This movie is destined to find a place in my family's all-time favorites! Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut offers wit, warmth and relationship angst against a backdrop of a home for aging musicians. Be sure to watch all the way through the credits--it includes a montage of the many supporting players who had prominent musical careers in their prime. Billy Connolly's character, Wilf, provides comic relief, and it's awfully fun to hear his Scottish burr. Maggie Smith is reliably wonderful as her character deals with the anxiety of moving to the retirement home, unsure of what her reception will be, especially from her ex-husband who is a resident. They performed the quartet from Rigoletto long ago, and now all four opera stars from that career apex are living in the same home. Don't miss this wonderful movie.

Quartet is a marvelous movie about retired musicians living in a senior community. The residents are preparing a musical show to help the finances of their community. There are great talents among these retirees and also rivalry and intrigues! Aging is part of the community, too. For someone who loves classical music, it is delightful. The famous quartet in the last act of Rigoletto (Verdi) comes together with reconciled great singers at the end of the spectacle. Maggie Smith, Michael Cambon and others are excellent in their roles and Dustin Hoffman is an accomplished director. I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD.

FOUR RETIRED MUSICIANS IN A SENIOR HOME FOR MUSICIANS ARE THE FOCUS OF THE STORY. THE MOVIE IS POIGNANT AND FUNNY AND COMPLETELY FULL OF MUSIC. THE MOVIE UNFOLDS WITH THE STORY AND IDIOSYNCRACIES OF THE QUARTET REVEALED WITH AND THROUGH MUSIC, MUCH OF IT, THOUGH NOT ALL, CLASSICAL AND AS MUCH IN THE BACKGROUND AS IN THE FOREGROUND. THE ENDING SURPRISED ME, WHICH I ALWAYS APPRECIATE IN A MOVIE. BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY. FILMED IN A BEAUTIFUL AREA OF ENGLAND. DIRECTORIAL DEBUT BY DUSTIN HOFFMAN. BONUS IF YOU LIKE THE "QUARTET FROM RIGOLETTO."

I saw this movie in the theater and couldn't wait to purchase it to watch with my Mother who introduced me to Classical music at a young age. the whole cast is superb filled with older musicians who still have a lot of verve and talent. If you like Music especially Opera this is a must see at any age. The soundtrack is equally as awesome!

The movie didn't quite meet my expectations. The potential for a great movie is there but some how the storyline never quite got off the ground. It seems like the ending was forced.

Maggie Smith is great as always but the entire ensemble cast shines. It's never too late to find/renew a love. You're never too old to share your gifts and make a difference.
