"A Crowning example of Hayao Miyazaki's beautiful animations!" Although this film is geared towards a younger audience, each frame is just packed with artistry depicting the watercolor art form, much like Walt Disney's earlier full-length animated films like Pinocchio. Miyazaki's films are breaths of fresh air among the sea of modern animated features that often rely on 3D Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), some at the expense of a great story. Not only does Ponyo, along with the rest of Studio Ghibli's films have a wonderful story of adventure and coming of age, but showcases the beauty and mythology that makes up the best of the Japanese culture. I encourage you to watch this film and all of the best that Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have to offer!

The movie itself is a classic, and having two discs is a great plus. Wish they had had it in only the DVD version though.

Ponyo is a good movie to watch with the family and like all Ghibli films, has a beautiful art style

Childhood favorite. I'm glad anime is easier to get ahold of these days. You use to have to order it from Japan and it was a bit more costly. This is the real story and I'm glad you can watch it in the original Japanese version without subtitles. The dvd quality is just as good as the bluray. Unless you have a 4k tv there isn't much difference in quality.

If you take a poll of people's least favorite Studio Ghibli movie or research it on the internet, Ponyo will always frequently appear. I really disagree. Yes, the story is simple as if told by a child, but the sheer animated beauty and imagination on display is staggering. The backgrounds of this film have the style of a colored pencil sketch, and it's beautiful. The film has both 5.1 English and Japanese audio tracks unlike several of the more recent Ghibli blu-ray releases from Disney which only have 2.0 tracks. The film will grab your attention and keep it through the end which I cannot say about a few other Studio Ghibli movies (e.g. From Up On Poppy Hill). Ponyo is in my top 5 favorite Ghibli movies list. Be warned that your Ponyo copy will likely not come with a slipcover (mine did not). I wish they would indicate this on the product page. One star deducted for that. Also, after watching this film, you will want to eat ramen so have some ready at home. :)

Another wise move by Disney, originally from Studio Ghibli - Ponyo is a very entrancing movie that our 4 year old loves. We began being impressed with the Studio Ghibli movies when we saw "Totoro" then "Kiki's Delivery Service". They all are quite different than typical animated kids movies, in that the pacing is slower and there is more emphasis on the children's perspective. Very cool.

My daughter has been asking for this movie for a month. She is a huge anime fan and especially loves the Studio Ghibli films. She has quite a few of them but this has recently become her favorite. We saw this in store and had to get it for her. Not everybody carries anime so I really appreciated that Best Buy does. She loved it and we've had no problems with it.
