A great toothbrush with a few drawbacks

Overall, I like Quip's Smart Electric Toothbrush. I chose the Black-Metal one and, for comparison's sake, evaluated it based on another brand of electric toothbrush I have been using for years. The good: It feels well-made, sturdy, it was very easy to setup (see my notes re the app below) and I feel like this toothbrush would last a long time. The power of the sonic vibrations surprised me a little - it's a strong little electric toothbrush! The middle - Not a fan of the app for two reasons. The app is easy to download, use, pair to toothbrushes. It seems to be accurate and I can see value in helping improve oral health. My concern is bringing the phone in to the bathroom - even just to brush teeth - is something I don't see myself doing often. The bathroom is a "no-phone-zone" in our household. I also found the app to be distracting in the wrong way for me, personally, and likely wouldn't use it going forward. However, based on the app and what it can do, it definitely warrants an honorable mention. The bottom line: for the value, I think Quip has a great concept here. It feels like a toothbrush much more expensive than it actually is. The replaceable battery is a plus, and although I have chosen not to use the automatically replenishing toothbrush heads feature - this could be a great option as a reminder to change out those toothbrush heads! For the value, I would recommend this electric toothbrush.

    Compact, lightweight, fun rewards program

I really like the Quip toothbrush, but could take or leave the app that goes along with it. I like the simple design of the toothbrush, which is much more like a traditional toothbrush than the other electronic toothbrushes on the market. It’s also quiet and lightweight. I don’t love the shape of the brush head, though. It’s very long and flat, and can be difficult to navigate in my mouth comfortably compared to smaller brush heads. I also wish there were angled bristles to get behind my back teeth more. The concept of the app (educating people about brushing more effectively, and providing incentives to brush more often) is great, but is only so-so in execution. The app’s layout does not properly scale on my smaller phone screen, making the text and numbers difficult to read, and entering text was really confusing when my on-screen keyboard covered up the fields I was trying to enter. Also, I was hoping the app would give some feedback about evenly brushing all areas of the mouth or missed spots. All that said, keeping score and offering incentives for brushing certainly makes me less likely to skip a brushing. Overall, I definitely like the Quip toothbrush and would recommend it to others. If you already have great brushing habits, you may not get as much benefit from the smart connectivity and app integration, but if you participate in the rewards program, the value is certainly there.

    Great Travel Toothbrush

The Quip Smart Electric Toothbrush is a great attempt to simplify using an electric toothbrush. It small size, light weight and simple design are the key features of this brush. If you've never used an electric toothbrush, this is the one to use. It runs on 2-minute cycles with 30-second reminders. Just place in your mouth and press the "Q" button on the brush and your in business. What could be easier? To record your brushing record, Quip has a Bluetooth app on Apple and Android devices to help you track your brushings. I do have some negatives. The brush head is slightly larger than other electrics that makes it harder to reach small molar places. Oral-B & Sonicare use spinning bristles to reach those hard to get places. Quip simply vibrates. The other gripe is that the Quip uses a standard battery. There is no indicator light letting you know when the battery is low. Yes, this Quip toothbrush does what it promises. I would not want to use it as my everyday brush for the reasons noted above. But it would be more highly recommended as a travel toothbrush.

This Quip toothbrush is a really nice toothbrush. Coming from a philips sonicare, I found this one a little more gentle on the gums and the vibration less noisy. The packaging was really nice and easy to set up with their app. The app is very user friendly, however to me serves no purpose. Perhaps for a family who wants to monitor their children’s oral hygiene or if you’re very interested in knowing how long you brush your teeth for and the intensity of your brushing. You get “rewarded” points based on your brushing which can be redeemed for gifts such as a tote bag or charger or floss machine. Overall it’s a nice tooth brush and does a great job.

I find that it is inaccurate in counting how many times you brush your teeth. App isn't very good either, you are better off buying a cheaper one tbh. It is a nice color and good for aesthetic purposes i guess.

I was excited to receive this electric toothbrush in order to see what it was about and how effective it would be on brushings. I have an Oral B 8000 Genius electric toothbrush that works well. Regarding Quip, I was surprised by its size as it compares to a regular-sized toothbrush. Also, I like the holder as it can be attached to a convenient place for daily brushings. The brushings with this toothbrush have been a mixed bag experience for me. The motor is just not powerful enough in my opinion as I did not feel like I was getting the normal cleaning that I likened to a dental cleaning with my Oral B. However, I do appreciate the 2-minute timer that encourages effective brushings. Quip offers a subscription service for head replacements at nominal pricing. I am reluctant to get it at this time because personally, I am burned out on apps and subscription services; seemingly, everything is connected to either or both in today’s society. Overall, I would recommend this toothbrush if you are in need of a secondary toothbrush or you desire an electric toothbrush that is reasonably priced.

