As much as I like this game, and the quality of life updates from past games, the base game seems really short. I spent plenty of time in the wild area and still feel like the storyline was short. I ended up buying the expansion pass and so far that seems to have added a good amount to the game. But that's an additional $30usd.

This game is something different, and that's good! I've been in this world of pokemon since Red/Blue came out! This game is a lot of fun! To me is has somewhat of a different way of the game! But it's still worth it and a blast! Pokemon fans, you need to get this.

Pokemon is a kids game so the story is still fairly easy along with cheesy lines. However, the wild area provides a great way to walk amongst other trainers and Pokemon alike. Filling the pokedex was a blast and competing online was just as hard as ever.

I was very skeptical since it’s been a long time since I played a Pokémon game on a console. The story is a rare case where it actually gets better as it goes on. I sincerely enjoyed this game. And no I’m not upset that 800 plus Pokémon aren’t in it.

Pokemon Shield is a solid game in a style that we all know and love. Although there are a few game mechanic changes, it's pretty much what you've gotten before - not that it is a bad thing. I appreciate the graphics and fluidity of gameplay. New options and random characters enhance the experience.

I have played for 11 hours and it has a good storyline but it feels more battling than story. It has the 8 gyms which I like. It has a Wild Area which I thought was a good addition since in the other Pokemon games they only have small patches of wild area.

I'm a longtime competitive player, so this game is fantastic for that. This influences my rating by a star because it is a huge part of the game and this one does it as well as any ever has. If you're just in it for a campaign, this might not be your favorite game. Many things are improved. The gyms are the best they've ever been, by far. Battling is good. Many things are streamlined about gameplay that really help. The Pokémon league is great and like the anime league for the first time ever. Max raids are very fun and once the campaign is done get very challenging and a fun additional way to stay busy. However, the story is weak, possibly the weakest ever. The writing is bad. The towns are large but empty. The routes are corridors that offer little to no exploration or secrets to uncover. Characters have little to no depth. Overall, if you enjoy competitive, get the game. It makes it more accessible than anything. But if you are looking for a campaign to challenge or intrigue you or for a world to draw you in with interaction, there are better games for $60.

Open world Pokemon brought to life with the Switch. If you're a fan of Pokemon, you won't be disappointed. Wild Area will get a little laggy during high traffic times if you have Internet turned on, but that's my only con so far.

The new features added the game really give a ton of life to the pokemon formula. Gym battles are now a sporting event spectacle and the wild area is so much fun to just run around and see. Raid battles are also a lot of fun to play with your friends.

I liked the game but the dynamax and gigantamax features were not upto the mark. The map was a little small as well. Pokemon is all about exploring and the game was a little repetitive. The best features are the wild area and the expansion pass

I've played all of the Pokemon games precious to this one and I though i was getting too old for this one but gave in and bought it. It is great! the graphics are really nice with the new Switch and the game overall is very entertaining.

I bought this game for my son for Christmas. He enjoys playing it and enjoys playing with his friends when permitted. Takes the card game to a digital level and keeps them entertained for as long as he is allowed to play.

If you wanna be the very best, like no one ever was. Catching them is your quest and train them is your cause. Travel all across the land of the Galar region. Meet new Pokemon and understand the power thats inside!

This is the first, all-new Pokemon game on the Switch (not counting Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee due to them being remakes). There are a number of time saving improvements brought to this game, though it still very much feels like a great new iteration. I'm not terribly far into the game (completed 2/8 gyms so far) though I have been enjoying it for around 10 hours, just kind of taking in the sights. I also highly recommend buying the physical copy over the digital. This is in large part knowing that the value of the game won't go down for some time so, should you complete it and be totally done in a year or two, the resale value will almost certainly stay above $30.

It's pokemon. I have a good time with this game, the gimmick is this one is nothing new sadly. The open "wild" are is cool, but the Dynamax, and Gigantamax is just mega evolutions from X&Y, with the Z moves from Sun and Moon.

So far, I am enjoying the game. I like the "open world" experience and the updated graphics are nice! Nothing like a pokémon charging at you at their top speed! Hope you have a bike!

For any kid who loves Pokemon, this is a must have (and, mostly, the reason we got the Switch—the "workout game" was the justification). Great animation style, fun to just run around looking at Pokemon.

According to my son, Pokémon Shield is GREAT! Do not hesitate to purchase. The sooner you buy, the sooner you can play. This was a “requested” gift. He said it was definitely worth waiting for but would have loved it before the holiday.
