Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the BlackWidow Chroma Keyboard's high-quality build, vibrant lighting options, and extensive customization features. Many appreciate the satisfying key feel, although some find the clicky keys a bit loud. While the software is praised for its ease of use, the relatively high price point is a common concern among buyers.

Razer BWC - Great Keyboard w/ Room for Improvement

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

(Background Information - I have owned this keyboard for ~1 month) When I first chose to purchase my first mechanical keyboard, I was stuck between two keyboards: the Razer Blackwidow Chroma and the Corsair RGB Keyboard. After extensive research online and outweighing the pros and cons of each keyboard, I decided to go with the Blackwidow Chroma and, in my mind, I feel that I made the right decision. This keyboard blew my expectations out of the water with its super vibrant colors and feel of the key switch (Razer Green Switch/Clicky). However, even with the amazing features it brings, I do feel that there is still room for improvement, and if these improvements are taken into consideration, it might possibly be the best mechanical keyboard on the market. Pros: [+] RGB Colors Razer did something that, although seems like a minor detail, really makes the keyboard colors POP, and that is the whiteboard underneath the keys switches. By having this whiteboard, the colors seem much brighter and much more vibrant than any other back-lit keyboard I've seen. Not to mention the color accuracy of the LEDs that Razer put in the keyboard. Superb job by the Razer team on the RGB colors on the keyboard! [+] Media Input This feature was one of the big deal breakers that set the Razer Blackwidow Chroma apart from any other keyboard in its class, and that is the media input I/O on the side of the keyboard. Owning a desktop computer, it is extremely tough to reach the media I/O's on the back of the computer since my computer is quite far away from the desk itself, making it so that I have to stretch my headphone wire all the way to the computer making it quite uncomfortable to listen to music. Being able to just plug in my headphones to the side of the keyboard makes a world of difference. [+] Synapse 2.0 (Pros) Razer's software for the keyboard, well, is more a double edged sword. The software seamlessly ties together all of your Razer products, which was essential to me since I own a Razer Naga. The software itself makes it quite easy for someone who might not be so go at computers to easily change the lighting of their keyboard. You can also easily change the layout of the keys to pretty much do whatever you want such as: open a program, initiate a macro, play music, etc. I have definitely taken advantage of this feature. But, as I said before, the software is like a double edged sword, which I will get to in the cons, [+] The Switches (Pros) Much like the software, the switches have its share of pros and cons, however the cons will come later in the raview. The switches that I chose (Clicky) provide for a very nice gaming and typing experience, and gives a nice satisfactory *click*, which comes to expect from Razer. Also, according to Razer, the new switches provide much more durability, allowing the keyboard to last much longer. [+] 5 Macro Keys The Blackwidow Chroma comes with 5 macro keys on the side of the keyboard, which you can program to do anything you want. For instance, I use my 5 macro keys to switch between my profiles for the keyboard. Theses macros are quite helpful and can be easily program within Synapse. [+] Overall Durability The keyboard overall seems quite solid and appears that it will last me a few years. The cord is braided, which provides protections to the wires and the keyboard chassis, although plastic, still seems solid and durable. Cons: [-] The Switches (Cons) Razer's switches are nice, as I said in the pros, however I wish that Razer could provide more selection when it comes to key switches. As of writing this, Razer has two switches: the green switches (Clicky) and the orange switches (stealth). Because I absolutely hate linear key switches, there was no other choice than to go with the clicky version. The clicky version provides a nice click when you type, but can be extremely obnoxious when video chatting with others and having friends come over. I wish Razer could provide 2 more switches to add more variety. For instance, I was looking at the Corsair RGB keyboard because it offered Cherry MX Brown switches, which are the quieter version to the MX Blue Switches (or, in Razer terms, the green switches). If Razer could provide two more switches that are comparable to the MX Brown and MX Black switches, that would appeal to a lot more people. [-] Synapse 2.0 (Cons) As I mentioned before, Synapse 2.0 is a great software for people who don't want to get messy inside a software in order to do what they want with their keyboard, however, for those who want to get the most out of their keyboard, the software just is not advances enough. I think that Razer could have easily implemented an advanced tab inside Synapse 2.0 for those who want to get more advanced lighting out of their keyboard. [-] No On-board Memory The fact that the Blackwidow does not offer on-board memory can be a deal breaker for some. Some people want to just set their preferences, take it to their friend's house, plug it in, and it will automatically have the preferences that it had before without having to download Synapse and sign-in. I've also found that, on occasion, Synapse will delete my profiles for my keyboard (and mouse), which can be quite obnoxious. Overall, the Razer Blackwidow Chroma is a great keyboard and offers some features that no other keyboard has. There are some features I feel that Razer could have implemented to make this keyboard better, but in the grand scheme of things, the Blackwidow Chroma is a keyboard like no other, which is why I have given the keyboard 4/5 stars.

I owned the green-only version of this keyboard when it came out a little bit ago. When I saw that they made an identical version that I can set to any color (thus satisfying my OCD) I immediately jumped at the chance to own it. It performs exactly the same and is a great mechanical keyboard. The configuration software maybe isn't as robust as some out there when it comes to actual lighting patterns and options, but it's pretty close and extremely easy to use. I'm super happy with my purchase!

