I really only saw this movie because a friend worked on digital effects. It was better than I expected and enjoyed the kid in the movie.

This is a halfway decent flick for families. May not appeal too much to the females, but the guys should enjoy it.

Bought this movie with the goal of watching it, eventually. When I finally did open the DVD case, it was empty! It wasn't expensive but it was more than I would have liked to pay for an empty box.

    Iron Man meets The Fighter

In a world of cage matches and underground brawling, boxing seems sadly tame by comparison. And with ever-increasing technological advances, robot death-matches may be a coming attraction destined for a venue near you. Though probably not in the not-too-distant future depicted in this Hugh Jackman science-fiction movie. It’s 2020 and Charlie Kenton (Jackman) is a boxer whose days in the ring are long-behind him thanks to the emergence of robot boxing. He now controls other fighters (robots) from the sidelines. Unfortunately, he’s had a long run of bad luck and is in serious debt. He’s then hit with the news that the son he never sees was recently orphaned when his mother, and Charlie’s former girlfriend, died. At the custody hearing he sees Max (played by Dakota Goyo), Max’s wealthy Aunt Debra (played by Hope Davis) and her husband Marvin (played by James Rebhorn). Marvin (Rebhorn) tells Charlie that while they want custody and know that he doesn’t, they have plans for the summer and they are willing to pay a six-figure sum if Charlie will care for Max until they return. And at that time he’ll relinquish all claims to Max. Soon Max and Charlie find a robot to replace the one lost in Charlie’s most recent bout and embark on the process of training it and repaying Charlie’s debts. I wasn’t expecting much from this film given the premise and the fact that some of Jackman’s previous films (the X-MEN series and Wolverine follow-up) left me disappointed. I was surprised and very pleased to see this film outshine those in execution and conclusion. Jackman’s role isn’t all that different from ones past but the tone and supporting characters make for an extremely enjoyable two hours and seven minutes.

    Worth Every Penny!

I wanted to see this in the theaters but didn't get to, with even a sale price of $27.99 it was a bit expensive but I was able to use the $5 coupon offered during opening week. That said, if I paid full price for this movie it's worth it. Do you like Rocky? Do you like heart warming stories? Do you like robots? This movie has some cliches but the movie is made so well, story, timing, picture, it all works to make it unique to me. I was rooting for Atom out loud and don't be surprised if you get teary eyed. It's a good movie and I think everyone can enjoy it.

Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots Meets Rocky? It Works!

I'll be honest, I was sold from the beginning. Robots fight and the movie stars wolverine; sold. Turns out, the movie works on so many levels. You have the story of an ex-boxer who is at the low point of his life, an beaten relationship with his deceased trainers daughter, throw in an unknown child from an ex-lover (also deceased) and you get a complex story with characters that bud and develop into something truly inspiring. I don't normally do this, but I was actually begging for a sequel at the end. I think the only down side is that, you may end up wanting to see more robot fights.

Such an awesome surprise! I'm a big fan of the Rocky movies and figured it would be much like that. It was, but much more! Great visual affects, good heart-warming story. A must-have movie if you like action movies.

"Reel Steel" is a very good and well done movie. It is " Rocky" done over again, up to date using robots. I thought the ending was good, too. All around, an excellent movie.
