I do not write bad reviews but would like to share my experience with Protocol's Customer Service so you will think twice before buying one of their products. Below is my email exchange and I hope you find it helpful in your decision making process. This was purchased in another state (as a gift by my wife) so it could not be returned to the store, Protocol offers voice mail service as no one has picked up the phone anytime I have called. I hope this is helpful to you.
My EMail:
I recently purchased your Flix helicopter and when I try to fly it, it shakes badly and flies erratically and as a result, I cannot get a good video. The box was sealed when I purchased it so I am assuming that is was new when the store received it from your factory. I am obviously disappointed due to the fact that it had a retail price of $140.00 and it should be of better quality. I would greatly appreciate your help in rectifying this situation by fixing it, replacing it, or substituting it with a better helicopter.
Their response:
Please return it back to the retailer for an exchange if not you may ship it back here to claim warranty. I have included detailed instructions below:
Please NOTE: our warranty is only valid for new items, note items that have been played with or crashed will be returned back to you. In order to be able to get a replacement thru the Warranty.
1. the helicopter has to be defective out of the box
2. you need a receipt or gift receipt
3. you have to return the helicopter back to us with a $10.00 check per helicopter for return shipping . We will check helicopter to make sure it was not due to crashing and if the helicopter is defective we send you a new one if it has been crashed we will send back to you .

IR Remote is problematic

This is an amazing little device and after charging worked right out of box. I have not been able to get it very far off the ground though because I'm a very timid pilot and I don't want to ruin the blades (although I have already had a few minor crashes and it has held up well - no noticeable nicks on the blades and still looks and works like brand new). The reason for 3 stars is mostly because it uses an infrared (IR) remote. Although the IR remote works amazing well, it's still line of site with limited distance. This means that if you lose contact with the copter it remains running where you left off and if it's going where you don't want it to, you need to regain contact or CRASH! For this reason alone, I'm not recommending. Also, although the unit comes with instructions including a brief flying tutorial, some things like an on board LED on the copter control board are not explained (it definitely indicates power on but I think it also indicates charge??).
In the future I will strongly prefer radio control. It's still a pretty cool toy with amazing capabilities for the price and I plan on continuing to work (play) with this device until I have some semblance of piloting skills (it's a poor mechanic who blames his tools) .

Motor Burned Out After 10 Minutes

My son received the Flix II Helicopter for Christmas. It lasted for about 10 minutes and then the bottom rotor blade stopped spinning. On troubleshooting, we noticed that the back motor was not spinning the gears for the bottom rotor blade. It looks like the back motor is burned out. Although it is past the 30 day warrantee from when it was purchased on-line, we hope that Best Buy will give us a refund.

Problems...

I really liked that this copter came with a cam. It's also a good looking copter, but...from the very first flight I had problems with "hovering." It just would not hover correctly and I basically had to fight with the hover throttle to keep it where I wanted it. Was going to return it for exchange or refund, and had minor wipe-out that broke something dealing with the propeller, now I cannot return the heli! So, I'm out $60 or $70 dollars!!! Not happy at all. *If this heli would not have had the problem hovering, it would have been my favorite heli. I have 2 others.
