I was hoping for more of this toothbrush. It’s good but $60 is a lot for what it does. Like I said it’s good but you can get something better for $60

This is an interesting toothbrush in that it A) is Bluetooth enabled and B) rewards you for brushing your teeth. As if brushing your teeth for health reasons wasn’t enough for you, with the Quip toothbrush, you actually earn points for consistently brushing your teeth.
When you pair this toothbrush with your phone, you actually get metrics on things like how often you brush, the intensity you’re brushing, how long you’re brushing, etc. Based on these actions, you’re awarded points which you can then redeem for things like replacement brush heads, toothpaste, etc. If you brush consistently, in one week, you’d accumulate 26 points. Replacement brush heads are 450 points. Seems like a lot however, with consistent use, you’ll probably get there in no time.
As for the performance, this is no Oral-B or Philips electric toothbrush. The Quip is a vibrating toothbrush so the brush head doesn’t rotate or move like with the Philips/Oral-B. I own a Philips and it’s quite powerful and does a great job of cleaning. The Quip is right there with the “disposable” powered toothbrushes you see out there. This toothbrush runs on a single AAA battery so it’s limited in terms of power compared to higher end ones. This isn’t a fair comparison but just wanted to give you an idea of where the Quip stands in terms of power.
This toothbrush would work REALLY great as a travel toothbrush which is what I intend on using it for. It’s super light and slim and doesn’t take up nearly as much room as a Philips/Oral-B toothbrush does. It’s battery powered so no need to charge or bring a charger with you when traveling.
My only concern with this is that it’s battery operated. I’ve used battery operated toothbrushes before and they always had an issue where moisture/water would seep into the battery compartment and ruin the toothbrush. There is a small rubber O-ring protecting the batter compartment however it’s quite flimsy and can be easily removed when you change out brush heads/battery.
Overall, it’s a bit pricey compared to your typical manual brush you get at a drug store but, thinking long term, this Quip could grow on you. With the brushing metrics you get from the mobile app as well as the scheduled deliveries of accessories, you’re pretty much set with this thing. While it’s not as powerful as a higher end toothbrush, this one does the trick.

Other reviews have discussed the difference between this smaller and “gentler” toothbrush compared to the larger and more aggressive sonic models.
I found the Quip concept to be very interesting and see this as a good way to get the kids to brush on a regular basis as they can “check the app” to see how their brushing is coming along and get daily brushing reminders. That’s the modern world, I guess, where we can ask the kids to “check their app” and one less thing to have to remind them.
I guess there are two camps on the effectiveness of this design. There are those that have the classic sonic brushes who correctly say that the Quip is not as aggressive – and clearly this is so. Others that are using the classic standard move-it-with-your-hand toothbrush find the Quip to be light, easy to manage, or more user-friendly in many ways that the larger sonic brushes. No question that the Quip is superior to hand-brushing and I would consider it more of an “enhanced” hand-brushing as you are going to be moving it around in a more traditional way than with the larger sonic devices.
To me, this is a good size for younger folks, and is modern and personalized with the included app. If you are used to the heavier and more aggressive sonic brushes, you may not feel like the Quip is aggressive enough for you >> I can recall having to get used to the more aggressive sonic device over a period of several weeks.
The Quip is more convenient, and easier to handle and use, especially for younger folks. If it encourages more frequent and more thorough brushing, that is definitely a good reason to choose the Quip.
One of the best features of the Quip is the app, and I have mentioned that this is appealing to the young folks and may encourage better brushing habits. The app as it is today does not appear to be a “finished product” and most customer reviews on the GPlay site are problems with pairing and performance. This is a significant concern and hopefully will be resolved in the very near future! At this time I cannot "recommend this to a friend" due to the problems with the app - which is the main feature of the toothbrush (in my opinion).

