Customers are enthusiastic about the PowerDolphin Wizard Water Drone's camera quality and the effectiveness of its sonar feature for locating fish and mapping lake bottoms. The ease of use of the controller and mobile app are also frequently praised. However, a common complaint centers around the relatively short battery life, with users wishing for longer operation times.

An amazing water drone

When I first heard about this drone and saw the promo video about it, I thought there is no way it's real and has all those capabilities. Turns out it's real. It took some time to set everything up and figure out how to use it, but once over that hurdle it worked great. I couldn't upload videos for this review, but I did include a few snapshots taken from the video so you can see the camera provides a nice, hi-res picture.
I tested it on one of our ponds so if something happened I'd be able to rescue it more easily. There was one place that I got it somewhat tangled in seaweed, but was able to drive out of it after a minute or so. The rated 10 mph sounds slow, but for some reason it seems really fast on the water. It really planes up out of the water and makes a decent wake. In the underwater filming mode it slows down and sort of plows through the water with the camera pointed down. This mode is nice for navigating around shore so you don't accidentally speed into something (like the shore).
It was nice that it came with 16GB SanDisk microSD card so you can start out capturing some videos and still pictures. For someone with big fingers, it is a little tricky to insert/remove the card, but it can be done. They warn you also to keep the rubber seal secure over the microSD and USB slot to keep any water out.
My Samsung S10+ in a case did fit just fine in the controller, but anything a little bit larger might have had trouble. Once you get connected to the PowerDolphin's Wifi and fire up the Vision+ 2 app, you're pretty much ready to go. I had put the drone in the water by shore and could already see tiny fish checking out the camera in the video feed to the app. It took a little practice to get familiar with the controls, but within a few minutes I was zipping confidently around the pond. The battery levels of the drone and the controller are conveniently displayed in the app.
If you register your PowerDolphin, you apparently get free replacement props for life. I think the fine print mentioned a limit of 1 set per month. This is also when I noticed the company is headquartered in Beijing, China. They do have a US support number to call, but I haven't needed to use that yet.
I like that the power brick comes with cables so you can charge all the pieces at once: the PowerVision, the controller, and the main battery. This way you can get everything ready to go fairly quickly and get back out on the water. It may be hard to justify a practical reason to purchase this, but it certainly is a lot of just good, plain fun to use. I plan to map out the depth of my ponds, maybe snoop on some fish and turtles, and get videos of ourselves while canoeing and kayaking. For that, the PowerDolphin seems to be the perfect tool.

At first I had many issues getting the devices to connect with either cable or WiFi. I reset the app many times and eventually gave up for a bit. I tried again another day and this time tossed it into the tub to see if that would help and once in the water it wakes right up, this drone needs to be in the water to respond to the app.
The drone comes boxed up well and in nice tight packaging. It was much larger than I had expected to be but looks sleek and futuristic. Once un-boxed get the charger and plug in the drone battery, remote and sonar device. Its a great plus that these devices all plug into one charger at the same time.
Of course the day I went to the lake for it's maiden voyage the lake was super busy. I had to contest with dogs and frustrated people fishing until I showed them that this wasn't just some toy that it could actually benefit our day fishing. At first many thought I was out just playing.
Out on the water it zips around with ease and turns on a dime. I had major lag in camera mode to the propellers. Everything else was fine but the drone would slow then burst occasionally. Once back in cruising mode that weird lag would go away. The 4k camera is amazing, I wish I could upload videos, but here are a few pics.
The bait trailer was cool as well as the line release. I could get my lure way out beyond cast range or down into a nook near the grass or dark deep crevices to find the fish hiding out. It worked flawlessly.
I do have some complaints. The micro SD card requires small fingers, I had to use small bent needle nose pliers. Be sure to close the seal when you put the SD card back. While in camera mode the drone looks like its going to sink over time, switch it back to cruise mode and it gets back above plane. I think it would sink if continued to run around for a long time in camera mode. Make sure to wear some shorts.
We are going out again this weekend to a different lake. Can't wait to run it again and catch dinner.I also need to test out the light since I forget while at the lake. I did test it out at home and it was very bright.

