Great thriller! "Play Misty for Me" combines great writing and acting with a lot of suspense. Everyone in the movie did a good job of playing their roles. In the late 1980's, when "Fatal Attraction" was released, I saw a lot of similarity between that and "Play Misty for Me," which had come out at least 15 years prior. And for me, "Play Misty for Me" was by far the superior of the two movies.

This release from Kino Lorber is a significant upgrade from the older Universal release, but that isn't saying much. Audio is basically the same and sadly still only in stereo. Colors and fluidity are significantly more natural and it lacks the horribly artificial sharpening. Unfortunately, the entire film seems dramatically softer than one might expect, sometimes bordering on blurry. That said, I've never seen the negative, so perhaps it's not out of line; just something to be aware of. If you like the film, this is by far the best presentation, but it's still nothing spectacular. That said, it is worth the cost increase over the still-for-sale Universal release.

Awesome Blu ray, great movie. Very intense psychological thriller about a one night stand that turns to obsession. This movie came out way before Fatal Attraction, so if you liked that movie you will like this one.

Clint Eastwood makes his directorial debut and stars in this...be careful who you sleep with...lady goes psycho thriller. The story is solid and the actress who plays the nut case is very convincing as the over the top jealous female all men should stay very far away from.

Eastwood was very good in this picture. Donna Mills, so so. Jessica Walters, real creepy. Interesting plot and entertaining for such an old film.

Misty is up there with Citizen Kane, Duel, & Boyz N the Hood (the respective directorial debuts of Orson Welles, Steven Spielberg, & John Singleton) as one of the all-time great freshman directorial outings.
Eastwood was already a movie star before he fulfilled his life long ambition to direct with this movie. His skill behind the camera led to his (arguably) more-acclaimed second career as a film director.
However, his performance as the deejay who gets more than he bargained for when he embarks on what he believes is a casual relationship with a fan (played on a wonderfully scary note by Jessica Walter), who wants something much more from her interactions with him, is noteworthy because, while we may not quite agree with his attitude toward such issues, his character, Dave Garver, still wins our sympathy because he doesn't encourage his nemesis the way the male leads in the lesser films this classic inspired (such garbage as Fatal Attraction, Poison Ivy, The Crush, Swimfan, Basic Instinct, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) do.
Don Siegel, who directed Clint several times (not least of which in Dirty Harry) has a wonderful small role as a bartender.
