Jasper Tempest is a tenured Lecturer for Cambridge University’s Institute of Criminology. He is also obsessive-compulsive, pedantic, precise, brilliant, and hiding a secret about his father’s death. One of his former students successfully involves him in a murder case despite his objections. An involvement that over multiple cases grows into a paid consultancy with the local police department. (Referred to as his “hobby” by fellow academics.) The professor’s personality also includes frequent instances of daydreams. Each case brings up daydreams; for instance an American cheerleader-like routine in one and a Disneyesque wall of tuneful tea pots in another. Characterizations of the Professor, multiple police detectives, and university staff are very good. Filming in Cambridge and on Cambridge University’s campus reinforces the series’ feeling of authenticity. Fans of “Death in Paradise” will recognize the actor portraying the Professor. For that matter, those who also enjoyed the tri-wizard competition in Harry Potter will recognize his mother. In general, acting and scripting are very good. An English “murder mystery” worth watching.

I loved this program and would suggest it to anyone who loves British mysteries .Ben Miller who stars in it does a great job . He is a cross between Doc Martin and the DCI in the first and second season of Death In Paradise.

This is the British version of the highly-acclaimed Belgian series, only painted with a lighter palette of colors and compacted somewhat, with a tiny bit more leaning toward police procedural. Still dark enough for anyone who wants noir or complex characters, this is the avatar you want if subtitles are not the thing for you.
