The Halo franchise has defined XBOX across two generations and is beloved by a multitude of gamers. The second game in particular is fondly remembered for the 'virtual couch,' and tremendous online game play. The third game ushered in the XBOX 360 and also featured phenomenal on-line modes including a tremendous co-operative single player campaign designed with 4 players in mind. While the fourth installment had 343 industries taking over the reins and did well from a single player standpoint, but never managed to recreate the online magic of it's predecessors. For a collection taking all of this and turning it into 60 fps at 1080p represents a very big pair of shoes to fill.
Sadly, they remain markedly vacant.
The game looks great, but it is a remaster and not completely built up on the XBOX ONE console so graphically it won't blow you away in the same manner other games this season will, but the frame rate (in the single player especially) is impressive and the visuals are clean while staying true to the source material. Similarly, the audio is fantastic and reminds us of how important the scores to the various Halo games have been. Also remastered in many cases, the soundtrack really helps to set the tone of the games and is a delight to be experienced in surround sound.
But then we get to performance, especially online, and this unravel quickly. In short this game was released extremely prematurely. To say the state of the game at release is 'beta,' is a bit of an understatement. It's probably more appropriate to say it was in the 'alpha' stage since that's how it ships to the consumer. From the very get go ('DAY ONE' as Microsoft so proudly puts on their other titles) a 20GB patch is required to 'play' the game properly. Of course it still leaves every single online aspect of the game (and many offline parts of the game, including achievements) completely unusable, which is why just 10 days later a 1.5 GB patch was released and in the interim every playlist has been changed to allow more people to play since the matchmaking is so broken having more games with less people in each isn't possible.
343 Industries has slowly been addressing issues (not to any satisfactory level at any point, mind you) and focused on the multiplayer while completely glossing over the completely broken co-operative game. What was once a rock-solid, and thoroughly enjoyable aspect of Halo 3 is left completely broken with pathetically unnecessarily lag (evident of shoddy netcode which was also seen on 343 industries' last outing - Halo:CE Anniversary for the Xbox 360) which spans across EACH and every single title included.
I do not know who to blame for this abomination. 343 industries could have failed to test the game completely, or they may have been pushed to rush out an unfinished game for a holiday season. Either way, I purchased an XBOX ONE for it never imaging it wouldn't work flawlessly and could not be any more disappointed short of the game spontaneously leaping of the poor console it tortures, slapping my girlfriend, and releasing my dog into the wild in the middle of a winter storm.
Hyperbole aside, this game as a whole is broken. It is unclear how long it will take to fix it, but the very fact that it was sent out to consumers in such an unacceptable state is inexcusable. It's equivalent to buying a DVD box set, finding out half the discs don't work and then waiting for patches to be released slowly. It's not worth the time of the money. Maybe in a few months, but in the mean time save your money, time, and effort for another game that works the minute you take it home. Check back in a few months, by then the promise may have been realized and this game could well end up being one of the great deals of the early life of the XBOX ONE, but until then, it's just a sad shame.

Finally, all my favorite Halo games on one system. However, there are some bugs being worked out, and don't expect anything amazingly new, but the graphics are improved, gameplay remains the same, and it's just good old Halo!

Incredibly full featured package. Each Halo Master Chief game has the full campaign and coop experiences. The star of the bunch is probably Halo 2, which was faithfully remastered and looks terrific. But I have to say my favorites have been playing Halos 3 and 4 with their beautiful 360 visuals updated with new lighting effects and 1080p/60fps.
Unfortunately, the missing fifth star is a result of its totally botched multiplayer system. For some reason I still find myself waiting more than actually playing. In addition, it feels like I need to start from scratch after each match. Please fix this bungie... jk, 343!

I will skip over the problems that are currently going on with the matchmaking, those will be fixed shortly. However, I have noticed immediately that there are several features that were just glazed over (customization of MC, previewing of custom colors, sound hiccups in campaign, etc). To me, this feels like a beta test at this point.
I hope that 343 is listening to the criticism and will be fixing these problems with updates. It is just disappointing in this day that a lot of these issues were not taken care of before release. I know that 343 had a lot of developers working on this game, but it was ultimately Microsoft's and their responsibility to ensure a clean game at release.
This is a fun game to play, and no doubt I will enjoy it...but it needs buttoned up!