NOT an underwater drone but a good fishing tool

First let me say this is not an underwater drone nor does PowerVision claim it to be. It does give you the tools to make POV footage of boat like view or if you're scuba driving or snorkeling and want to catch you from an above view this would definitely work. This Powerdolphin does not submerge.
However, this is a great fishing tool to survey fishing spots before you cast your line out. It even has the ability to carry bait and chum the waters if you needed. PowerVision gave the PowerDolphin the ability to carry a bait box at the back of it and even has the ability to release or chum the waters. One more awesome tool it has is a sonar type device that can sense fish below. I was able to see where fish was on the PowerVision app and was able to verify when the fishes came near the surface of the water.
I would not recommend this if you're looking for great footage but if you're looking for a good fishing tool to help you on a day out at the pier, definitely would recommend this.

Cool Concept, Questionable Quality

I really want to like this product, and in some ways, I do. When I first received the product, I thought it was a really cool concept. All of the features that are packed into this thing are very impressive. First of all, starting from the front of the product, it has a 4K camera that can be put above or below the water. It can be controlled from the remote or the phone app. It also has a light on it that considerably bright. Towards the middle of the unit are two antennas that can be place upright or down. On the sides of the product are "fins" that have LED lights on them. They indicate the status of the unit. If they are blue the controls are locked. If they are green the controls are unlocked and the drone can be driven. On the bottom of the drone is a cover that can be taken off and the sonar can be screwed into it. The sonar is battery powered separate from the drone. The drone battery is placed in a compartment on the top center of the drone. Also inside that compartment is a rubberized cover that, underneath, holds the memory card (the drone came with a memory card). On the back of the drone are two propellers and a flip up cover where the bait box connects. The drone is pretty fast on the water. At first glance it looks and feels like a quality piece of electronics, but in use I wonder if that is actually the case. I will account now for the issues I had with the drone. When I first placed the drone in the water to drive it around it worked great. I used the remote control only and it was flawless. I took the drone out of the water and shut it down for a bit. When I returned to the water I placed the drone back in and I was using the phone app this time. I drove the drone around in the water with the phone and then drove the drone up beside me to shut it down and take it back out of the water. The lights on the drone were blue, indicating the control were locked. I shut down the phone app and went to pull the drone out of the water. The drone took off on its own, under no control of my own, with the lights blue. At full speed the drone smacked a wall head on. The camera was broken as it smashed it backwards into the housing it is mounted in. I finally got hold of the drone and pulled the battery as it would not stop on its own. I had not used it for more than approx. 5 to 10 minutes. The next day, I contacted the company Powervision. If there is one thing that I can say, this company stands beside its products! They were quick to evaluate the situation and, within the next few days, they shipped me a brand new drone as I returned them the damaged one. I was very impressed with the way they stood by the product. Unfortunately, the problems don't just end there. I received the new drone and took it out for a test drive. It worked great! I folded the two antennas up and drove it around in the water. After using it for awhile, I drove the drone up beside me by the dock I was standing on. I reached down to pull the drone towards me by pulling slightly on the antenna. This was to allow me to grip the body of the drone. One of the antennas snapped at the bottom where it connects to the body of the drone. This was disappointing considering the issues I had with the first drone. The drone still functions properly, but the antenna will pop out of the bracket and float around in the water. I am worried it will eventually damage the antenna wire, so I haven't used it since. I am getting ready to contact Powervision again to see if they can send me a new antenna or fix the damaged one.
It is concerning to me that something like the Powervisionn Dolphin Wizard, a $999.00 drone, could be made with parts so easily damaged. That is why this unit received 4 stars. I really like the features, but I really didn't get to test the features in depth as both units ended up, in some way, damaged. What I can say is, if you use the drone at full speed you will most likely not get the advertised "up to 2 hours battery life" that is written on the advertising materials. All in all, it is a neat product, but something at this price range, in my opinion, shouldn't have to be handled with kid gloves.

It really does what they. The sonar ( fish finder) on the bottom works to find fish and other objects below it. The camera records in 4K and is very clear above the water and points down into and back for filming aquatic life in slow speed. Works just like a air drone with GPS and return to home features but on water. No FAA rules to worry about !! GET an extra battery one only runs for 20 mins at full speed but they say 2 hours in slow. Just watch out for rough water. You do not want to break off the antenna if it flips and hits the shore hard. Very unique !!

