This was a good movie, basically an extended version of the first episode from the series.

It's not a bad movie, but it's not a great movie. It's kind of difficult to sum up how this movie fails and how it succeeds. I mean, it's beautifully animated. It's likely the best the Pokémon franchise has ever looked. On the other hand, however, the movie kind of plods along and the stakes are never really felt. I mean there are some cool scenes, but it just never really gels. My biggest complaint, though is the fact that the English dub removed all but one piece of the Japanese music. It's disappointing that after all these years, the original music is being replace with a new score. There's no real point. Perhaps if the original score had remained (a score which made use of reorchestrated music from early episodes of the show) this would be a better movie. As far as the Blu-ray goes, there's one trailer as a bonus feature. The picture quality is fine, but there is some banding present. Still, this is a decent enough looking disc.

I have been a Pokemon fan for what feels like my entire life. Pokemon has always held a very near and dear special place in my heart so I always try and snag the newest movies and games. This movie is probably one of the absolute best movies that has been made so far. The story is a retelling of Ash and Pikachu's first time meeting and first journey together. I was afraid that I wouldn't like it because I am such a hardcore fan of the first anime series of Pokemon but this movie did not disappoint.

What a great movie to watch with my daughter. Nostalgic for me, watched the show and played the games as a child. Who am I kidding I still play these games. My daughter loves the cute and cool looking Pokemon. Can't wait for her to be old enough to play Let's Go Pikachu when it releases.

Bring your kids and your tissues! You will enjoy this movie. I appreciated the great artwork in this film. They really did a great job in the animation. It's a look back with Ash when he started his quest to be the best. Does deviate from the cartoon as to his origins, but plays well into the whole story.

I bought this movie expecting something different than the original movies. It was different but in a bad way. It did not flow well for me and the producers tried too hard to throw in all of the recent pokemon additions into the original concept and in actuality, just created a jumbled, confusing, and jumpy cinematic feature. It also has no special features so it is simply a movie of Ash following the rainbow wing to Ho-Oh.

If you grew up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s you’ll appreciate this quite a bit. However it does have its flaws.
