**Pokémon Legends: Arceus** on the Nintendo Switch is a refreshing evolution of the beloved Pokémon franchise, offering a unique blend of classic elements and innovative gameplay mechanics that set it apart from previous titles. Game Freak has truly outdone themselves with this ambitious open-world experience that redefines what it means to "catch 'em all." From the moment you step into the vast, beautifully rendered Hisui region, it's clear that this is not your typical Pokémon adventure. The open-world design encourages exploration and discovery, allowing players to roam freely across diverse landscapes teeming with wild Pokémon. The sense of freedom is exhilarating, making every encounter feel organic and exciting. The new approach to capturing Pokémon is a standout feature. Instead of the traditional turn-based battles, players can now engage in seamless encounters, throwing Poké Balls directly at creatures in the wild. This real-time aspect adds a layer of strategy and immersion, making each capture feel more rewarding. The thrill of sneaking up on an unsuspecting Pokémon or outmaneuvering a more aggressive one keeps the gameplay fresh and dynamic. The story, centered around unraveling the mysteries of the ancient Sinnoh region, is engaging and rich with lore. The game does a fantastic job of blending narrative elements with the gameplay, making the journey to uncover the legend of Arceus compelling and immersive. Fans of the series will appreciate the deep connections to the lore, while newcomers will find the story accessible and intriguing. Visually, Pokémon Legends: Arceus shines with its stunning art direction. The world is vibrant and alive, with environments that range from lush forests to snowy mountains, all brought to life with a soft, almost watercolor aesthetic. The Pokémon themselves are beautifully animated, and the dynamic weather and day-night cycles add to the game's immersive atmosphere. While the game does take some risks by deviating from the series' traditional formula, these changes are a welcome evolution that breathe new life into the franchise. The mix of open-world exploration, real-time Pokémon encounters, and a rich, lore-driven story make Pokémon Legends: Arceus a must-play for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Brings the Series to Life

Pokémon Legends: Arceus completely surprised me. Instead of the usual formula of gyms and routes, the game lets you freely explore the Hisui region and discover Pokémon in a whole new way. Sneaking through tall grass, throwing Poké Balls directly, and seeing Pokémon behave naturally in the wild makes catching them more fun and immersive than ever. I especially loved the new Hisuian forms — they give a fresh twist to familiar Pokémon, and the story feels deeper and more connected to the Pokémon world’s history. It’s a refreshing change that kept me playing for hours. That said, the graphics aren’t as sharp as I hoped, and some side quests can get repetitive. But overall, the gameplay and atmosphere more than make up for it. If you’re a longtime fan or even someone new to the series, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is definitely worth playing.

This is one of the best Pokémon games ever made. The graphics arent great and there are frame rate issues but the game is an amazing redesign of the overworked frameworks Pokémon has fallen back on time and time again. Being able to catch Pokémon without having to battle them is so nice, and being able to battle some when you want is fun too. The atmosphere is immersive as some of the Pokémon feel like a threat as they will actually attack you. Exploring the wilds and finding rare Pokémon has never been more fun for me than in this game. I would strongly recommend this game more than any Pokémon game.

Pokemon Legends Arceus is definitely a step in a new direction for Game Freak. Pros: Interaction with Pokemon in the open world. This is by far the best part of the game. It feels like you are in an actual Pokemon world, where these Pokemon that have power are actually dangerous to not only your team, but yourself as well. The 3D models for the Pokemon themselves and the trainers and people in the game are very well done. Cons: The visual could use work, compared to other switch titles, namely Legends of Zelda, it still suffers from 2D art usage. The interaction with the Pokemon and the areas that are open to explore are different from the usual route and city based pokemon games. Pokemon Legends Arceus definingly takes catching to a whole new level. Instead of competing gym battles, you complete the pokedex. The game definitely rewards catching and using different sorts of pokemon, so everything and anything works.

