Cowboys, cattle, trail ride all things men did to provide food for commerce & adventure in a classic John Wayne/Howard’s Hawk’s directed movie. Brilliant cinematography with drama and action a must see western to have.

John Wayne stars in this movie driving a large cattle herd to Missouri with his adopted son played by Montgomery Clift. They meet many obstacles along the way including a possible replay of what happened to Wayne earlier. He has a darker character than previously played.

One of my favorite John Wayne movies is now a part of my Blu Ray collection. The Criterion version has some excellent special features as well as both versions of the movie along with reasons why both were made.

This is one of John Wayne's greatest movies. The picture quality is fantastic. The special features are very good and informative.

This is another great release from Criterion, with so many excellent supplements to go with the movie.

John Wayne at his best in this fabulous flight. Even better in bluray

This is my favorite Western, period, and not just my favorite John Wayne western. I really like Rio Bravo, The Searchers, True Grit, Stagecoach, the Dollars Trilogy (Clint Eastwood), and the list goes on; but this is my favorite. Maybe I am biased towards wagon-train/traveling by wagon adventures and cattle drive movies, though. My favorite John Wayne movies are this and Stagecoach. I just feel like I am back in the old west on a cattle drive watching Red River. The fact that they filmed these old westerns on location really creates a great atmospheric feel. This is a less bombastic and more nuanced (but still powerful) performance by John Wayne, showing that he he could really act if he tried.
