Sadly Gkid decided to use mediocre material for the steelbook. Combine that with bad shipping = dented case and broken spine. Not even worth the return/exchange effort.

Not one of my favorites from studio ghibli I would watch some trailers and judge kit for yourself.

This is the first North American Blu-Ray release for a Studio Ghibli film! Others are available on Blu-Ray in Japan, so we'll just have to wait for Disney to get around to releasing them here. Ponyo is a delightful movie based loosely on 'The Little Mermaid'. It tells the story of a girl from a magical under-sea kingdom (Ponyo herself) who falls in love with a boy named Sosuke. The two go on a magical adventure together. As with any Studio Ghibli film, the animation and story are outstanding, and the Hi-Def transfer really brings out the quality of the animation, some of the best 2D cel animation around. The extras are the same as on the DVD. There's the 'World of Ghibli' part where you can unlock some clips or some humorous animations or find out which 'Ponyo' character you are the most like. There are also several featurettes on the making of Ponyo, including some input from Hayao Miyazaki, who stands with Walt Disney as one of the most important men in the history of animation. The English dub is not at all good. Most of the dub voice actors are age inappropriate and many cannot pronounce the names correctly. It's pronounced 'Po-nyo' not 'Pon-yo'! The Original Japanese version is much better. This movie looks even better on Blu-Ray and is certainly worth the upgrade. Recommended for any anime fan.

Ponyo tells the simple tale of a mermaid named Ponyo who befriends a five year old boy named Sosuke. Ponyo and Sosuke go on a magical adventure together as Ponyo tries to become Human. The plot is pretty simple, but it so brilliantly executed. The direction, by Hayao Miyazaki, is fantastic as always. The animation is fluid and colorful, some of the best 2D cel animation made in recent years. The music, by Joe Hisaishi, is great and suits the movie perfectly. The voice-acting, in the Original Japanese version, is superb. All voice-actors are well-cast and do a great job as thier respective characters. In the extras, there are features on the making of Ponyo, including a segment from a documentary about real-world locations that inspired Studio Ghibli films. I want to see the rest of that documentary. There's also input from Miyazaki himself. In the interactive portion, you can find out which Ponyo character you are most like or uncover video clips and animations in the Kiki, Totoro and Castle in the Sky sections. The only downside is the English dub. None of the English voice-actors fit thier roles and many sound age inappropriate. The Japanese cast is infinetly better. Ponyo is magical fun for the entire family. It's a great movie for children and adults can enjoy it as well. See it for yourself and you'll know why Hayao Miyazaki is considered one of the best directors in animation.

I am simply writing the review about the story. Since at the time of this review it's not yet released on Blu-ray/DVD. I saw the original Japanese release and the Engkish release and I love them both. The english voice acting was very good and I loved it. The story is a masterpiece (as exspected from Hayao Miyazaki) I HIGHLY recomend this to everyone, regardless of age. Anime fan or not I say its worth watching at the very least once. The character, colors, story, feel, design, story flow, everything I loved.

This is another family-friendly movie by Studio Ghibli. Will keep kids and adults enchanted until the every end. The animation, story, backgrounds are so wonderful you'll want to watch again and again. The English dub isn't bad, but I prefer the original Japanese language w/ English subs. You'll appreciate the original voice cast's skills.

This story is from Japan, and is a story that is engaging and fun. My daughter loves this movie. I think it is a good movie to purchase for your little children, and the action in the movie is really good, as there are things that happen that can keep your children glued to this, as things like a storm, father on a ship, mother at a lighthouse, child watching for father, and then there is Ponyo. This movie is very cute and engaging. I recommend a purchase on this one.

Though I have never read the classic upon which this movie is based, I am genuinely intrigued with Mayazaki's works. That being said, Ponyo's plot is smaller in scale than some of its predecessors. While the events in the movie have certain grand elements, ultimately, the tale revolves around a fairly simple plot. I do not see this as a detractor in any regard, in fact, it allowed me to examine the very colorful and organic backdrop that the movie resides upon. The score and visual elements fascinated me, and are difficult to put into words; again, the word organic comes to mind, as the director crafted commonplace oceanic scenery into something truly alive. Suffice to say, I recommend this movie for any Studio Ghibli fan. Should the viewer simply have an appreciation for creativity in art, they should not be left wanting.

Child hood favorite. I speak highly of ghibli movies. You can never go wrong with them. I would highly recommend. The only people that write negative reviews of ghibli movies are those that tend to not like animation movies.

Another Miyazaki masterpiece. This is a great movie for the whole family. This movie will keep the attention of adults, especially fans of Miyazaki's, and will also entertain young children - the best of both worlds. A great voice cast only adds to the film's rich graphics.

This is a great family movie, or a great movie in general. It's a very cute movie with plenty of humorous moments. This is one of my favorite styles of anime and would recommend it to anyone just starting to show an interest in anime.

Really a good movie to watch with the whole family. The animation and graphics are perfect for children and adults alike, and the story is so detailed and well-written that adults will be able to appreciate it.

Didnt know what to expect from this movie my child had asked for it. Got it and watched with him and its really a nice movie, but my kids loved it. Never moved once and eyes never blinked for the entire movie.

If you love Miyazaki's other films, then this one will be right up your alley. It's a wonderful mixture of cute, creepy, poignant, and magical.

My whole family has loved this movie. A modern take on the Little Mermaid that will sweep you away with its visuals.
