I have no trouble connecting to the switch. It always connects automatically. I now own 2 of these (one is a different color). I highly recommend this controller!

I haven't used it so i can't comment on a comparison to the nintendo pro controller, but for a kid I think its gonna be fine on that stand point.

Buttons are not as crisp or responsive as a first-party pro controller. Overall good value, especially for the sale price. Hard to go wrong for under $15.
