I'm sorry that some of you have received faulty units although it is not clear to me how many of you have actually bought this item.
I was so jacked when the PS3 came to market. I bought the top of the line 80GB model and paid $500 for the thing. It was a good unit, but had a few glitches. The main glitch was it wouldn't consistently eject discs.
I recently got robbed. They took the PS3 and my 40" LCD. So when I got the insurance money I went looking for a new PS3. When I saw that BB had refurbished units for $179, I couldn't believe it.
I bought one even though the reviews were horrible. I got my unit within 3 days. I opened the box and was surprised how small the unit was. It came with a controller and an AV cable. The controller and unit looked brand new.
This unit is better than my 80GB model. It is quieter, and doesn't suffer from the disc eject problem. I am so happy with it. It plays Bluray discs flawlessly and also plays games! Try to find a network ready bluray player for $179. I'm soo happy.
I hooked it up to my refurbished LG 42" LED-LCD 120 Hz 5350 from Walmart. That TV is amazing also and was $499. Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming, I got a all this for less than $750. Refurbs rock!

The console is beast and better than Xbox!

Don't listen to anybody anywhere!
This console is a beast with 4x DDRAM, and a powerful CPU Processor.
The PS3 runs quickly and functions with 1080p realistic graphic, and a complete user friendly community integrated system.
I currently own a small gaming company which is doing quite well.
The PS3 has a simple and beautiful design along with multiple ports and no power brick.
Over a dozen First-Party titles exclusive for PS3, and media compatibility w/ Flash Web Browser.
Xbox doesn't even have a web browser and the 1st Xbox didn't have Wi-Fi.
PLUS!!! You have to pay to play you games online.....that's a no no.
PS3 has backwards compatibility and supports 2 other platforms.
Applications, Games, Friends List, Trophies, Avatars thats alot and that wasn't even half of it.
I see people rating it down, don't listen to those trolls and fanboys, PlayStation Move is great wouln't recommend it to everyone but its a plus!
PS3 will have a long lifetime and you should look into it before you even think about saying Xbox is bett-

HDMI doesn't work

I decided to get this to save money and sounded like a deal. I've bought refurbished before and figured since it's from Best Buy, it would be good.. My brother bought a newer one and worked out of box, but when I got this one, HDMI did not work at all. No signal. Instead component only works. Tried everything and no luck. So I'm out 200+, do yourself a favor and put down the extra cash to get a NEW one. Cause this isn't worth the hassle...
But will try and get a working HDMI one... but I doubt it. This is refurbished by a 3rd party...

Waste of time

I was very happy when the system arrived, and I was about to enjoy it for about 3 hours before it stopped reading the game disc. I reset the game, ejected it, put it back in, and it worked fine again, until I tried to play a different game. This time it wouldn't even recognize that there was a disc in the slot. I tried it many times over the course of a couple days, and it never read it once. It was a huge disappointment needless to say. Don't waste your time getting a refurbished console. Just wait for a brand new one to be in stock.

Not impressed with "refurbished" PS3

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan. I decided to purchase a PS3 in order to destress myself during my down time. I noticed that BestBuy has "refubished" units for sale and decided to save a few bucks. The delivery time was great. I received the unit and accessories in a week or so (remember I am in Afgnanistan, so a week is fast for mail). Opened the box and was disappointed to see the "scratch and dent" special that I just purchased. I shrugged it off and plugged it in. The unit finally sputtered to a start. The start up menu skipps and stutters and does not stop until you put a game in. Fortunatley, i can play games with no issues (thus far). So, am I satisfied? not really. But what am i going to do, I'm in the middle of nowhere in Afghanistan.

now i must say i was shocked to see a ps3 for under $200 in was thinking why not i cant go wrong with the price so after reading some of the reviews on here it seems like some of the reviews was out of bordom or playin around cause they were bored. cause the problems they had or having. with they ps3 my ps3 120gb works great no problems what so ever again really none so if u lookin at the price in reading reviews im gonna tell u go for it like i did take a chance u are not gonna be sorry. now the only thing u dont get is the plan box that the ps3 comes in but u get all the the stuff as if u went to the store in paid full price for 1 but it comes in a brown box and every thing u need to get u set up plus a 90 day Warranty

I've bought many refurbished items over the years like laptops and digital cameras and never had a problem so I thought I'd try out a refurbished PS3. I wasn't expecting anything great but it came to me with scratches and dents all over it even so I wasn't too impressed from the start. Then I plugged in it and everything seemed to work fine but I started noticing little glitches here and there. The start-up screen load up seemed irregularly slow, games would be choppy loading up, and it started making loud clicking sounds when I would turn it off. Suffice to say I returned it after a few days after my confidence in the machine in a long term started to wane. Best Buy was great in refunding my money though. My advice would be to pay the extra $50-$60 and get the new one. I figure it will be worth in the long run.

I bought my refurbished PS3 from Best Buy and I took it home and after playing a game for 10 minutes the system froze, would not turn off and was not receptive. This was not a video issue, the Hard drive was not working.
*WARNING*
THESE PS3'S ARE NOT REFURBISHED BY SONY*
BE CAREFUL.

I know, I know... nobody writes good reviews. They only write reviews when things go wrong. Well, things went wrong. The refurb I got from BestBuy.com was not refurbished by BestBuy or Sony. If it had been, I'm sure it would have been done right. Instead it was refurbished by some random refurb company that didn't want to answer the phone when their product, you guessed it, didn't work. Couldn't even get past the setup procedures; the console just stopped communicating with the controller, even when the controller was plugged in. The nice folks at my local BB allowed me to bring the faulty PS3 in to the store and pay the difference for a brand new one.
If you can find a good deal on a refurb from Sony directly, get it. Otherwise, just pay the extra $50 for a new one and avoid the wait and uncertainty...

DO NOT BUY THIS SYSTEM!!!!! when i got this system i was so excited for my new ps3 i could hardly contain myself and for the price it was even better but as with most things that seem too good to be true it was. the system was amazing FOR THE FIRST HOUR AND A HALF and then the system began freezing and after trying a different disk and calling sony tech support i was informed that the disk reader was shot on the first day that i got the system... so for your own sanity i would strongly recommend not buying this system

Before purchasing the ps3 do your research. Most ps3 consoles go out after 2 years. So you can imagine the problems you'll have with a refurbished one. I was going to purchase a new one for my husband this year when 4 of his friends stated they were all having the same problems with the ps3. I thought we just got unlucky with the one we had. Sony charges over $150 to fix this console.