    Not for Me

I've been using a Philips Sonicare toothbrush for ages and wanted to try out the Quip for the cheaper refills and easier portability. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. First, the good. The Quip is lightweight and runs off a single AAA battery. No charger to plug in and no charging base. The Quip comes with a holder that sticks to your mirror or wall (don't worry, it comes off easily and the sticky part can be cleaned off and reused) and has a bottom portion that can be unscrewed to clean it out occasionally. Also, the refills are dirt cheap compared to most other electric toothbrushes. You can sign up for a plan that sends you a new head and AAA battery every three months for about the price of a large iced coffee at your local coffee house. Mine even came with a code to make the first shipment free. Also included is Bluetooth connectivity to track your brushing through and app. If you're the kind of person who likes to gamify things you'll enjoy it. Otherwise it's superfluous and completely unnecessary. The important question questions is if it works or not! Unfortunately I didn't feel it was any more effective than a manual toothbrush. The vibrations didn't feel anywhere near as effective as my Sonicare and my mouth didn't feel as lean afterwards. I'm also leery of using an app and signing up for an account to use a personal care product. I question what Quip does with it's user data. Also there are few directions and it mentions to download the Quip app. There are several apps with that name in the Play store and you need to find one for the toothbrush. A simple QR code in the manual could solve that. Maybe I missed one... The Quip is probably great for travel (the mount can be used for travel by putting the brush into it upside down) if I ever get to travel again. Otherwise, it just isn't for me.

    Sleek but underpowered

I have been using the Quip Smart toothbrush for a week or so and have been moderately impressed, but I have some reservations. The sleek all-metal handle is easy to grip and not nearly as bulky as the electric toothbrush it replaced making it more comfortable to use and easier to pack while traveling. I like that it doesn’t have a rechargeable battery so that’s one less thing to worry about. It comes with a stand that sticks to most smooth surfaces as well as a brush head cover. Quip offers a subscription service that sends replacement heads and batteries on a regular schedule for $5 which seems reasonable; you can also add a tube of toothpaste for another $5. I sometimes tended to use my old brush heads for far too long as I just didn’t remember to replace them. Having them come automatically should be an easy way to jar the brain and fix that problem. The timed pauses in the sonic pulses help remind you to maintain proper brushing time in the four quadrants of the mouth to make sure each area gets the attention it deserves. The big downsides I’ve noticed are that the sonic vibrations aren’t nearly as strong as my old toothbrush which makes me sometimes feel as though my teeth aren’t getting completely clean. It sometimes just feels like a vibrating manual toothbrush. There also isn’t a pressure sensor or anything to let you know if you are using too much pressure and potentially harming the enamel on your teeth. While I really like the design and feel of the toothbrush itself, the seeming lack of cleaning power gives me pause, especially considering the offerings of other companies in this space.

App is disappointing. For all the flashy packaging this thing has, they could not design an app which functions as well as they advertise. Also, if you decide 2 mins wasn't enough, and start again, it logs it as a second session. Points system is jank. Cool concept, bad execution.

I have one of the legacy big name electric toothbrushes that just isn't the greatest for travel and takes up a significant amount of counter space and a precious bathroom outlet. My kids had one of the original Quip brushes for kids, and when this one came out I thought the bluetooth may help gain some discipline on brushing during times of COVID. It has. I've gone from forgetting to brush my teeth or at least delaying until an embarrassing hour in the day to being nagged (pleasantly) to brush at an earlier hour. Hopefully, this is one of those things that becomes more second nature and all the electronic nannies do their magic and I won't need reminders in the future, it just knows if you've done it and won't bother you at all. Neat use of IoT. Didn't think about it until it was offered by Quip, and I'm happy to see the results.

The Quip toothbrush is an affordable smart electric toothbrush that does what it says it will do, with no extra costly frills. This connected toothbrush features vibration reminders, which help you focus consistent time on each quadrant of your teeth. It also connects to the app, which allows you to monitor your brushing habits (or more importantly, your children's brushing habits). It also features an affordable subscription program to get replacement brush heads and batteries. The app actually includes rewards for consistent brushing, which can be redeemed for discounts on refills from the subscription program. I love this brush because it doesn't take up much cabinet space (especially if you use the brush holder that mounts to your mirror or medicine cabinet), which also makes it very easy to travel with.

