The only real improvements 343 made to the game is redesigning Halo 2 for the Xbox One in high definition. Outside of this, the rest of the games still feel and play the exact same. Which is great, until you expect the multi-player system to function in the same way. 343 managed to take an online system that had been designed and functional for 10 solid years and completely made it unplayable. After 2 weeks, 343 still can't get the multi-player system up and running. The last match I was able to connect to took about 45 minutes to join and setup. This is on November 22, 2014. The day after they released another 1.45 GB patch to "fix" the game.
Don't buy it. Vote with your wallet.

When the game originally launched they had major problems with the matchmaking/multiplayer. It has been almost 3 weeks now and it is getting "better". They are taking 4 Halo games and cramming them all into 1 disc w/ matchmaking.
The game is amazing when it works. It will get better with time.

The first few games that we all like so much are great. Once Bungie handed off the reigns to Microsoft the franchise went to complete crud. This conglomeration of games is nice if you don't have any of them at all. Be prepared for a horrid networking experience though. Matchmaking and online play is/was terrible. I specifically bought this so I could play the Halo 5 beta. The beta was pure crud. Networking was almost completely broken and matchmaking was crazy long, that is if you were ever dropped into a game at all. 343 Studies is not up to the Franchise game building task, period.
Oh, and 343/MS releasing ODST for "free" to make up for the crumby experience is like rubbing salt in an open wound. ODST is the Windows ME or Vista of the Halo series. Pure Crud.