Now that I can FINALLY review it thanks to the horrendous shipping I can say arceus legends, It surprised me to see a open world of pokemon been a dream since the GBC days. Ended up being neutral towards GF’s approach to the open world despite many other games perfecting it years prior. But anyways, It’s nice to have something different in the pokemon formula the same yet different. (Been playing since yellow) The graphics are for the most part: alright nothing to make your eyes hurt (except maybe the shadows and pop ins) or say wow. It is similar to botw and Monster Hunter but the open world aspect. the new mechanics for the open world is good its all very nice and a nice change of pace from the old games. Adds difficulty. If you are on the fence for picking it up at least give it a playthough once, rent it or borrow it, most if not all people are against the graphics but come on, it’s a pokemon game this isn’t rdr2. Legends is a bit different but over all it’s part of my collection, so I’d rather have experienced it and be disappointed than to wonder how the game is and assume it’s good…

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is exactly what the franchise needed—a bold reinvention that breathes new life into the series. The open-world exploration is incredibly satisfying, and the new action RPG elements make catching and battling Pokémon feel fresh and exciting. The Hisui region is full of surprises, and I loved diving into the lore of a bygone era. While the graphics aren’t the most cutting-edge, the vibrant Pokémon designs and unique art style more than make up for it. Game Freak’s willingness to break from tradition pays off in every way, making this one of the most memorable Pokémon experiences I’ve ever had. Highly recommended for both longtime fans and newcomers!

To Summarize, this is a fun semi-open world action RPG. You will find Pokemon of many different generations here in full 3D. The world is segmented but each area is quite large, similiar to how the Monster Hunter (Pre MH:World) series breaks up their world. I find myself losing hours of my time each time I boot up the game, enjoying the crafting, battling , catching pokemon gameplay loop. Graphics (3/5): They leave a lot to be desired, while docked, you can't help but notice low res and weird animations out in the far distance.. That said, still pretty impressive that this much open world was able to fit on the cart and run smoothly. The game looks better in portable mode too (IMO). Story (4/5): While I have not completed the main story, the setting and characters are really interesting thus far (6 hours in). You are an interloper, out of place and out of time as this game takes place in a feudal Japanese type setting. Pokemon are a relatively new discovery and people havent learned to live with them yet, so they live in fear of getting attacked. Your main goal is to study the Pokemon and complete the regions first ever pokedex. Gameplay(5/5): This is where the magic happens. The core gameplay from the series is still there catching and battling pokemon, but just different. Battle occur in the overworld and for the first time ever pokemon can attack you directly. You can complete pokedex entries various ways either by catching multiples battling a bunch of them or completing optional stuff like catching them without being seen or at certain times of day. Resources are plentiful and crafting can be done on demand so you dont need to travel to a specific area to do so. its fun to run around and explore and watching the pokemon interact in their environment. Cant help but feel the game is a little held back by the aging switch hardware (Main Hub Town feels a little empty and soemtimes pokemon appear out of nowhere). Overall (5/5): A great new direction for the series that has made me feel like I'm 12 again playing on the gameboy color. plays how 12 y/o me imagined a 3d open world pokemon would play back in 1998.

First off I'll say I was somewhat disappointed when I first started. Being used to the standard pick your Pokemon and go out swinging formula, this one through me off. It was plain and almost lacked an end goal for me. Boy was I wrong though. It doesn't lack the challenge and final prize I thought it did. It just utilizes them in different ways, from the story and characters having their problems they need help with to fighting some elite pokemon that thump you good. I realized I enjoyed the simple research you can do when you're just lounging with little time. Then diving deeper into the story when you can. I've enjoyed this game and highly recommend it to anyone who wants something slightly different from what they're used to, even if it's not really what you thought you wanted.

The best open world Pokémon game ever being able to go back to past areas and see new Pokemon and materials. I love the story and all the quests there so much to do and the farm is so useful when you don’t want to farming for at material. But overall it was a great time and even after weeks I’m still learning new thing and experiencing the open world of Pokémon.

I’ve been a Pokémon fan since Red & Blue for the GameBoy, & have been enjoying Pokémon games since. I have to admit that the regular formula for Pokémon games has gotten a bit stale, as even though I liked the Diamond & Pearl remakes, I grew bored with them quickly. Enter Pokémon Legends Arceus! This is the fresh, fun, mysterious, & exciting Pokémon game I’ve been wanting for so long! You still train, catch, & battle Pokémon, but everything is done totally different. Pokémon fans will feel right at home with this as it is different in welcoming ways that fans have been wanting for a long time. I don’t want to spoil the game, but the story is solid, the art style of the game is beautiful, & the gameplay is magnificent. If you’re a Pokémon fan, this is a must have game. If you’re a Nintendo Switch owner & not a Pokémon fan, this might be a great game to try out to see if it gets you into Pokémon. I highly recommend this game.

