My son is on the search for the older Pokémon games. At 17, I think he regrets selling all his old Pokémon games and is not trying to recapture past glories. We purchased from Best Buy. Game plays great and no issues. Like most Pokémon games, if you played one you've essentially played them all.

This being Pokemon in general is amazing. I love this version of the game and it brings back memories of the older Pokemon and shows the evolution to the new ones. Overall I would say this is a MUST have for anyone who loves Pokemon. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

I'm playing this game right now and like all Pokemon games, the gameplay is definitely addicting. When you look between this Generation 4.5 game and the Generation 5 games (Pokemon Black/White), you can see how they improved the controls greatly in the next generation game. There are several things that annoy me about the controls in HeartGold: - With every interaction, battle or scene change, you have to keep re-opening the Dowsing Machine - Only 2 items are allowed to be registered for for a quick open button. One of them has to be the Dowsing Machine, because of it's constant need to be re-opened. And then you have the dilemma of either the Bicycle or the Fishing Rod. This was fixed in Gen 5 with the Y button opening a quick menu. - On another note with the Dowsing Machine (it had to be the most irritating feature in the game), you have to constantly keep your finger/stylus on the grid if you want it to scan for hidden items. It can make for some awkward holding of the DS. - The Bicycle controls are kind of odd, as it starts off slow and then picks up speed. In Gen 5, you hit top speed immediately with the Bicycle. - Another big annoyance that was improved in Gen 5 over HeartGold was that in HG, you have to re-buy a TM after using it, where in Gen 5 games, once you have the TM you can use it as many times as you like. That's about all I can think to warn you about. One great accessory to this game is the Pokewalker. It's kind of like a mini-handheld game fused with a pedometer. By walking you earn "Watts" which you can use to find and battle Pokemon or play the Dowsing Machine game to find items. One tip that you need to know is when lining the game up to sync with the Pokewalker, DO NOT line the Pokewalker up with the IR receiver on the DS. It won't connect that way. Line it up with the cartridge itself. Took me a while to figure that one out. Setting aside those things, it's still a fun game to play and I'd definitely recommend it.

As someone who used to have this game for gameboy color, this was a lot of fun to play. Cool to see it with DS graphics and fun to play it for the nostalgia.