It’s definitely for the shore fisherman… with lakes may not be ideal harder to see below the surface. Battery doesn’t last more than 2 hours and has a lot of size. Occasionally will disconnect or be hard to connect. Ultimately returned it.

I was very skeptical of how this water drone would perform and work in terms of being both a useful tool and something fun to play with. I'll say that the thrill of this thing does not disappoint and while there are some things that could be improved it's overall a very solid machine.
Out of the box you can tell right away that this thing means business. It looks nice and all the components fit well and work well. I was able to immediately see that this thing is built solid (obviously in hopes that it will last a long time). First time out of the box, you'll want to charge all the components but other than that it's ready to hit the water.
Note that the special battery holds the MicroSD card and has a seal on it to prevent water from going inside where it connects to the terminal and the SD card. I'd imagine other components are housed here too so make sure that it's locked in and seated properly to ensure that the seal isn't compromised when it's in the water. This thing is designed to get water inside of all the other parts except that one area - which is a very smart design as there's a whole bunch less to worry about sealing properly.
I really like that it offers different connecitivty options to your phone/tablet or a Remote Control which was included with this one (there are some packages that don't include this). The app prompts you each time so it's easy/quick to connect it the way you want to. Setup with the app on my Apple iPhone XS Max was easy and worked really well, but being a T-Mobile customer didn't pay attention to the message about Camera connectivity with T-Mobile as I thought at first it was a system message/popup. I felt that there should have been instructions on the box or that the message that popped up in the App should have been more clear as it was too easy to just click past it not realizing what doing so would cause in terms of issues. Anyway, once cellular data was turned off, issues with the camera were instantly resolved so, if you're a T-Mobile customer pay attention to the message!!! For me, it's no big deal to turn it off as I wouldn't want my phone ringing while I had this drone out in the middle of the water anyway!!
The controls and modes are nice and give you plenty of flexibility in terms of how you want to use it. I must say it's so easy and a blast to control! If it's your first time using a drone the - whether it's just out on the water having fun with it, or using it to help with fishing. Unforuntely in my state using the bait box to attract any fish would be very illegal, but using it to take the fishing line out would not be which is what I did and it worked VERY WELL! Check your fishing laws/regulations before you use the bait box would be my advice but it also seems like it'd work well too. The App and the controller make it easy to use regardless of which way you're using it but I'd highly recommend having the controller - it's well worth having it. The controller itself is built solid and offers connectivity options either by Wifi or USB and offers the best experience in terms of using it in my opinion. The ONLY thing I absolutely do not like about the controller is that it does not fit my iPhone XS Max with the case on and I could see it definitely not fitting with some cases. Pretty disappointed in this one thing on the controller as I wouldn't want to drop my $1200 iPhone trying to put it in the controller without a case to use this machine. If you have an iPhone XS Max or similarly LARGE size phone.
For distance I went out quite a ways but didn't push it to the limit as it had plenty of distance for my taste. The connection via Wifi is pretty solid but I tested this in an area where there really is no other Wifi around for miles (for that matter barely any cellular service) so, in Wifi dense areas the distance may not go as far, but I was certainly impressed with how solid the connection was for me in relation to the distance it went (several hundred yards or a good 1000 feet I'd estimate). If you are wondering if this thing is fast ... I can definitely say it's very fast! Battery life is awesome and lasted a couple hours in the couple times I've used it so far. Charging times are decently quick too with a partial charge taking about an hour or so, and a full charge a few hours. The charger does get warm so if you're using the charger on the go in a car I'd watch to make sure it doesn't overheat if you're charging it and it's hot in the car.
The camera, GPS and Sonar all work good. Starting with the camera... you may notice some lag or chop in the video when it's out a ways but it still works pretty good. When you download the video off the card you'll notice that there will be no lag/chop so don't worry if you see that as you are using it as it'll be smooth later when you download the clips. The image stabilzation works decent and the quality of the video was much better than I thought it'd be! The GPS locks very quickly and the App does show you how strong of a signal you have with GPS so if the drone is navigating on preset routes that it cand do so and if it does loose connectivity it should be able to return close to where it started though this didn't happen to me. For the Sonar, I was very excited and impressed with how well it works. It works either on the drone detached on it's own and activates when it's in the water. Note that the drone is the same way and will only turn on the props once it's in the water for safety reasons I'd imagine. On that note, I would definitely avoid using it around groups of people or kids that are actually in the water as the props even though they are guarded could hurt someone (it's really not a toy anyway).
Overall, very impressed with how well built this machine is and with how well it performs. So far, I've been able to do a lot of what you'd expect to do with a drone like this and above that it's a real thrill to use it - seriously! Even if you have a large phone I'd still recommend it, but think that the manufacturer should have taken this in to account when they designed it. Asking someone to risk their $1000 phone to use their controller without a case on their phone tells me it wasn't well thought out in that regard, but was thought out well in all the other areas that count so, in the end, I'd still recommend this machine despite that one thing.

