I have yet to get the “grill” taste but that I expected that. The grill heats up fairly quick and The fan does help remove the smoke. The griddle is probably my favorite part of the grill. From omelettes to pancakes to fried rice, this grill has versatility. Overall I am satisfied with the grill. However, I would not purchase at full price. I got it on sale for $70