The Quip Smart Electric Toothbrush is a simple, effective little toothbrush that adds a little gamification to remembering to brush.
If you've never had a Quip brush you should know that the hardware design here is excellent. There's a head of soft, full-sized bristles mixed with even softer silicon bristles that massage gums. The handle of the brush is a straight tube of soft-feel plastic with a rounded end, and the whole thing looks and feels sturdy and minimalist. The brush comes apart at a joint just past the neck of the brush head, revealing the Bluetooth motor assembly and battery. The battery and head are meant to be discarded and replaced every three months, and Quip offers a subscription service that will send you replacements for $5 a pop. To be honest, I think I'll use rechargeable batteries I already have to reduce waste and purchase a set of brush heads so I have them available when it's time for a change.
The motor spins at a very nice rate providing an excellent clean feeling after a brushing session. The silicon parts of the brush head feel very nice rubbing against the gums. After you press the power button, the motor runs for two minutes with gentle vibrating indications to switch quadrants every 30 seconds. Basically, it's an sonic electric toothbrush, and it works fine.
The thing that sets the toothbrush apart is its tracking and gamification features. The brush connects to your phone via Bluetooth and the Quip app records your brushing sessions. You get a point for each time you brush, and a bonus point if you brush twice a day. Build up enough points and you can earn discounts on purchases from Quip and its partners.
I had a good deal of trouble setting up the brush through the Android app for the first time. First, the brush took a couple tries to pair with the phone, then when it did, it asked me to sign up for a Quip account, which took place on a web portal. I used Google's suggested strong password to create the account, but when I returned to the app to finish the setup, it didn't recognize the app as identical to the website. This meant I had to go into my saved passwords, find the new strong password and copy it, return to the app and complete the login process. Once during this process, I accidentally logged out of the app, which caused it to forget the paired brush and require pairing once more. I understand this was a brand new app when I used it—version 1.0, in fact, and I hope Quip gets their act together with a simpler sign-up and sign-in process in the near future.
All-in-all, I think this may be a good solution to remembering to brush twice a day, every day, if I can convince myself that future Quip discounts are worth it. I understand the app is also supposed to allow me to track my children's usage of any Quip Smart brushes I purchase for them. This is a canny move on Quip's part to get your whole family to buy into the ecosystem. I only hope the rewards for the kiddos something more attuned to their tastes than discounts on Quip accessories.

When it comes to electric toothbrushes there seems to be two categories, the ones that are super loud but clean really well and the ones that are super quiet but you might as well just be using a manual toothbrush. The quip pleasantly falls somewhere in the middle, it’s not super loud and it feels like your getting a better cleaning than with just a manual toothbrush alone. It’s also nice that replacement toothbrush heads won’t break the bank and there are no cables or cords to clutter anything up. They even include a nice holder that will stick to any smooth flat surface like a mirror so it keeps the toothbrush up off the counter and out of the way. There is also the added bonus of the Bluetooth app that helps to keep track of your brushing habits, like how long you brush top and bottom so that you can make sure your getting both evenly. Overall the toothbrush works great. The brush head is also comfortable which is nice too. Overall the toothbrush seems like a solid choice if your looking to improve your brushing habits but also not break the bank.

This is a really cool step away from the electric toothbrushes that are expensive and can be pretty aggressive in their cleaning. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with those options because there are a lot of people who want that and those brushes have some neat features not found here. However, if you're looking for a great looking electric brush that gets the job done and isn't bulky or overpowering, this is it.
The app that it pairs with is easy to use and it tracks your history of brushing and rewards you with points for hitting 2min, keeping a streak going, etc. You can use those points for things like gift cards or redeem them for your next brush head replacement. Speaking of that, Quip has a cool program where you sign up and every 3 months they automatically ship you a new brush head and AAA battery. It costs $5+tax every 3 months but shipping is free and the first refill you get is free. This is great because you should be changing out your brush regularly and this takes the guesswork out of it and keeps your brushing experience at the level it should be. Also, considering what most toothbrushes and batteries cost, $5 every 3 months isn't bad. That part is totally optional but I highly recommend setting it up if you're enjoying the brush.
The brush came in the box with an instruction booklet (seems rare to get these with electronics anymore). The brush itself was nicely packaged inside a tube with a sticker to ensure it hadn't been tampered with. There is a small holder that comes with the brush. It's barely bigger around than the base. It has a sticky side on the back so it can be attached to a mirror in your bathroom. It says you can stick and unstick it, but I don't know how many times that will last before the sticky wears out. This also doubles as a travel cover for the brush head which is a cool and minimalistic approach.
The brush does a great job cleaning your teeth. It's definitely effective and it does a vibration to tell you to move on to the next part of your mouth so you don't spend too long or too little time in one area. Overall, I'd say the performance is better than a manual brush and most of the cheap-o battery powered brushes, but a step below the most powerful and expensive options out there. The brush is light-weight, feels great in hand and the handle isn't large or bulky. There are no options at the moment for brush heads that are Stiff or Extra Soft or Whitening or any of that. It's a Medium brush head with some soft rubber teeth around the edge to help along the gum line. This will be fine for most people especially once you learn the right pressure to apply, with the help of the brush and the app.
Also, being the most powerful with the most brush head options really isn't really the point of Quip. You can have the most powerful toothbrush on Earth and not use it regularly or only once a day, and it's not helping you. Quip is designed to make it easy and fun to brush and reward you for doing it to establish a healthy routine. I think it's great for anyone, but it would probably be really great for parents who are trying to get their kids to brush regularly. Just think how much effort they'll put in if they know they'll be able to earn a gift card to their favorite store! Also, the parents can track their brushing via the app and make sure they're doing it correctly.
Overall, I highly recommend this brush to anyone, but I think it would be ideal for kids, teens and young adults to help them establish a routine and to make sure they're getting a new brush head regularly without having to think about it. The app is great and makes it fun to brush and the rewards are a nice perk.