So this was a spontaneous purchase at the time, and as a veteran drone pilot, professional photographer, and fishing enthusiast this product seemed so intriguing to me I decided to get it while on a trip to the coast. I got home and pulled everything out of the box and it's a solid feeling craft, good weight to it, comes with a controller, a bait boat, a fish finder, and some extras ie. charger props, travel bag. The fish finder this comes with is actually it's own whole separate device called Powerseeker, that can be used alone or in conjunction with the Powerdolphin. It's a baseball shaped device that can be hooked to a fishing line, or screws to the bottom of the Dolphin. So the first time using the dolphin it is so hard to just put it in the water because it seems counterintuitive to put an expensive autonomous "robot" or drone in the water. Never get your electronics wet is what I always try and practice, HOWEVER do not be afraid of the traditional fears around water. This product is made to go right in the water, it can fully submerge but will stay on top floating easily. The power in it's 2 thrusters is impressive, it is very quick, and has good maneuverability in the water. It can go in salt or fresh water, can correct itself if it flips, and can be programmed just like a normal drone to sail to pre set way points in auto mode. It can use the powerseeker to scan the water below and gives deoth, temperature, terrain, and of course fish! The camera can be remotely gimbaled to shoot above surface or stay aimed below. There is a light at the nose too for darker situations, or to attract fish. The best feature for me at least is it's bait drop capabilities, and line tow it can do. It will basically take your fishing line attached to it, sail to a location you want or it can use A.I. to determine the best spot for fish activity, then with a push of a button will quickly unhook and release your line and sail back to your location. This good for surf fishing when you just can't cast past the second sandbar! Also, a lot of coastal parks and public areas have bans on drones so using a drone for flying line out isn't viable, however this is, since it is not the definition of a flying drone that most of these ordinances target. Many cool things about this product. The future is here, and it's got a lot of awesome tech to help all of us do things faster, better, more efficiently, and have more fun doing it.

I have been testing the PowerDolphin extensively over the past few weeks in different water conditions just to see what it will do. Here's my impressions. Setup is a little time consuming and the app is finicky at first, but most of that is from the wonky instructions included in the box. I'd recommend going straight to the website and using the instructions found there. You will save yourself some time and frustration.
Once i got it all hooked up, the maiden voyage was in the back yard pool. I wanted to be sure how it would act before letting such an expensive toy loose in the lake or a pond. The first run was a moderate success (I was limited by the space of the pool of course) and I was thoroughly impressed by the speed and ease of driving.I tried all three modes using just the controller and then again trying to use my phone. The controller is the best and easiest way to go. Trust me.
A quick word of caution based on my own stupidity...ALWAYS get the drone out of the water before turning the controller off. I reversed the order to nearly catastrophic results. When the drone loses connection to the controller, it immediately initiates a full speed "return home" maneuver. Before I could figure out what was happening, it slammed into the side of the pool, cracking the nose cone. When I reached down to grab it out of the water (with motors still humming right along), my finger got caught in one of the props and it sliced me wide open. It hurt. Don't try it.
Since that test, I have taken the PowerDolphin to a large open lake and several smaller ponds. The results are the same. In calm water this thing scoots and can take some decent video (above water). The included 16GB microSD card is on the smalish side for me so I upgraded almost immediately. The videos are not cinematic quality, nor have I been remotely able to recreate the fluid shots shown on the website, but overall they are decent and I think with practice and the right conditions I could get there.
The underwater mode is excellent for scouting fishing spots I otherwise wouldn't be able to see. The light is also bright enough to attract some fish if you aren't using the belly-mounted powerball. On that note, I fiddled a little with the topographic mapping around a friend's dock. While it worked and was a neat feature, it's not something I think I will find myself using a lot. Maybe if I was looking for new spots in unfamiliar areas, but otherwise not so much.
I love the bait drop attachment and hook tethering. One of my favorite fishing spots has a location I wanted to try but I just wasn't able to cast far enough. I hooked up my line, put a small amount of fresh bait in the container and motored to where I wanted to be. One button spins the bait holder and simultaneously releases the line. I quickly moved the drone out of the way and almost immediately had a monster bite. Unfortunately, I didn't land him on that try but I have since caught several nice fish in that same spot.
All in all, I have been impressed with the ease of use and sheer "fun-factor" of the PowerDolphin. I've let the kids run it around in quiet bays and they think its a real hoot. The range is outstanding although I can't say I've tried pushing it to the limits for fear of losing sight of it or it getting hit by a passing boater. On full speed pleasure runs I am typically able to squeeze at least 20 minutes of run time out of it, sometimes more if the water is calm. It does tend to porpoise in rougher waters and that obviously adversely impacts battery life and video quality. I have yet to be able to run it out of steam in underwater (low speed) mode. It runs that long. I'm impressed and I'm hoping the PowerDolphin will continue to delight and help my fishing for many years to come.