It was awesome to finally get the whole halo series in one place, Halo 2 looks absolutely amazing with the refresh. If you are a Halo fan, it's an easy buy because you can play all 4 games off one disc.

Microsoft consolidated several Halo games into one huge hub. Then they were working on Halo 5 at the same time. It's hard to imagine the chaos that ensued.
It's seamless, you can start one game and flip through various sections of each game. If you liked the old halo you'll love this one. You can switch rendering engines to see the old style and new.
It had some day one issues that drug out until January 2015. You can actually get a decent game now. But there are a lot of great Halo players out there and expect the worst.
I got a free month of Xbox Live for my troubles as did anyone who purchased the game.
I like Halo, I love the Halo 4 multiplayer. Long live Master Chief!

I have owned and played all of the original Halo games from the first to 360's remastered versions of the originals. I was hoping for a little bit more with the Xbox One remastered personally. Gameplay and visuals are great, but I was hoping they would have remastered the original games with updated game engines to be more like Halo 4 at least. Keeping the original levels intact, but updating the models and characters to be than prettier versions of the old ones. It just seems like wasted potential.
Would I recommend it, definitely. Especially looking at the original versus the new you can see a big difference. I just thought they would have used a newer engine on the older games to update the gameplay.

This package is a great deal if only for the campaigns. Halo has the best story and game play of any shooter. Only problem with this game is the fact that its 3 weeks after release and the multiplayer (which is a huge part of the package) is still utterly broken. Most of the time you can't find a game. If you do its likely to be small and very lopsided. And after you finish the game good luck finding a second match. The state of the multiplayer portion is absolutely unacceptable but it you are looking for great single/co-op campaign this is still a good deal.

Four great games at a really good price. The ability to easily switch between original graphics/sound to updated at the push of a button also pretty cool.

I bought this game when it first was released. Back then i would have given it a very low rating. But now that the game actually works, its great. If you've played Halo, then you know what you're gonna get with these games. Thats simply because they're old.
But since this is Halo, you can expect a fantastic multiplayer package of all 4 games rolled into one. Not too mention that Halo ODST was also included into the game afterward. Haven't played all the DLC maps over the years either? No problem. They have arrived.
Enjoy this awesome retread of the greatest franchise in Xbox history!

Four games in one, this purchase is a great value. The single player campaigns generally work fine, and it's great having them all in one place.
But to be honest, I bought this game for the multiplayer, which has been broken since release. Granted, there have been many updates and the situation has gotten better with each update, it still doesn't meet par in my opinion. This is the reason I haven't given this game a fifth star.
That said, when the game does work correctly (and it does most of the time now), it's loads of fun. I would recommend this title for any Halo fan, or as a great introduction for anyone interested in becoming one.

Absolute buy for the xbox one. Whether you are new to the series or coming back to play it for the (fill in the blank) time. Love all the games in the series and wished ODST and Reach could have been included, but nonetheless its an amazing price for what you're getting. Online is still broken from what I hear, but that's not why I purchased it. I wanna replay the entire series in preparation for Halo 5 and go after all those achievements and terminals.

The game play is excellent. I love the story and the updated graphics are wonderful. 4 games for the price of one. I can't wait for the updated version of Halo 3: ODST.

This Master Chief bundle of Halo games is fantastic and very nicely arranged. Each of the included Halo games are all accessible in a single easy to use menu! That means you do NOT have to reload the games separately or hunt for separate installations; they're all cleanly loaded from a unified single menu. The graphics also seem cleaned up for Xbox One, and there feels like less lag playing online (again probably because the Xbox One has more CPU power than Xbox 360). Overall: This is a lot of fun and a great value!

This is a very nice package, basically filled with 4 full games - 4 campaigns and 4 multiplayers with overhauled visuals and new forge canvases. While some of the games may be old, their graphics have been pumped up for modern visuals.
I was especially impressed with some of the lighting parts in the games, especially in Halo 2 Anniversary.
If you have an xbox one, you must own this game. And be wary of some server issues. These kinks will get ironed out in the first week on release so please don't be frustrated.
