I recently purchased the Platinum™ 52mm, 58mm, and 67mm Variable Neutral Density (ND) Lens Filters, and they have proven to be valuable additions to my photography toolkit. These filters have significantly enhanced my ability to control light and achieve creative effects in my photography.
One of the standout features of these ND filters is their versatility. With three different filter sizes included in the set, I can easily adapt them to a range of lenses, ensuring that I have the right filter for any situation. The variable ND feature is particularly useful, allowing me to adjust the level of light reduction precisely to achieve the desired exposure.
The build quality of these filters is impressive. They feel solid and well-made, and the smooth rotation of the filter ring makes it easy to make quick adjustments in the field. I've found them to be durable and resistant to scratches, which is essential for outdoor photography.
What sets these Platinum™ filters apart is their ability to control exposure while maintaining image quality. I've noticed minimal color shifting or image degradation when using them, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of my photos.
The included protective cases for each filter size are a thoughtful addition, ensuring that the filters remain in pristine condition when not in use. However, it's worth noting that the cases can be a bit bulky if you're traveling light.
In conclusion, the Platinum™ Variable ND Lens Filters have become an essential part of my photography gear. Their versatility, build quality, and ability to control exposure make them a valuable tool for both amateur and professional photographers. I've been highly satisfied with their performance, and I recommend them to anyone looking to elevate their photography by having precise control over light conditions.

If you shoot DSLR videos, this is your best friend

I own a Canon EOS 77D with two lenses: an EF-S 18-55mm lens and an EF-S 55-250 mm lens. I love to shoot short films on my camera, and have invested in lens hoods, Cinestyle (a software that can be uploaded into the camera to give it that cinema camera-like film look), and filters.
However, when it came to filming scenes outside in the glaring sun, there were too many problems. Yes, a DSLR does a solid job at filming, but the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed options are extremely limited when shooting video. So, what happens when you film a subject in direct sunlight? They are incredibly washed out and over-exposed, and with a DSLR, there isn't much you can do.
But, I wasn't going to let this "problem" stop me, so I researched different variable ND filters for DSLRs, and this one was among the best that I found. When putting this filter on your lens, outdoor sunlight shoots become so easily manageable, and the over-exposed footage of the past melts when compared to this footage captured with this filter. The filter is fixed for 67mm lenses, yet it does come with two adapters for 52mm and 58mm lenses; both of my lenses are 58mm, and the adapter is so easy to use.
This is such an amazing filter, and I highly recommend it to any filmmaker wishing to better their outdoor, sunlit scenes.

Very handy with both 52 & 58mm adapters included. Not quite dark enough to safely use for the eclipse, but with the help of some cloud cover at near totality managed to grab a few shots without harming my camera.

Decent for the price. I was able to get some nice shots with this filter, but at higher levels it shows the infamous X design — which makes images have an uneven exposure level.
If you’re looking for something between 6 and 10 Stops, you should look into getting a standard 3, and 6 stop filter — you can then combine them for a 9 stop. That being said this filter can be useful for someone on the go who isn’t as concerned about higher stop levels or has limited amounts of room in their kits

This is a all around great filter to have in your bag of goodies. What I really like about this filter is the fact that you have multiple filters all rolled into one. This filter gives you between 1 and 8.6 f-stops which covers most anything that I shoot. This works well for those long exposures with flowing water, makes for some really nice effects. Also, the aluminum frame makes for a hassle free operation and the dial on the side is easy to read.

Killer to Have on Set!

I first shot with a variable ND filter over the summer and instantly fell in love! These filters are excellent because they allow camera operators to keep their shutter speeds low, aperture wide open, ISO low and ensure that your image will not be overexposed. Photographers might not need this as much because they can compensate for the amount of light by raising the shutter speed but videographers who keep their shutter speeds low will definitely find a use for this.
The fact that it is variable is wonderful because you don't have to constantly swap filters as the lighting changes; you just rotate the filter! The image quality through the filter is superb and mine came out of the box with no scratches or imperfections.
It also comes with two step-down rings so when you need to swap lenses and don't want to buy an ND filter for each lens, you can add a step down ring and it will fit on the other lenses in your arsenal.
The last note I have on this filter is the price. Sometimes these filters can really cost a pretty penny and freelance guys like myself or people just starting out may not want to fork over the money. However, I feel like the price of this product is set just right and this is a tool that I recommend every videographer carry in their bag. Your director will be impressed! I guarantee it!

This VND lens filter by Platinum is a great product. It fits snug on my lens. It is clear and reduces light going on to my sensor so I can get more cinematic video shoots. The photos come out nice too. All you do is turn the VND to what you want and take the picture. It is sunglasses for you camera.

As is standard with other variable ND filters, this one has an odd pattern on the highest density. Otherwise, works smoothly with little visual flavor.

The variable filter sizes has allowed me to fit it on lenses I had not purchased yet so was a nice surprise. I bought it for the 67mm and have also used the 58mm and I have no complaints. It seems to cut down light extremely well and it is easy to use and adapt.

This VND filter is natively 67mm but comes with 2 adapters for smaller lenses. On a 67mm lens it’s great, but on the smaller lenses you cannot easily use your lens hood with the adapter and filter on.
Other than that the VND is easy to use and does not appear to reduce image quality. It has a solid feel to it and nice markers to tell what setting you are using.

I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the quality of this filter... especially considering the price relative to competitors. My expectations were blown away. I haven't seen the cross-polarization typical of other budget competitors. The rotation mechanism feels very premium, typical of a much more expensive filter. I am quite pleased with this purchase. I will definitely be purchasing more Platinum filters in the future.

This filter helps you reduce the amount of light making its way into the camera...think of it as your camera’s sunglasses which doesn’t change the color of the light. Get longer exposures for that smooth silky waterfall effect, seascapes, clouds, and more. This filter will reduce the incoming light from 1 to 8.6 f-stops good for both photography & video. Great price for an amazing product. Small profile, so easily fits in your camera bag, so when that opportunity comes up, you’ll be prepared to catch those stunning shots you see the all pros capturing!

I have a Nikon D3200. I am not a professional photographer at all, but I do like to have relatively good gear to give the illusion that I know what I'm doing ;). I did a lot of research on Variable ND filters before buying this and understood its strengths and limitations. For $50, I think this is a steal. I didn't notice the dreaded "black-x" that appears from the nd filter around its max setting, but I was rarely using it at max. I wasn't expecting much for a $50 fader, but it definitely surprised me. It does exactly what its supposed to do. My friend who graduated with a videography degree, and played around with it said it does a pretty good job compared to the gear she uses, which is obviously more professional than my stuff. This is a great addition to your gear if you are not a serious photographer, or are wanting to learn how to shoot with filters.

I bought this filter to be able to keep my speed appropriate while shooting video outdoors (1/60th or 1/120th). It does the trick. The image quality is great. I have seen other variable filters that require a larger lens cap, but this one works with the existing 67mm - just pops right on. The added bonus was the 52mm and 58mm adapters. So the filter will work on my "nifty 50" lens as well. Excellent value for the money.