I have some experience with aerial drones, so I was eager to try the PowerVision Powerdolphin.
The Powerdolphin came well packed and secure in the box. It comes with a battery, power adapter and cords, spare propellers, 2 nylon bags (one for the drone and one for the controller), and documents. On the first impression, it seems well built, bigger than I expected and a bit clunky (large and bulky), but manageable. It was relatively easy to assemble following the quick-start guide. It was easy to register and connect to the app. I do recommend checking the video tutorials on their YouTube channel to make things easier.
Once in the app, things became difficult and frustrating. It was unclear what settings need to be set to begin using it. I kept receiving an error message that would prevent me from being able to engage the propellers and took me a while to realize how to calibrate the GPS.
Ultimately, it was a disappointment when I first tried it as I was not able to get it to work properly and use the controls as well as the camera. Although the camera did connect, and the picture looked great…but I obviously did not get to see how it looked on the move that whole weekend.
The next weekend I used an android Samsun Galaxy Note 8 (I used iOS originally) and I was able to finally get it to work.
Upon chucking it into the water, it seemed well balanced. The first thing I tested, of course, was the camera on the water. It looked great on my phone. The angle can be controlled up and down but that’s pretty much it. The picture chopped a few times but other than that it remained pretty steady. The controls are sort of easy if you have any gaming experience (especially shooters). The controller feels a bit bulky and the sticks are a bit weird and pointy, but it is easy to get used to. The drone does have some power, so it takes a little while to get the feel of the speed. Turning is easy and responsive. I placed it on the water upside down to test the self-righting feature and it took a bit of trying, but it always worked. The sonar is something to play around and I really have no use for that. I never lost the connection after my initial issues. The return home feature worked well.
In the end, I think this is a fun piece of technology -especially if you are into drones. I do wish Powervision would have included a second battery to extend playtime. Based on the price, I think it is a good value, albeit a bit on the expensive side. I see this as more of a lifestyle/toy item if you can afford it. I still would recommend it even after the first let down.

The PowerDolphin drone is fun. It goes pretty fast and far on the water. I liked zipping around on the lake. The fish finder looked awesome but I wasn't able to see the actual fish or catch any. It was cool to see all the radar blips, water temp, and depth. I wish I could switch the measurements out of metric. Also the setup was very confusing and took half an hour to finally get the boat running. Driving with the phone screen was very easy but you can't see where you are going with the camera. So I didn't go to the farthest distance since I needed to maintain line of sight. Also when I enabled the home feature the boat came hauling towards me and launched out of the water. I will never call it home again. It ended up scratching up the bottom of the boat and the PowerSeeker. Luckily the damage just seems to be cosmetic. I couldn't get the remote to connect to my phone with USB. I liked the feel of the remote in my hand. The PowerDolphin responded very well with it. The propellers seem very sturdy but you get extras and if you register you get a life time of replacements. The pictures looked pretty cool and it was fun navigating the camera under water. The video wasn't as good of quality as I'd thought. My biggest issue was just trying to figure out how to get everything synced up so I could use it. The instructions lack a lot of detail. I think this is an awesome tool for fishing but it causes a lot of commotion so you'll need to let the water rest for the fish to calm down. The camera needs to stay in the initial position when driving it because it causes the drone to dive under water and just not drive very well. I'd recommend attaching something colorful to it to better track it in the water. Also the storage bag that it comes with is very flimsy. I don't trust the drone to not get damaged in it.

