Great solution

I wasn't told I need this and don't know if works

The test page said noise and I've never had this problem before. I was told I needed one of these. Had to go back to store. It still got same error. Person at tech support send a fax and it worked. So it's unclear whether I actually need it for the fax to work but kept to be on the safe side. Was not informed when I bought that I would need this. Had to make 3 separate trips for my new fax purchase.
