Customers are impressed with the BlackWidow Chroma Keyboard's high-quality build, vibrant lighting options, and extensive customization features. Many appreciate the satisfying key feel, although some find the clicky keys a bit loud. While the software is praised for its ease of use, the relatively high price point is a common concern among buyers.

This keyboard is perfect for gaming and online play. Many options for customizations and layout changes. Sturdy hardware to ensure it doesn't break. Separate easy access macro keys for mmo gaming. Overall best keyboard money can buy.

Positives:
Overall it's solid, with a good design and colorful illumination. Typing performance is above average, gaming performance is excellent and the keys have a good feel. Software is good and easy to use, if not a little thin on features.
Negatives:
Expensive. No dedicated media keys or volume control. A $160 keyboard with no keycap removal tool? Seriously? Did I mention it was expensive?
Conclusion:
A really solid keyboard that should last a long time, with excellent gaming performance. For the price, it shouldn't lack in any features, but it does. My Azio MGK-1 performs just as well. It doesn't have the software, but hard wired options. It comes with dedicated volume control and even comes with a keycap removal tool - while it costs about $70 less.
The Razer is an excellent keyboard, but it misses a couple of things and from a value standpoint, there are better options.

If your like me I love the "old school" sound of a "Real" keyboard and this one will not let you down. It programmable LED's look amazing and the keys feel strong. The sound is like no other, many times I have to mute a conference call because of how loud they are. If you have never typed on a board like this you are missing out and need to try one in store ASAP.

The mechanical keys from Razer rival Cherry easily. There is a satisfying click when pressing each key and the response time is fantastic. The chroma backlight is lovely to view and very nice on the eyes. The featured macro keys make repetitive motions easy to handle for either gaming or general use. The full numberpad is what made me choose this over the tournament version. I wish the function key was on the lower left like most keyboards, but it is easy to get used to. very satisfied with the purchase.

I always liked this keyboard at Best Buy whenever I would see it. Finally my old keyboard bit the dust so I decided to buy one. After looking at reviews, I made my choice. I have to say, this keyboard has surpassed my wildest expectations! The light functions alone are impressive (how much you can customize it). In addition to that, you can download different light patterns that other people have made (from the Razer website). The programmable keys on the left side are really handy as well. As a Teaching Assistant at Oklahoma State University, I have used these features to help my grading go faster.

With 5 macro keys and Razers green switches (which are pretty much mx blues) this keyboard is a dream to type on and game on. The LED lights allow for great designs and effects that enhance your experience.

This is a great keyboard with so many options. However, before I comment on any of those, I need to start off with the fact that this is a noisy keyboard (it's mechanical, so most of them are bound to be). Apparently, people like that (I don't mind it, it lets me know that I'm typing if I'm not looking at the screen or keys). I would have given it a 4.5 if that was an option and the 0.5 deduction would be for the surprise noise (again, I have grown used to it).
Anyway, you can change the key bindings of all of the keys (so essentially you can re-arrange your keyboard). Additionally, you can set certain keys to be macros (or strings of other keystrokes) to make it much easier to do repetitive things (and there is a quick record macro function to simplify this). The lights and effects are pretty cool. You can customize them a million different ways (or it comes with a few presets to use). By the way, this is definitely a huge plus if you end up typing in the dark.
In a nutshell, I am happy with this keyboard and would recommend it. However, it is fairly pricy. So, if you aren't really excited to be able to control the colors of your keys or set up different key functions, then you probably want to look at other keyboards first (unless you're just crazy wealthy).

Pros:
- Fast
- Wonderful Mech. Switches
- Amazing customization
- Beautiful Aesthetics
- Loud key clicks
Cons:
- Price
- Bulky Software
- Caps/Num Lock indicator lights dim/undecipherable
- Loud key clicks
So i purchased this keyboard to replace my much loved, and worn out, IBM/Lenovo Mechanical keyboard. If you gather from that, i like mechanical keyboards. They keystrokes on this new Razer unit are wonderful. I nice mechanical click, that once i get going on an excel spreadsheet, sound like rapid fire from an M16. The performance is unrivaled in games with no missed keystrokes. Also, while the Razer Synapse software is a little bulky, the amount of customization for the back lighting is unbelievable. I have multiple profiles that i can change on the fly for work/daily use, and for different games that actually highlight different individual keys of the board in different colour patterns. It gives me that slight edge in game play, and looks awesome to boot. The caps Lock and Num lock indicator lights are very hard to see, however, and i do hjave a weird issue with my desk where the rear feet collapse if i try to slide the board farther away from me (so i have to lift it off the desk to move it). I think that just has to do with the soft touch plastic material used and how well it grips my raw wood surface desk. Overall this is worth the high cost, and the look and materials look equally good at home, or a high end work/office environment. Sometimes the fiance complains about how loud it is, so if you want to use it in a shared space or office, look into the "stealth" version, i however love it, and just close my office door when she complains ;).

Good hardware, software could use improvements

So far so good on the hardware side of things - I like the feel of the keys (for both typing and gaming) and the aesthetics, fit and finish of the board. The big caveats, though, are that your preferences may be different and it's only been a couple of months, so durability is still an unknown.
The biggest room for improvement, I think, is on the lighting configurator side of things. At present, there are only 6 lighting configurations to choose from (one of which is the 'Custom' option). I would love to see more fine-grained controls for some of these options and more interplay (for lack of a better word) between these options, as well. For instance, a simple but drastic improvement to the 'Wave' option would be to let the user alter the wave speed - at present (software ver 1.18), you can only alter the wave direction and brightness while the wave rushes on at a breakneck and headache-inducing (IMO) pace. Another example that I'd like to see implemented would be a combination of effects. For example, I'd like to see the 'Reactive' or 'Breathing' options usable in conjunction with a custom key colors (with the 'Custom' option, you can dictate individual key color, but beyond that, you can only adjust brightness; 'Reactive' lets you select one color, 'Breathing' lets you select one color plus an optional base color).
Criticisms of the relative inflexibility of the lighting schemes aside, it functions pretty well for now and I am optimistic about the prospects of improvement. Razer has released an API, so we may see creative stuff from 3rd parties and individuals, and Razer themselves have made some small tweaks to the customization options in the two months it's been in the wild. Much better to have the software, rather than the hardware, be a work in progress.

This mechanical keyboard is awesome. I've owned several of the older Blackwidow Keyboards and have stuck with them because of their excellent feel / build quality. I opted for this one for the Chroma color editing. I would recommend this keyboard over the Corsair, as the Razer Synapse Software is so much easier to set lighting schemes / macros!

When purchasing this keyboard I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive because of issues with Razer headsets in the past and mostly only using Logitech products but I have been pleasantly surprised. The BlackWidow Chroma has met and exceeded my expectations by far. The keys are very stable and feel solid when typing and gaming. Being able to set the LED colors for each game I'm in has been really cool and has definitely added to my overall satisfaction. I am an avid gamer and stream on Twitch, so having quality gear is really important to me and did quite a bit of research prior to this purchase. This is also the first mechanical keyboard I've owned and though the sound of the keys seemed to be a bit on the loud side at first, which I thought my audience would be distracted by... Though they actually like the sound of the keys and as a few have said, gives them a sense of interaction and a talking point about mechanical keyboards with others and myself in the stream. I also have to thank the sales associate who talked me into this model as I've seen many negative things about the original product I was considering. The Synapse software is easy to use and really makes the experience great to me and would definitely recommend this keyboard to someone just looking at getting into a mechanical keyboard or even an experienced gamer who wants to take a step up or try a different product.