The Power Dolphin wizard is a very interesting piece of hardware in the drone space. I was very excited with the idea of a water drone which I could take to the lake to capture video. The hardware, while larger than I was expecting is sleek and futuristic looking. Besides the drone, it comes with nearly everything one would need: Carrying case for the drone and controller, extra propellers, chargers, and a single battery. It would be nice if it came with two since the charge ranged from about 20-40 minutes based on mixed usage of fast speeds and the slower underwater mode. BestBuy nor PowerVision sell extra batteries through their sites yet.
My experience getting everything setup was straight forward. I downloaded the app while I charged the battery. There are several options to connect the controller and phone to the drone. I do wish they provided short cables for iPhone and Android phones for the direct USB connection to the remote so that I could keep everything together in the bag rather than having to remember to bring a cable. Remote WiFi mode did work well in my testing though – I wasn’t afraid to venture far away from the dock and the return home feature worked like a charm.
When controlling the drone, the app can be very complicated. Between all the attachments (bait, sonar), modes (Underwater, Normal, Cruise), and specific capabilities associated with each (normal and cruise restrict camera movement) it can be unclear how to do certain things. It took me a couple drives before I felt comfortable using the camera and navigating at high speeds. The interface is quite cluttered with all the buttons and sonar screen - it would be nice if there were more app options that allows you to only display what you need and remove buttons you may not use - or at least hide them so you can focus more on the video.
The star is the camera and it did a fantastic job capturing great video both underwater and above. The 4k video was crisp and had good color/light balance. There are other options for lower resolution higher frame rate video which would be great for sport shots. I was also impressed with video transmission to the app – it hardly stuttered even when pushing the maximum distance for the remote – around 1500 feet with me standing on the second story of the dock – around 13 feet above the water.
After testing at the lake I do have some durability concerns. A single run into a dock post cracked the front plastic and left it not fitting – this later required some gorilla glue to keep it attached. Internal components seem to be waterproofed well, but overall the plastic shell and inner support seems thin to hold up to any repeated real world damage.
Overall, it’s a blast to drive and takes great video. For the family who frequents the lake it’s a versatile toy and tool – just need extra batteries to keep the fun going!

Having owned and operated drones for a number of years, it took a moment to get past the idea of a "water drone" type of concept. I was not sure if this was an RC boat or something else.
After my first run with this, I have found it to be a fun "grown up" toy that is fun to scoot across the water and to film underwater.
I have a cabin on a clear lake, so I was quickly drawn in by the underwater views along my shoreline. While I did not have time in my initial run to do so, I am eager to give the sonar a run-through next week to get a topographical view of the lake bottom.
In regard to setup, I have learned with my drones that you need to test your setup at home before you go into the field. In this instance that meant some trial and error to learn how to either enable a USB connection between my phone and the controller - or to disconnect my home WiFi connection in order to connect my phone to the controller via its WiFi connection. This took about 10 minutes to sort out.
I then filled the tub with water to make sure that I knew how to get the unit started. This required me viewing an online video to figure out that I needed to press and hold the unlock button on the remote in order to unlock the motors and operate them.
I am certain that this at-home testing saved me headaches once that I got to the cabin (where I had limited time to make an initial run with this unit). That initial run was very fun. The unit is pretty quick and responsive. The mobile app is intuitive and the controller is easy to use. The ability to change the camera position from above water to below water is also easy.
So far, so good. I'm liking this water drone and am looking forward to testing some more advanced features...

