Previously I've been using a standard sound bar with sub and needed something a bit more substantial. The small speakers work well for a small place such as mine. Originally I had wanted a standard setup with two tower speakers and a sub but that might has been a bit too large for my place. These smaller speakers work out better simply due to their size and having more options for spacing them out in my living room. The subwoofer is a tad bit bigger than my older one but still looks/sounds good. As far as the speakers go, the only real complaint I have is that they're wired. While the sound is a bit better, would've been a bit more convenient if they were wireless for convenience sake. Overall, the speaker system sounds great and don't take up too much space. Sound is pretty good and this is a nice upgrade for my living room.

If you don't know much about home audio or do but can't be bothered to hunt down what wires to use, what receiver do I need, what speakers, etc etc etc etc...this is a great solution. Everything you need in ONE box. Just unpack, plug it all in, and you're off. Instruction clearly map what needs to go where, after that it's up to the user to place the speakers (and hide the wires). The connection points are the nicer binding post style - a nice touch. Also, you can add addition speaker sets to expand to 6.1 and 7.1 if you so desire. At this price-point, it's a very good system. The all-in-one nature of it only bolsters that point home. Having said that, their are some corners being cut in materials and features to help keep said cost at bay. All that aside, it's still 4 stars out of 5, the only way to get that 5th star would be for either wireless satellite speakers OR nicer speaker material. I feel costs were cut a little too much across the board and that this system could still be achieved via improving one of those two areas. Wireless speakers would have been my choice as the included 100' of fire has to be cut, spliced, etc etc and this would have only saved time in the long run, not to mention clutter and mess with all the wiring around whatever room you decide to install this in. There will be A LOT of wire :) The receiver runs hot, but at this price point the nicest of components aren't being used, so it's to be expected. Just be sure to keep it off the carpet (which will block vent holes) and don't put anything on top of it (for the same reason). Best bet is to have it by itself on a shelf with at least 3-4" above to help circulate in/out air. If you are planning on putting this in a larger room with high ceilings and lots of open space; look elsewhere. This is ideal for a dorm room or smaller living space. There simply isn't enough ooomph in the receiver or satellites to fill a full-sized living room. The sub (8") is a touch smaller than I anticipated, and while not bad, it isn't really floor shaking either. It does a good job and tries it's best to keep up, but don't expect it to provide full, robust sound that rattles your insides. Sure, it gets loud, but that isn't the same thing. Just realize this is a entry to entry-mid grade surround system and you'll be fine. And in a small(er) room is *does* pack a punch. The design is extremely simple (a plus in my book) and there's nothing garish or crazy that makes me want to hide anything. Sometimes you'll have a chrome logo, or ridiculous design feature that is embarrassing to have visible; not the case here. All black everything and simple lines that flow nicely from start to finish. Easy recommendation; especially if you can snag it on sale. It punches above it's price-point if you're getting it in relation to the criteria I laid out above (smaller room, realistic expectations, etc etc). Sometimes you'll see someone purchase a $2k system with 15" sub and 800watts of power, then throw it in a tiny room. Overkill and completely unnecessary. For the right environment, this is just about the perfect surround sound system for those not wanting a sound bar and the actual effects of 5.1.

My soundbar sounded better than these "surround sound" speakers. Returned!

I will give full disclosure...I am not well educated on full systems like this. I have been more than happy with my pretty simple sound bar setups with subwoofer so my review won’t speak to those that know the ends and outs of these types of setups. This is for the regular person that just wants some pretty amazing surround sound for their main tv viewing room. This bundle definitely fits that bill in my opinion. So we all know that lost TVs alone don’t sound that great so when we add a sound bar system we’re often impressed compared to the sound that comes from the tv speakers alone. Remember that feeling and multiply it times 10. This system just sounds GREAT! It feels like you can hear sound effects in your favorite action movie that you maybe never heard before (except maybe when you saw it at the theater). Setup for me was a bit frustrating but it wasn’t overly difficult. It was more me wanting the simplicity of plug and play when this is a bit more complex than that. Definitely suggest mapping out just where you want the speakers before you get started. I don’t have other surround sound systems to compare this to but it’s definitely a great one to go for if you’re not super technical and your goal is to be able to enjoy great surround sound for a very decent price point.

The reason why we purchased this was it had everything we wanted for a surround sound system. The receiver has 700 watts of power and has all the connections you would expect in a decent receiver. The speakers connected easily and once up and running the system sounded great.

I picked up this combo from Best Buy yesterday and set it up in my movie room.  It's been a while since I've shopped for surround sound; the rig I had in there was from 2007!  There have been a lot of advancements in audio tech in 12 years.  Anyway, my wife, grandson, and I tested it out last night with the Cybertron scene from Bumblebee and holy $*!#.  My grandson and I lost it.  My wife - who normally could care less about that kind of stuff - was trippin', too.  Sounded like a legit theater in there.  The dang floor was shaking! Our 5lb chihuahua made a run for the hills!  She thought the world was ending... Ha! This has a really full sound for a 5.1 theater in a box product. I'm impressed! Worth every cent - even more!
