. We fell in love with the three reboot prequels and thought that the next logical step was to pick up the original series. We only watched Planet of the Apes and thought it held up amazingly. What a wonderful movie that I have missed out on all theses years! But warning, my box was different then the one on Best Buy's website. Same item, just different box art. No biggie but it was worth pointing out!

This is an excellent collection of the five (5) original PLANET OF THE APES movies on Blu-Ray disks. Each movie in this collection is on it's own separate disk, which I prefer. And, on top of everything else, the price is fantastic. If your a fan of the original APES movies, you will have to add this to your collection.

All 5 original "Apes" movies for $19.99? That already sold me, but the transfers themselves look and sound great. Decent amount of features on each disc. The first film is still such a cultural groundbreaker and now it looks even better than it ever has. The sequels range from bonkers (see Beneath) to underrated (Conquest). I personally love this collection, especially at this price. Hard to pass up such a steal!

This is sci-fi drama at its best. My original intention was to watch one film per day. It turned into a binge. I found it difficult to watch one movie in the franchise and then wait until the next day to watch another one. When time allows I will probably do another "Planet of the Apes" marathon. Right now it is time to binge on all the extras. On second thought maybe it is better to view the numerous special features more responsibly.