I bought this after I broke the space-bar on my BlackWidow and I'd say it's been a great replacement! This keyboard is a bit on the pricey side, but if that doesn't bother you too much I'd definitely recommend it. I was a little nervous about the green switches, but after using them for a few hours I really grew to like them. I was a bit surprised to see that the lighting reacted with Overwatch a bit, I don't normally care for lights on keyboards but I'll admit the effects are pretty cool. I do my best to avoid Synapse (Razer's software for managing your peripherals) like the plague, but I figured I'd let it install this time so I could play with the lighting effects. After installing Synapse it promptly screwed up my mouse sensitivity and even uninstalling it didn't fix it (I also have a Razer mouse, it wouldn't happen if you didn't own one).. I guess it's not a big deal if you already use Synapse, but it turned into a real headache for me so I'm knocking off a star.

I purchased this keyboard about a 3 weeks ago and wanted to give it some test runs in several different areas before I wrote a review. Pros: - Software is extremely easy to use - 16.8 Million colors are really gorgeous on this keyboard. - Keys feel fantastic and sound fantastic - Extra USB port on the side is a nice bonus feature as well - Heavy and sturdy. Feels like a very high quality keyboard. Cons: - As much as I love the key sound, it can be loud and might bother a person you share space with - Software (Synapse 2.0)is slightly limited in what you can do with all your colors but I've heard this will change in the future - Coating on the keyboard is not very forgiving. Don't sneeze on this keyboard. Or have greasy fingers. - The wave effect goes way too fast and it cannot be slowed down at this time. I can't play games with this effect on because it messes with my eyes. With the few minor flaws, I give The Blackwidow Chroma 4 well deserved stars. Needs some tweaking in the software but otherwise a GREAT device from Razer.

Absolutely love this keyboard. My girlfriend got it for me as a gift, along with my new gaming PC. It comes with alot of features and settings for the keyboard. Key's feel really nice, and have a good click to them. It's also pretty cool that i'm able to change the LED to match the one on my PC. Only con is that the keys are really clicky, but this is a mechanical keyboard after all.

After much debate I decided to purchase the Razer BlackWidow Chroma after using just a standard Keyboard for Gaming. Between this and the comparable Logitech Keyboard, I like this one a lot better. The keys are light, yet nice and clicky, which I like. Plus you can have infinite color combinations using the included Razer software. 10/10 I would recommend to a friend.

    Good Board/Good Options

Board is solid with great feel to the keys. The options to change the color scheme using Razer's software (not included, must be downloaded) is great and the ability to switch from different profiles is a plus. Side usb, mic, and headphones port is great. No more playing with the back of the desktop as the front only had headphone jack. Only gripe I have is the placement feels off. I tend to type I bit over to the left instead of right on so it takes a minute to get my bearings. They could do better with making the letters a bit more readable for other people who happen to hop on the computer.

I own the Mamba TE mouse and the Firefly Mousepad(which are both part of Razer's Chroma series), so when purchasing a keyboard I went with the Razer Blackwidow Chroma(green switch) to stay in the same product line. Its amazing across the board for gaming. MMO, RPG, FPS, you name it. Physically you have beautiful customization options, and as I mentioned I've stayed in the Chroma line recently, everything matches well and I sync the color styles. Before making a purchase, OF COURSE do your research. What works for me may not for you. Razer offers a wide variety of styles in each product so I can guarantee you will find something you not only like but LOVE!. Also, Best Buy offers for $20 a warranty plan that if ANYTTHING happens, even if I bring them my board in a bajillion pieces they will replace it free.

    Gamer keyboard at its finest!

I've finally decided to upgrade my regular Microsoft keyboard to a gaming keyboard! I've been wanting to get a razer keyboard since i have a razer naga mouse. So i decided to buy the black widow chroma and i actually love this keyboard from the very moment i opened the box! The slick look that the matrix looking font the keys have is a total eye catcher, not to mention the RGB effect which offers 16M color to customize your keys. The best thing i like about this keyboard is that you can program the keys to any color you want. For me, switching from one keyboard to another takes time of getting used to (hand positioning / feels). But since i can customize the color of my keys through razer synapse, I have set my keys, Q W E R to a color i desire to keep track of my hand/finger placement. I play multiple online games and you can preset your macro keys that best suites the game you are playing. I love this keyboard so much and would recommend it to any gamer out there!

Girlfriend got me this keyboard for Christmas and I loved the look of it instantly, feels just like the Razer blackwidow normal keyboard but the color options are amazing. If you've ever used a Razer product before this keyboard gives just as high quality as any of there other products.

The Black Widow Chroma is quite a beautiful keyboard. You can set what colors you would like the keys to light up, and even add special effects! There's 5 macro keys which you can set, and you can easily alter any of the keys using the Razer's Synapse Program. They even have a slot for headphones and a mouse! I do wish I got the stealth edition because it can be a little loud when typing a lot. However, I'm so glad that I ordered the Black Widow Chroma.

This keyboard has such beautiful colors and it's my first mechanical keyboard. I really like the feel of it. The buttons respond really quick to what you want. The only con is It's a little big but it's probably because of the 5 extra M keys on the left side. It's a bit heavy, but who constantly lifts their keyboard? All around I'm really happy with it and have fun with the different color patterns you can download.