Pros:
Solidly built
Everything included
Fast charging
Long battery life
Great video and picture quality
Easy to control
Easy to setup out of the box
Cons:
Doesn't fit my iPhone in the controller
Charger gets warm
This water drone exceeded expectations. The large box safely packaged the contents and everything I needed to get up and running was included. The drone was larger than I expected which is great for visibility when using in the water. The white color makes it easy to see while you're using as well. The drone is very sleek looking. I love that you can use your phone or the controller however I have a large iPhone and it didn't fit unless I took the case off and I won't use my phone without the case.
The drone speed is faster than I expected which makes taking it out even more fun if you are just taking pictures and videos. I haven't had a chance to use any of the bait tools yet and want to research fish and game laws near me before attempting anything. I've tried this in the river and a large private pond filled with koi fish. The pictures and videos load quickly and I had no issues at all. This reminds me a bit of a remote controlled boat almost with how this thing glides across the water. My toddler loves watching this and we've used it more than I originally anticipated. The fish finder and mapping is an awesome addition as we do enjoy fishing as well. Having a multi use drone definitely makes this price point more reasonable in my opinion.
Charging is quick just be aware that it can get warm, I only charge it on my kitchen counter away from other objects just in case. This is a great tool for fishing or fun with the family and I recommend this to anyone living near water and looking for an out of the box idea for fun.

So I was worried this was going to be an RC boat with a camera. That is NOT the case! First it’s very fast (tested at around 35mph on the water.) The mapping worked flawlessly for my local fishing holes (tested against another top rated sounder). Believe it or not I actually hooked a small mouth bass With the included line attachment. The battery is a great size however I was in fear of losing the unit and never let it drop below 15%. The only reason I deducted a star was the included light for the camera. It’s not near bright enough when the water isn’t crystal clear. Being able to see the unit on top of the water makes it much easier to control if your new to drones.

Let me start with the awesome features, the ability to dump food to attract fish in the water is awesome. The dolphin is quite speedy and fun to whip around the water. The camera quality is good. The app is easy to use, especially if you have experience with a drone in the past that uses an app. Very similar. Comes with a good carrying case... the Eh, not deal breakers but could be better, with a little choppy water, I was unable to find a speed where I could actually keep the camera above water and use the screen view to see where I was going. With the camera in the most upright position, the dolphin is flat in front and tends to dip down into the water sinking the ship. It’s hard to drive it out far and explore because of this lack of vision. What this would absolutely amazing for is slowly exploring reefs in clear blue water, which I don’t have in Maryland. Going to try some flat lake water and will update my score should I have better luck, but if I can’t use the screen to navigate on the go, I can’t give any more than 3 stars max

I've always wished someone would create a drone for water. So many times I've wanted something to take on the boat and explore areas I wouldn't want to take my boat for fear of damage. Now I can.
The PowerDolphin is pretty big - bigger than I was expecting. The benefit of this is it will be much more stable in the water, however it does take up a bit of space in the boat. I tried to flip the PowerDolphin over in the water and wasn't able to, although it was rather calm on the day I was testing.
There is an adjustable 4K camera mounted on the front that takes pretty amazing video. You have to manually adjust the position of the camera, but what's really nice is you can take video under water if your water is clear enough.
Admittedly, I once I started using this on the water, I turned into a 12 year old again. Jumping waves, weaving back and forth and having the best time.
PowerVision supplies an SD card as well as a carrying bag. I thought this was a nice touch so I wouldn't have to spend more money to get started.
Some improvements, some might exist already I didn't find them in my time out:
1. Have an adjustment for the inputs. The initial thrust seems high and if you're in a tight area or trying not to disturb wildlife, the initial forward motion isn't very smooth. On open water, it's very nice to have as it is.
2. Add a "follow" mode. It would be fun to record someone wakeboarding or waterskiiing. It's tough to hand the controls over to someone and expect them to know how to use it. There has to be some way to have the PD follow the mobile device.

I have had the dolphin for several months. Used on lakes and rivers around Wisconsin. Despite what others have said, the set-up is pretty easy. I own DJI drones, so this is similar.
Pros:
-Easy to set up and operate. Especially if you are used to flying.
-Camera works very well. Good to great pics. Underwater pics in murky water are aided somewhat by the headlight.
-Seems pretty durable. I have hit rocks and docks with only a couple minor scratches. Bigger than it looks, good in waves up to 1-1.5 feet.
Cons:
-I bought a 2nd battery. They are hard to find. Battery life is only 2 hours in the Underwater mode, which is a very slow speed for taking underwater pics. At full speed in Normal mode, I only get about 25 minutes.
-Shop around, the prices vary a lot from retailer.
