Customers are saying

Customers find value in the GeForce GT 240's performance, especially considering its low price. However, some customers reported that the card's fan is noisy. Several users noted the audible fan even at low speeds. The overall experience appears to be positive for many, despite the fan noise issue.

I upgraded to the gt 240 from the intergrated card that came with my hp. Installation of the gpu was fast and simple. After installation I removed the old internal modem to add a little room for air as most manufactered computers will have limited space. My computers graphic rating from windows jumped from a 3.0 to a 5.9. The card is powered through the motherboard and doesnt require a power hook up from the power supply but I do suggest you upgrade power supplies. I went for the cosair 600. Ran games like mass effect and assassins creed well. The only complaint that I have is that I can hear the fan on the video card but reasearch through other sites suggest that it is less load than other cards. I ran a temp check during standard use (not gaming) and it ran around 86F.

I bought this card to upgrade the on board nVidia 9100 chip in my HP. The old chip was good but lacked any power for gaming. I bought this card for 80$ which is an excellent price. Instillation was easy and took a minute or two. Excellent performance for such a low price. Every game is running on max settings without a hint of slowing down. The 3D option is very good as well. People were saying the fan is loud; I don't agree. It does make some noise but you have to listen really hard to notice.

One of the Loudest Video Cards

I bought the GT 240 so I can have a HDMI connection for my PC so that I can hook it up to my home theater and HDTV. Appearantly, PNY changed the fan/heatsink because it is different than the picture. After installing in my PC, it was much louder than any other fan in my PC. The fan does not slow down, and sounds like I installed a vacuum cleaner in my computer. The performance seemed ok, in fact it rates at a 6.6 on Windows 7 experience index, but I couldn't handle the noise. This was one of the loudest video cards I've ever had and thank goodness for Best Buy's return policy, because I returned it the next day. It's back to ATI/AMD for me!

    FYI

I bought this card when it was on sale, and it provided me great performance. However, the fan was loud, and less than 2 months and a few blue screens later, I found myself having to RMA the card. Fortunately the RMA process is quick and painless. My new card does not have a loud fan like my old one--I think there is a connection.
