POP Back to Basics, Something New?

Overall Prince of Persia the Forgotten Sands is on par with the series and has a few new twists to keep it interesting. Graphics are polished nicely and but not as fresh looking as the last game "Prince of Persia". That is the best POP game so far. If you like the puzzle solving, repeat of special powers, and fighting then you will like playing Prince of Persia. The length of the game is lil over ten hours depending how seasoned of a gamer you are and difficulty. The only negative thing I will give the game is the character model much like Splinter Cell has changed and not in a good way. It was obvious that this was a movie likness tie in, ehh. No matter the gameplay is solid and story is ok. I just like the series and wish it was more like the last POP installment which seemed to have more depth. UbiSoft needs to stop changing the characters we have enjoyed playing, slight changes are good but this Prince has no appeal what so ever. So I give the overall game 4 stars!

I loved Prince of Persia Trilogy on (PS2/Xbox) and while Prince of Persia (PS3/360) was not as great of a game, I still liked it. This game, the way it looked, I didn't have much expectations, but I was surprised. Here is why.
PROS.
AWESOME SOT LIKE GAMEPLAY: This game goes back to the roots of Prince of Persia. Sands of Time trilogy (SOT) wowed me with running on the wall, jumping from ledge to ledge and reversing time type of gameplay mechanics. In this game they go back to the roots and give you more of that gameplay.
NEW MAGICAL AND ACROBATIC ABILITIES: In addition to what mentioned above you get some new moves and magical abilities. Most notable of them all is to freeze water for given amount of time. Developers have wonderfully make use of this ability give this game a novel feeling. Freezing and unfreezing water with proper timing makes it very important to move from one part of the palace to another (Very difficult to explain in words, have to see the gameplay to understand it). In addition to freezing water you also have other unique abilities such as swift jumps, crow hooks and one VERY UNIQUE one. But I don't want to spoil much here.
MASSES AND VARIETY ENEMIES: In this game they have made good use of next gen console processor power in enemy battles. Unlike previous Prince of Persia games where you had 5 or 8 enemies at most, in this one you will have 15-20 enemies (if not more) at the same time. While initial enemies will look the same, as you progress in the game, variety of enemies will appear that will require you to change your strategy in defeating them.
POWERS AND SWORD UPGRADES: Defeating enemies will give you orbs and these orbs can be used to upgrade your combat and magical powers. You can make your attack stronger, life bar larger, have fire walk power, ice sword power, stone armor power, wind explosion power or you can increase the time to reverse time. Each one of these can be upgraded up to 4 levels. Personally I loved the RPG element they added to this game.
DECENT STORY: Not much to describe here. Voice actors are good and the game has decent story. Don't want to spoil too much.
LOTS OF TRAPS: To many of you, this may belong in cons section, but I personally like challenges. In addition to acrobatic gameplay, there are tons of traps in the game that requires you to successfully guide prince through them. To me this was very challenging but the fun part of the game.
CHALLENGE ROOMS: After you beat the campaigns, you can attempt challenge rooms to test your skills. While there are not that many of them, they are better than nothing.
CONS.
FEELING OF CHEAPNESS: I enjoyed the game, but when I played it, I just can't help but to feel that this game was either made on low budget or shortage of time. Unlike previous prince of Persia games where artwork was the strength of the game, this game didn't carry out the legacy. Sure things look great in 720p resolution, but in terms of artstyle and graphics, it look similar to PS2/Xbox games.
BOSSES: There are bosses in this game but honestly they are not impressive. I love the game with strong bosses, especially those who require unique strategies to beat. Unfortunately, the bosses in this game are not much fun and can be beaten using mostly the same strategies.
SANDS OF TIME TRILOGY CONNECTION: According to developers, this game takes place between first two games of SOT trilogy. So I was really hoping they have some information on DHAKA or some sort of connection to him. But to best of my knowledge, they didn't. So somewhat disappointed.
CONCLUSION:
Honestly, if they had put some more money into this game and had not pressured the artists to release it along with Prince of Persia the Movie, I think this would be a five star game. Nevertheless, I loved it. I think if you are Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Trilogy fan, then you should definitely give this a shot, especially now that it is selling so cheap. Chances are you will enjoy it.

Like in all PoP games, timing is everything. There are no game-overs, but having to return to a checkpoint to try it ALL OVER AGAIN can get really monotonous. The graphics and CGI (the pre-game cinematic was the best out of the entire game, and it was done well) were done moderately well, but also sluggish and glitchy. The time spent going back and re-doing the entire level from your last checkpoint was ridiculous considering how short the game was. The story was short, bad, and needed a lot more development. The voice-acting/script needs improvement as well. Overall, if you want a good next-gen PoP game that wasn't rushed into production to beat the release of the new and also disappointing movie, buy the singularly titled video game that came out In December of 2008.

the game is pretty repetitive for most of the time. you do the same thing in almost every phase and sometimes can't figured out what you need to do in order to complete the level because it came without any directions or instructions. this is a total waste of time and killed the fun factor. if you liked the first game, then this is probably fine. if however, you are new to this like i am, then pass it by, there are better games for less, like the James Bond- Quantum of Solice is a much better game. this is not worth the $11.

I'll agree that some people will pick this game up that aren't PoP fans, and the truth is that if you can get this game for less than $60 it's definitely worth it. It's a rhythmic game where once you get the feel for it you'll breeze by and enjoy the plot. What really caught me as "awesome" is how you can beat the game, setting yourself up nicely with abilities, and then get another playthough with the same exact abilities, thus furthering your powers on a harder difficulty.

It started off very slow. The collision detection was off at many different times during the game. The fighting was slow and sloppy. Magic powers were weak. Still, it's a prince of persia game, which can always be fun. Climbing all over everything and killing crazy sand zombies.

This is a decent game with great graphics and some puzzles that are rathering challenging at times. It's your typical Prince of Persia game where there is wall running, avoiding deadly traps, and fighting your typical enemy. The game overall is pretty easy to complete and can be beat in roughly five to seven hours. Though it does get a little repetitive the puzzles that involve you going through obstacles and traps do get progressively more challenging/complex. Overall, I am glad I didn't pay full price for this game and I would recommend this game as a rental as you can easily beat it in a few days.

I remember the PS2 entries of this game being much more entertaining. That said, this is still a very enjoyable game. it has the acrobatics that made them fun, and adds elemental controls to mix things up, but it still felt slow and the stop/go of battles got repetative. Worth $30 or less, but not full price.

Great game! Sure, it's not anything super special, your bored of playing halo or black opps all the time, it's a great cheap $10 getaway. The puzzles are fun and challenging, but not impossible by any means. It's also a good way to get achievements.
