This is my second Plantronics headset. I purchased my first one in 1997 and used it without problem for the next 7 1/2 years. 6 years later I found myself needing to use the headset again, but time had apparently taken its toll on the old set and I purchased this Model S12 to replace the old one. I had read mixed reviews about this model, but I decided to take the risk. The unit hooked up without a problem to my recently purchased VTech phone. The wire stand for the headset is rickety and pretty useless. I prefer just setting the headset on the desk next to the phone. Sound is not impeccable, but adequate, considering that I don't have a regular land line. Instead I'm using the Ooma VoIP system. I particularly like the fact that they did away with the batteries and now provide you with a separate power cord for the unit.

If you're like me and want to have both hands free when answering the phone to take notes, access your computer or just play with the dog, this headset is for you. Offering over the ear or across the head options, it is a reliable and sturdy head phone that is easy to use and economical. My second one in 13 years. Great buy!

I had to purchase this for my job. It’s pretty easy to set up but you have to buy a corded phone no cordless phone will work. Was odd to me at first. I haven’t started my job yet so I can’t say if it’s noise canceling or not but fingers crossed!

I looked around before having my employer buy this model for me at work. I liked it so much that I bought the same model myself for home. It is not wireless because I don't like batteries, and it is only for desk phones with a wired handset. If that is your need, this headset is perfect.

    Good Headset, very powerful microphone

I tried it out, and this device works very well. It has all the controls you will ever need. This is probably the best non-wireless headset out there. The Listen Volume Control dial is great, very adjustable incoming volume on this. Also, to have the volume control for the outgoing microphone (the Speak Volume Control) is a fantastic feature. The microphone is very strong, probably too strong for my needs, and let me explain. Being that I live here in Florida, a lot of times even though I have the air conditioning on, I often have a floor fan circulating air in my office about 10 feet away from me, on a low setting, to try to keep it cooler in my office. What I have noticed with this headset is that people can hear wind from the fan, and sometimes I can also hear the air circulation from the fan in the receiver of this headset. I realize that this is not really a legitimate gripe for others who may use this headset, being that besides this issue, this headset works flawlessly, and that most people will not be using the headset in this situation. Even when I turn the microphone to the lowest setting, people can still hear the wind movement from the fan. I have even tried to adjust the Compatibility Slide Switch on the other side of the device, which has a few different settings, and is also a good feature to have, but, that did not eliminate the wind noise from the fan. The previous headset I had from Best Buy was a Jensen model (which was okay, but nothing to brag about), and I did not have this issue with the wind noise from the fan. Also, I bought a Panasonic headset from Best Buy a few days ago from Best Buy, which I have posted below, that also does not pick up the fan wind noise, but at the same time, the microphone on this Panasonic model is powerful enough where people can here me well. The only other issue I have with this headset, is that it's sort of a pain to hook up to a corded phone. You have to plug in the corded phone receiver into the back of this headset, and when you use this headset, you have to pick up the corded phone receiver first, before using this headset. Again, this probably is not a big issue for most, but comparing this Plantronics set up to the Panasonic headset which I have - which simply plugs into the 2.5 mm jack of my corded phone. Also, the corded phone I have has a button on it, that automatically connects to the headset that is plugged into the 2.5 mm jack, which also makes the Panasonic a better work-around solution. Being that I found a solution that works better for me with the Panasonic Headset, I will use the Panasonic as my primary headset, and I think I will keep this Plantronics to use in another room. Besides the two issues listed above, this Plantronics headset is a great buy and a great find, I have no problem recommending it.

    Excellent quality, performance and compatibility

The numerous adjustments, which include; phone system device compatibility, input microphone sensitivity high/low switch, input microphone sensitivity variable volume control, and headset volume control make this system user friendly and makes this device compatible to most likely any landline desktop corded phone. This is a relatively sturdy and well-made device for your home/office for use with your existing single or multi-line phone system. Unlike previous models, the headset holder is excellent for storing the headset when taking a break. The 4’ long headset cord to base seems to be long enough for most that stay stationary. This device operates only on A/C power with the included adapter. If I had to pick out one concern, it would be that the ‘leatherette’ cup doughnut style ear cushion might get a bit warm if you wear this headset for hours on end because it is not the traditional breathable foam ear cushion. I love the headband. Using it positions the ear cup close enough to your ear so you get much less interference from surrounding noises. If you don’t want to use the head band, included is an earpiece, but this particular design makes the earpiece flop around and may not position it close enough to your ear for you to be able to hear the caller.
