The Platinum - 58mm UV Lens Filter - Clear does what a UV filter is supposed to do. I use it to protect my 55 to 300mm lens. Using a filter like this is great insurance for a good lens to use against scratches.

This type of lens filter is on every camera we ever bought, it's not expense and will save your camera lens from being scratched or broken (under normal use)

This item comes in a nice padded case. The filter is of good quality and doesn't appear to cause any artifacts. I modified this filter using solar paper to create a solar filter for the 2017 Total Eclipse.

Look, with UV filters there are two options: 1. Cheap and noticeable 2. Unnoticeable. This isn't the cheapest product available but it is worth it and it protects my lens without sacrificing image quality.
