The Rode VideoMic Go II is a good budget mic for video and can be used for podcasting. I like how the mic does not use batteries to be powered. I don’t need to charge it or keep batteries on hand. Great on the go mic for your camera. It’s compact and easily attaches to your cold shoe. It also comes with a windscreen. My issue is that it’s not a great shotgun mic because once you get more than 12 inches away, the volume decreases dramatically. It also doesn’t have any setting controls on the mic itself so any setting have to be done via camera or the rode central app if using phone or computer. I also wish it came with a deadcat when I use it outdoors. Overall, it’s an upgrade if you don’t have a mic for your camera and most adjustments can be made in post if desired.

I fell in love with this microphone it sounds great it is super easy to use and it didn’t break the bank. I’ve been using this microphone for over a month now and it hasn’t disappointed me yet. The sound quality is a leg up from using the built in camera microphone. That elevated my videos immediately. Connecting through a headphone jack just a quick plug and play situation.

This is a solid microphone for its price point, delivering impressive performance. I purchased it in May 2025 and have primarily used it for vocal recording, where it performs very well. It also works effectively for capturing foley when connected to a laptop, as well as for ambient sound recording. One of its key advantages is its passive design, meaning it does not require phantom power—it’s truly plug-and-play. On the downside, the microphone has fixed gain, so level adjustments must be made through the camera or recording device. Additionally, vocal clarity begins to noticeably degrade beyond approximately 5 feet.

I love this mic, it is great for the price, it’s the budget version of their on cam NTG shotgun mic but more affordable. It’s light weight and captures sound amazingly. Perfect for beginner videographers.

This microphone is compact, lightweight, and easy to use with my camera. It delivers clear, natural audio and does a good job of focusing on the sound in front of the camera. The shock mount also helps reduce handling noise. It is a convenient upgrade over the camera’s built-in microphone and works well for everyday video recording.

great little microphone that doesn't require a battery. It picks up a lot of sound so be sure to adjust your audio settings correctly and learn how to edit audio. overall, this is much better than the cameras built in microphone and worth the price for starting out. When you learn more about audio then you will find more expensive microphones do have value, but for learning purposes and general use nonprofessional, this is a great mic.

Plugged into iPhone 16 Pro, downloaded app, and began recording interview videos with strong audio sound.

I used this directly connected to my Lumix G85 and the audio comes out perfect. It's very compact and fits in my camera bag wth everything in it.

I have been using this microphone to record audio on soccer games and birding in my backyard. The USB input into my phone and later synching in post has given me great audio for $100.

I’m no expert, but this mic gets it done. The RØDE VideoMic GO II works great on my FX3 and is a huge upgrade over any internal mic. It picks up clean, clear audio, stays light on the camera, and never feels like a burden to carry around. For something this small, the sound quality is way better than I expected.
