One of my favorite movies of all time; this social satire really sums up the atmosphere of the late 1960s. A crackerjack script by Rod Serling, the performances by Heston and McDowall propel this story into something that’s much more than just a goofy science-fi movie. And that ending? Superb.

Pushing almost 50 years since its theatrical release, the blu ray edition of Planet of the Apes comes back to the store shelves with an impressive restoration of a science fiction classic. Though I don't think the sequels hold up as well, the original is a must see for any film enthusiast. For the price, this blu ray edition is the best way today to view it.

See the first move that started it all, even the recent 'continuations' in the series. Hopefully you've never been spoiled about the ending so it's well worth the time if you're a sci-fi fan or want to see Charlton Heston over-act a bit. I remember when I first got this film on DVD and had to not let my son, whom was watching it for the first time, see the the packaging because it GAVE AWAY THE FREAKIN' ENDING!!! Of ALL the films to make that kinda blunder. Well, I'm proud to say that the blu ray copy has finally gotten the outside AND the inside right this time.

Charlton Heston who played Ben Hur and Moses - plays in this low budget movie along with now famous and dead, Roddy McDowall. To new generation, I think this "old" Planet of Apes will be seen as much better than expected. No CGI, just rubber suits and lots of makeup. It is entertaining, and statement about the 1960's nuclear era.

A great premise for mankind's future. The originals are so hard to top, although the remakes are as entertaining. If you like the recent Apes movies, and have never seen the original, do yourself a favor and see this. It will make you appreciate the entire library of Apes movies even more.

Having recently gotten into Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I decided to see where the story started. I was pretty familiar with the story, as pop culture is pretty predictable about referencing this often (for good reason). It's the same film you remember, and the twist ending is still well done. Very enjoyable.

I'm much more a fan of this original version of the Planet of the Apes than the new series. The special effects certainly aren't up to modern standards and yet good enough to be very enjoyable. This old version seems less dark and sinister in the story telling.

THIS CLASSIC FILM FROM 1967 LOOKS FANTASTIC ON BLU-RAY. I RECENTLY GOT TO SEE THIS GREAT FILM ON THE BIG SCREEN AT A FATHOM EVENTS SPECIAL SCREENING AND THE RESTORATION LOOKED SPECTACULAR. I AM SO GLAD THAT MORE CLASSIC FILMS ARE BEING REMASTERED FOR BLU-RAY.

Of all the Planet of the Apes films this is by far the best of them. If you agree with me you will find this blu-ray transfer to be exceptional. It looks like a brand new print. There are also MANY extras included which were not on the dvd version.

The movie itself looks spectacular in Blu-ray. The story and every other aspect shine further in contrast to the literally vastly overrated Battle for the Planet of the Apes. The wonderfully amusing animated openings put the set over the top.

Planet is the Apes is one of the true classic sci-fi films. So I am pleased to say that this blu-ray looks terrific, even with it being a transfer from 2008. There are certainly enough special features to please fans, as well.

Classic movie. So much better than the new Planet of the Apes movies. Hard to find 68 version on TV now so DVD or have to watch Wahlberg crappy remake.

It's old but this film has some great performances. The transfer is good with clear audio and sound. I don't watch the reboots much but this is good for a night's entertainment a few times over and $5 well spent.

The Planet of the Apes [DVD] [1968] is an excellent classic release it is much watch for Planet of the Apes fans. also, is great watch for special effect fans. The makeup was cutting edge for the times.

This is a great release of the original classic however be warned, this is the same blu-ray that has been released since 2008. The features are the same and it comes with the 2014 cover. The only update to this version is the slipcover. Regardless, this is a must own blu-ray version of this classic if you dont own it already.

Upgraded my DVD. It's a beautiful Blu-ray transfer. LOTS of great features and documentaries. Includes the ones on the DVD and more. A must-have if you're a fan of the film.

The original Planet of the Apes movie is a classic! Almost 50 years after being released, it is still a great movie, and a must see if you want to know the origins of the recently released movies in this series.

I have always loved this movie and they put on a great presentation on Blu-ray. Picture and sound are better than it has ever been. I just with it would have come with a 2nd extras disc, booklet, and slipcover. Great deal overall, though.

The quality of the transfer to DVD was very good. The story line of this movie was well advanced at the time it was produced. The special effect are limited, but for the time they were made, they were very good. This, the original Planet of the Apes is superior to the more recent remakes of the movie.