Tech-Wise Upgrade from a Regular Toothbrush

The Quip - Smart Electric Toothbrush is difficult to review. Why? Because a lot of the value lies in what you are - or are not - looking for in this kind of product. So here are my observations. • There are units that are more powerful and feel more effective. But they tend to be bulky. I like the small, simple form factor and sleek mounting holder of the Quip. • The app works fine - once it's set up and working. I could not get the brush to pair with the app initially. Contacted support and was told they had a backlog of emails to answer. Then was asked for the serial number of the unit - which you can't get except via the app - which I could not access. Did not hear back. Finally, I just re-installed the app on my iPhone and it worked immediately! The app is basic, but the 'gamification' feature motivated me to brush for the whole 2 minutes. It tracks your uses, brush-strokes, and intensity - which is useful if you're curious about that. • I like the style of the unit. However, the 'power brushing' is simply a vibrating toothbrush. I'm not really sure whether or not I would recommend this to a friend, but will give it a qualified 'yes'. It really depends on what you're looking for and what your goals are. Either way, it is a tech-wise upgrade from a normal toothbrushing regimen.

Toothbrush only connects to your phone through the app. You cannot connect it in the bluetooth settings but it does it quickly and easily in the app. You don't have to have the app open when you brush your teeth in order to save your brushes. It will download them the next time you open the app. You can only obtain 3 points a day for your freebies. A new brush head or a $5 target card takes 450 points. App records the following: Duration, Coverage, Strokes and Intensity. While brushing it gives you a slight pause in vibration to let you know you have reached 30 seconds and will only go for 2 minutes. Brush feels better than most I have used.

Good Value for an Electric Toothbrush

This is a great value for an electric toothbrush. The app was easy to install and use. It also provides a lot of useful information about how to brush my teeth that I didn't know. You also get points each time you brush your teeth that you can use towards purchases. $5 for a replacement brush is a pretty good deal also. But I noticed that you have to order the replacements directly from Quip, I didn't see it available anywhere else. It also looks pretty cool in my bathroom. All of the other electric toothbrushes will have to lower their price point to compete with Quip.

Great toothbrush with a few issues

I got the black metal version of the Quip smart toothbrush. Overall it is a great product. The toothbrush is well made, balanced, and feels good in the hand. It's overall length is about perfect. I like the size of the brush head as it isn't too big, but neither is it too small. The initial setup was quite simple. The enclosed instructions walk you through a process that takes about 3 minutes, which includes the time it takes to download the app and install it, and pair it with your phone. The included instructions are brief (THANK YOU!) and easy to follow. The app is great for prompting users to brush their teeth for the recommended minimum time, and "rewards" users with points for brushing longer than the recommended two minutes. You earn one point per brushing session, and can earn a free brush replacement once you accumulate enough points. What is really great is that you don't have to actually open the app each time you brush...it automatically syncs with your phone and transfers all your brushing data directly to the app. The app itself shows the last time you brushed, how long, the coverage, strokes, and intensity. It also tracks other brushing data over the long run. Overall this is a very good electric toothbrush, and I would gladly recommend it to my friends, family members, and anyone else looking to buy a very good quality electric toothbrush. PROS: The sleek design Relatively low cost of the brush and refills The high quality of the brush is quite evident. The app helps to make brushing teeth more interesting, and allows users to track their progress. CONS The available method of attaching the toothbrush holder to a selected location was not well thought out. It involves unwrapping sticky tape on the toothbrush holder, and then sticking it wherever you might want to stick it, like the wall. This might be okay for a kids' bathroom, but I'm not about to stick double-sided tape on my bathroom wall. For one, it looks tacky. The vibration intensity of the brush isn't what I expected. It seems "weak." It could very well be it is designed that way, but I am basing my opinion on the strength of other electric brushed I have purchased in the past. The difficulty of removing the brush head...wow. It was a battle, but I finally managed to get it off. Like I said, overall this is a very good toothbrush. The few issues I mentioned kept me from rating it at five stars, but as far as I'm concerned, it is better than just about any other brush on the market. If you are looking for a great electric toothbrush, this is the brand to buy!

Descent brush with some great ideas

The idea behind this toothbrush was great and well intentioned. I love that my phone tracks my brushing habits and that brush has a timer to let me know when to change zones in my mouth. The replacement program will be used to make sure that I keep the brush fresh and the batteries fresh. The company is on the right path to having a great offering. The main things that caused me to not rate it at the top were the size of the brush, the shape of the brush, the overall feel and the fact that my updates to the firmware failed after multiple attempts. The updates likely were not important as things worked well without the updates. If I had a larger brush, I would have liked it better. This is likely a minor detail to most and a matter of preference. My teeth felt good and clean after using it. I found that I actually brush more than what the timer allowed, but I’m sure that this follows recommended times.
