This USB drive is excellent. I know some reviews say when you try to open the cap the USB comes off and breaks, so I was careful to remove the cap delicately. I don't know if it would've actually broken for me or not if I wasn't delicate. Regardless, after removing the cap I never put it back on. I take care of my items and I have the USB in a safe storage box. I mostly only plug in the USB when I need to transfer data. By default the USB comes in FAT32 format, which means you can't transfer any single file that are larger than 4GB each, but I formatted the USB to exFAT and it works perfectly fine on both Windows and Mac. The transfer rate from the USB to the computer is as stated (200MB/s) but from the computer to the USB was around 40MB/s. Still it is very fast. In terms of heat, it does heat up if you have it plugged in for awhile, but it's not so hot that you can't touch it with your hands. Size of this USB drive is excellent. It is very small and you can literally just have it plugged in at all times on your laptop and travel with it because of how small it is. Overall considering size, storage capacity (which I found to be 230GB, not actually 256GB), transfer rate, and the price for such large amount of storage, I would highly recommend this USB drive. QUICK TIP: if you think you'll be transferring large files greater than 4GB each, then right away back-up any files that come with the USB and change the format to exFAT. It only takes a couple minutes.

These drives have worked great for me. Just bought the 256GB because I needed more space. I have had the 128GB version in use for over a year now. I haven't benchmarked them or anything like that, but they have been fast and reliable and very low profile, and no excessive heat. Mine came formatted as Fat32, which caused issues for me because a particular program's photo database I was backing up exceeded the Fat32 file limits. At first I thought I had a bad drive, but after realizing what was happening and reformatting to extFat everything was fine. With reports of the Sandisk version getting hot enough that the plastic melts, and the older Samsung Fit models also having heat issues, this was my pick and I've been very happy with it. (I also just bought a Samsung Fit Plus 64GB to use for Windows installations--since the installer repartitions the flash drive and I was sick of having to mess around to get my 128GB drive back--so I guess I'll know in another couple of weeks how it compares to the PNY, As of right now, I am sticking with these Elite-X for everything important as they have been rock solid.)

As I seldom get them back, I am always on the look out for new excellent quality flash drives at a reasonable price. These are it! These are a great price, and excellent quality. They are rated as 3.0 which is 10 times faster than 2.0 assuming you have a compatible 3.0 port on your device. But if not they are backward compatible. I have not had any problem at all with then, transfer rate is excellent, and they are small I can mail them with no problem. They work extremely well with my Roku. Just plug it into the Roku USB port and viola it is off and running. I will definitely buy these again!

Very compact but it is a super fast thumb drive. Plenty of space to move files between computer. Great purchase.

this thing could have enough space to hold the entirety of Unus Annus on it, theoretically, if you somehow had your hands on it. i needed a quick way to back up all the art and minecraft world saves i have made in the past several years so i could transfer it from my old laptop to the desktop i use now. this did the job splendidly, and was fast about it, too. i also like how compact it is. doesnt stick out like a sore thumbdrive; another plus! im thinking of getting the 500GB to do it all over again for when i upgrade to a better desktop in the future.

This is one incredibly small, yet incredibly fast flash drive! I've never had one so physically small in package size and yet it holds more data than any flash drive I've had before. It's amazing! The read/write and search speeds are so very fast with it too. When I plug it in, my desktop PC recognized it right away. uploading files to it took mere seconds, even big files like backing up my entire pictures folder. I'm very glad that it comes with a hole for attaching a lanyard to because it would be easy to lose since is so small, if I didn't put it on a lanyard. I'm glad that it doesn't have a complex cap system that slides open to reveal the plug or something like that as those sometimes break, but I do wish that the cap had a tab with a hole in it so that it could also attach to the lanyard rather than being a loose piece when it is off. I wonder how long it will be before I lose the cap, especially since it is clear plastic. Another potential issue with it being so small is that there isn't any room on it for me to write my name or stick a label on it. I can barely fit my initials on the cap with a permanent marker. I've stuck a mailing label with my name and address on it to the lanyard instead. It's necessary when your work has you taking a flash drive with you to various places. Sometimes, people start to pick up your flash drive, ink pen, tablet, etc. thinking it is theirs or something, so you have to label everything.

perfect for a bootable usb drive. For programming on other distros. without having to screw with your windows OS. Faster that my usb type c drive somehow for that. doesnt really get hot like others i have used. The cap is a feature. I like to use this down by the river side with some homeful peaple and there we go 50 words have been reached.

I love this little USB drive. It is very small and well designed (f.e. you can easily keep it on your key chain). I don't know which generation it is, but its connection to computers is fast and reliable. Highly recommended.

I love (and am slightly baffled by) the low profile of this flash drive. I'm pleased with the speed it copies data at. Just a bit of advice, format it to NTFS before trying to copy a file that's 4GB or larger or else it will say the destination doesn't have enough space.

Just like the 128 gig size, the 256 works as expected. It's got a nice compact size that allows you to leave it plugged in a laptop for extended periods of time.