As someone that has been playing Pokémon since 1999, including spin offs (Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, Colosseum, Snap, Detective, Go, Cafe…you get my point), and this is just what the franchise needed. Don’t get me wrong graphics could’ve used more work on them but overall don’t really ruin your game experience. Overall the game is amazing , in terms of story, post game gameplay as well as difficulty. Difficulty because if you are the type of Pokemon player that thinks being overleveled will be good enough you are in for a rude awakening. Is also an immersive and captivating story where you actually care of what’s going on (instead of just pressing thru the dialogue to finish it). All in all my recommendation is give it a try you won’t be disappointed ❤️

This game is obviously like no other Pokémon game before and it is a great change. The design of the world is fantastic and the new forms are great. The catching mechanics feel so clean. Also a plus to this game is no two forms so I won't have to spend time deciding on what exclusives I want. Overall good story and gameplay.

I’ve been playing Pokémon games for over 20 years now, and I’ve got to say that this is a breath of fresh air. I was concerned about the game’s structure when it was revealed there wouldn’t be gyms or a league, but this has freed them up to do an origin story that’s proven to be much more interesting than the usual story they’ve recycled since the late 90s. Instead you see the seeds of various institutions such as the venerable marts and centers that we’ve seen in every Pokémon RPG. You get lore bits, previously relegated to Pokédex entries, woven into the side quests and stories (ghost Pokémon kidnapping kids, Bidoofs chewing through rock as easily as wood, etc). A lot of the material is old, but it feels new and fresh, because you’re building the first Pokédex. The features, ranging from finding starters from other games/regions in the wild to crafting represent both QoL improvements and modernization that fans have expected since the GameCube, and hoped we’d finally get with sword/shield. Crafting, a hit or miss standard feature in many modern open world games, is a huge quality of life improvement - you no longer have to trek back to town to heal or to an out of way ball maker, because you can make poke balls, potions, and revives in the field by harvesting the materials as you go! On a similar note, there are camps dotting the wilderness where you can swap your Pokémon out without having to go back to town. It’s ironic that a game set in the past feels more modern than Sword/Shield. The game is hardly perfect - the controls scheme can use some tweaking in future iterations upon this formula. And it isn’t a looker compared to other Switch titles. But it is an upgrade over other recent Pokémon games. I hope this becomes either the norm or it’s own line of Pokémon titles, because it’s simply a step up from everything we’ve gotten since DS. I can recommend this to old fans and newcomers alike.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a super fun, refreshing, and exciting take on the existing pokemon formula. It has a greater focus on exploring and catching pokemon than on battling, though there are still some challenging battles and trials to overcome that help the game feel not too far removed from the mainline titles. Though there aren't as many pokemon in Legends: Arceus as some previous titles, completing the pokedex is a more monumental task than ever before. Each pokemon's pokedex pages requires you to complete several different types of tasks, such as catching a certain number of that mon without being spotted, or defeating a certain number using psychic type attacks. As someone who enjoys ticking boxes on task lists in video games, I can see myself staying busy with this game for a long time. Also I just gotta mention, biggest surprise of the game for me so far has been the soundtrack. Sometimes I just find myself wandering and not engaging in battles or catching any pokemon just so I can enjoy the music a little while longer.

Think of it as Breath of the Wild, but we made it into a Pokemon game. Instead of going from route to route, obtaining 8 badges and battling the 5 best trainers of the region to become the Champion (as we've done for over 20 years), Pokemon Legends Arceus drops you into a massive (as far as Pokemon games go, anyway) open world to explore and catch, train and study all of the Hisui region's many, multi-generation spanning Pokemon. The Pokemon formula is shaken up enough to feel fresh as we can now catch Pokemon outside of battle and encounter them without running circles in a patch of grass. Pokemon now have different sizes and weights, as well as Alpha variants, which are huge variants of each pokemon that are especially grumpy about nosy trainers in their territory. It's always so satisfying to distract one with a berry and catch it with a surprise pokeball from behind. Overall, it's a Pokemon game that deviates enough from the norm to feel like a totally different game, and I hope to see more games done in this style.
