I was a big fan of the original RAGE. I know expectations for it were huge, and it didn't meet those expectations for a lot of people, but it was a really fun, well-made id shooter with great-feeling shooting mechanics. Id handed the reins over to Avalanche (the Just Cause franchise), and it's in good hands. Avalanche carries over a lot of the feel, atmosphere, and characters of the last game. The biggest addition here is a fully realized open world. Like most open-world shooters, it feels a lot like Far Cry - things to loot, bases to overtake, areas to explore - with a decent story moving the campaign along. The main story is relatively shorty, but the depth of the story has never been Avalanche's focus. RAGE 2's focus is primarily on the amazing shooting mechanics and the fast-paced, crazy, speed-injected action. It plays like an old-school shooter but looks like a new-school one, and it's a great contrast.
